Cheap and friendly. Sometimes my orders have been mucked up, but they have always been apologetic! Good range of lunch food at very reasonable prices, and a relaxing atmosphere – kinda feels like a friend’s flat than a swanky cafe.

I had been here a number of times and they constantly would get my coffee order wrong, ie not putting sugar in , making it with trim milk instead of full so stopped going.
Thought I’d go the other day and give them one last chance. Again they got my order wrong , no sugar. I also had a blueberry muffin , quite possibly the worst I have ever tasted. Guys try eating your own food – the muffin was like a brick, very doughy and stodgy – disgusting. Won’t be going back again.

A lovely little cafe, very popular with local professionals. Extensive menu of delicious items – the only place I have managed to find chocolate iced custard squares in Wellington city!

The best thing about Colonial Cafe is that it doesn’t try to be up-market or cater for some niche consumer. It’s a classic kiwi-style cafe, the sort Wellington used to have.
