Went with a group for a last minute meal at the taj. Food was good. Byo is always good. Hardly anyone there on a Saturday night which is never a good sign. Only complaint and the reason for the low score is due to the bill settlement. The wait staff themselves were patient and friendly enough.

Had DineIn twice before. Last night I had 4 takeaways from Groupy Vouhure. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Lamb was very tender and spices were perfect up to standards. We will be back with another groupy vouchers.

Twice I bought takeaways. The first time, after waiting 20 minutes, when I went to the counter to get my food, they realized my order was given to somebody else, so more waiting. The second time, when I arrived home I found out they gave me something I didn’t order. The food is average, there are better Indian places around the city and their portions are STINGY!I got three pieces of paneer the size of half my pinky and that was it. Will never come back and wouldn’t recommend it.

I’ve eaten here twice and both were very different experiences…
The first time my partner and I arrived without a reservation at about 9pm on a wednesday night, the place was absolutely deserted which we thought was a bit of a bad omen but we thought we’d give it a go… suprisingly, it was amazing! the curry was absolutely delicious, creamy and rich and not a bad price either. the service was good. we left feeling pretty happy.
The second time we got a takeaway and it was AWFUL. ergh, i ate too bites and threw the rest out. it didn’t even taste like curry it was so bizarre.
I think an important part of restaurant success is having consistency. You need to know that you are going to enjoy your meal, any time, every time.
I’d be prepared to give courtney taj the benefit of doubt because the first meal was so good, but i’d have to go again to make a complete conclusion.
Try it for yourself, you might have the best curry like we did.

We went to Courtenay Taj for dinner after movies at Reading Cinema. Tuesday night they was very busy. We had lovely meal, and great service. We will definetely back.
We also made use of a Groupy voucher last weekend to dine at Courtenay Taj. We chose tandoori prawns and barra champ (tiny lamb chops marinated in yoghurt and spices) for our entrees – they were delicious and arrived on a sizzling dish. For the main course, we shared butter prawns in a sweet, rich sauce and anarkali gosht, lamb pieces in a white sauce with mint powder. The lamb dishes were superb, with well-flavoured and tenderly cooked pieces of meat. We were very impressed with the service; our waiter checked in to see how our meals were and was attentive throughout the evening.

We also visited during lunch hour with Groupy vouchers. We were shown to our seats and then left for ages before a 2nd waiter came to take our order. Unfortunately we didn’t have menus yet – he got us some but no apology for the wait. It wasn’t busy.
The groupy deal itself was badly managed by CT; it claimed to be worth upto $13.5 covering Naan, Curry and Rice, but the waiter was unwilling to satisfy our request to get a garlic naan, despite our order still coming in under $13.5. That left a slightly sour taste but we moved on from it. The food arrived in reasonable time in slightly small portions but tasted good.
The chef is good but I’m unable to say anything positive for the rest due to disappointing customer service.
**Update **
Have since given it another go – again food was good. There were enough meat chunks but they weren’t the highest quality – i’m comparing to Balti, my favourite.
On this visit the waiter managed to incorrectly calculate the receipt and overcharge us – he corrected the mistake and apologised but I don’t want to feel like I need to double check receipts when I eat out – that’s one mistake too many so I won’t be returning.

We got some “groupy” discount vouchers and got two takeaway curries for lunch.
They were a bit stingy on the meat and vegetarian pieces in the curries and some plastic utensils would a been really good to have.
It was alright and tasty, but if they are usually that cheap with the chunky pieces in the curry, I wouldnt go back.

Very disappointing dinner experience.
Ordered a couple of mains (Chicken Korma and Beef Vindaloo). The menu said they came with complementary rice, so I was a little surprised when the waiter asked (in badly broken English) if we wanted rice or naan bread. I said yes, we did want rice, and additionally ordered some garlic naan bread.
The mains came – two small bowls of curry, and a basket of naan. No rice. The waiter asked if we wanted rice. I said “yes”, and he wandered off – and that was the last time we saw any wait staff. We were ignored for the rest of the meal. We did wonder if perhaps the waiter had substituted the order of naan for the rice which should have come with our meal, but no – we were charged for the mains and naan at the end.
I will say that quality of the food was excellent. (The garlic naan was exceptionally good). What really ruined the experience was the quantity of food – portions were tiny, and the lack of rice was really annoying – especially since the rice was included in the cost of the mains, so we were paying for something we didn’t get. And as a result, the place was absolutely terrible value for money. It’s always bad when you leave a restaurant feeling ripped off AND still hungry…
Beyond that the presentation didn’t even rate a 1; it was literally just a bowl and a spoon. The service (what there was of it) was terrible. But the restaurant was pretty, clean, well lit, and tastefully decorated, so I guess there was that?
I won’t be coming back.
