I’ve been to Cocopelli a few times and have enjoyed it each time, but it is handy to know and understand a number of things about the place before venturing in.
Cocopelli is situated at the Palms, stuck between One Bar and the Fox and Ferret – so it can be a little inconspicuous, but this also means if you choose to dine outside that you may be subject to venturing smells and smoke from the other bars. This can be worse if you dine later in the evening and they shut the wind breakers. This essentially encloses the smoking area.
In saying this, during the day, it is a fantastic looking and feeling place to eat and the inside of Cocopelli’s is comfortable, roomy and looks fantastic.
My favourite pizza here would have to the Julius Caser, which is essentially the salad on the pizza. What impresses me is that you can tell the chicken isn’t pre-processed, unnaturally cubed pieces of chicken. Whilst the bacon can make it somewhat greasy for a salad … as a pizza, it’s fantastic.
The staff have always been attentive and happy when I’ve popped in so have not experienced what others here have indicated. But then, perhaps different staff were also on.
The last note I would indicate is that there is a DJ widely advertised as playing on Friday and Saturday nights at Cocopelli’s, so I would recommend either dining early, or being prepared to be kept entertained till the wee hours of the morning.

We went to Cocopelli last night for my birthday seeing the pizza looked amazing in photos and we wanted to try somewhere new.
We ordered the breads and dips to begin with. Photos online showed about 3 different types of bread and we only got 2 but we were ok with that. The white bread was toasted a bit too much and was very chewy and hard to eat.
The waiter came back to take the bread platter away and we ordered our pizzas (V CCB and the XIII Yes, Dear) and a bowl of chips. Our pizza came about 20 minutes after we got our bowl of chips, so we couldn’t enjoy both together like we had wanted. Half the chips were lovely long fluffy and crisp chips, but the other half looked like off cuts and were different shapes.
The pizza was the WORST pizza we have ever had. There was so much oil and grease on the V CCB that it was pooling on the top of the pizza and also running off the pizza board and onto the table. The venison pizza we ordered also had pools of oil on it, but not as much as the other pizza. Not only was the pizza extremely oily, but both of pizza tasted awful! The venison was dry and chewy, and it actually tasted like fish (We eat venison often and we know what it is meant to taste like).
After only eating one piece of my pizza, and my partner eating only half of his. We waited for someone to come and take the pizza away to put it into boxes for us. We were sitting there for 30-50 minutes and not one of the staff working there even glanced our way. There were barely any customers in Cocopelli either as it was a Monday night, so there was no excuse for the very poor service. We walked up to the counter with the pizza and explained that we had been waiting for a very long time and said the meal was pretty average and we explained why. The young man said a very weak ‘sorry’ and we weren’t even offered a discount.
We will not being going back and it was a horrible end to a lovely birthday. I’Morell be sure to warn everyone I know to never go there.

Wasn’t overly impressed with service. The pizza was ok for gourmet. However, it was a very busy night and a live band was due to setup. Wouldn’t recommend a romantic night out. I will go again sometime at a different time to try gain another opinion

Such a great restaurant! This is one of my favourite restaurants in Christchurch. I love going there for dinner or even to share after-work drinks with my mates. The high standard of service is matched with the high quality of food! Outstanding pizzas, beautiful arranged with fresh ingredients, and you can smell them coming from the oven to the table. A relaxing atmosphere with great surroundings. They have a full menu of food – excellent cuisine and cooked to perfection. Would highly recommend – definitely worth driving to from the other side of the city!

What a great restaurant. The menu was creative and well balanced. The service for a pizza style restaurant was excellent with good attention to detail but not obtrusive. I have now dined at this restaurant four time over the last year and have had a consistent high level of food and service on each occasion. well done. I would certainly recommend.
