I wouldn’t go back…. We had a deal – when we originally rang to book in they told they that they weren’t taking any more deal vouchers and I would have to go during the week. I told them that when I bought the deal – there was no restriction on the days I could use it. They finally agreed to book me in 2 weeks later.
We ordered the mixed platter for entree – and when it arrived it was missing the Seekh Kebabs, but they told me they had replaced it with a Chicken Samosa. When I said that we didn’t like Chicken samosas and wanted the Seekh Kebabs as was written in the menu – they said they didn’t have any Seekh Kebabs. All the food on the platter was cold – and awful. It tasted like it had been heated in a microwave. Chicken Tikka – yeah right… I don’t think so. We all had chicken meals and we were all disappointed… The Mango lassis were small for the price and nowhere near as nice as others we have. Overall – very disappointing and I would not go back even if it was free. When I went to pay, I again raised the issue of the entree and got told – “well you ate most of it….” – yes we did – because we were hungry – but nobody ate the chicken samosa because we didn’t order it!
Really really disappointing and definitely wouldn’t recommend this place!

“Hidden treasure”……….that’s what I think about this place. I agree that the staff are fantastic and friendly.

I love the mains……lamb korma is great and paneer m. taste delicious (can’t remember what its call……)

A must try is the Chocolate Samosa!

Yes the service is a little slow at first but its worth waiting while having your dinner conversation as they serve the entree first – main -then dessert in a prompt manner (well done)

Great for groups or just for two.

I definitely recommend this place to others.
Don’t worry to much on some negative remarks. You got to try your own to find out.

As for my experience…………its all worthwhile. YK

My husband, son and I had a deal voucher for the Curry Mantra, after reading the reviews I was expecting the service to be terrible, I was very pleasantly surprised! The staff who waited on us were fantastic, efficient and friendly, the food was plentiful, delicious and well presented. My son loved the chocolate samosas! The place does look a little drab and could do with a bit of a spruce up. Give it a go, you might be pleasantly surprised yourself. :-)

I am a foodie! It’s the worst food I have tasted ever! Took 35 mins to get our food out and we were the only people there! Sorry but the quality of food has to increase 10 folds now or I give this place 6 months and it will close down.

On reading the reviews of this establishment I was wary as I had a deal voucher.
The whole meal was cooked to perfection.
The naan bread was great.
Service was wonderful
I would recommend this place to any one.

Been here twice. Both times with vouchers. Reviews made me wary of the establishment. Seemed like a joint where the food would either be amazing or a total flop.

Service was left wanting. I do agree on that. Unless you make direct eye contact and hold it…like a stare contest.. ( just joking ) they come and take your order… Just take a while to bring it to you. Not the food. But the drinks. I placed an order for 2 cokes and 2 beers. Came 20 minutes later. No one else was occupying the time of the waiter. It just seemed that there was something far more interesting on the computer screen than serving a customer his order ;) .

Food was nice. Again.. HOT IS HOT. So play it smart. Both visits had their faults in the food being served. My entree was served whilst I was halfway through my main..

And the second visit left me puzzled. What was mentioned in the fine print was not what was being dictated to me in the restaurant. Somehow all the ice cream ( kulfi ) had finished. And we were served up halwa…mate I hate that $&*^…

But overall.. If you forget about the lack of service or the choice of ignoring fine print… The food does step up to give this place a 3 star rating.. If you would like to work on your patience and want to do so for free minus a shrink..Come here. They will do you justice.

We should have read the other reviews first before dinning here.

We arrived with a 4 year old at 6:30pm, ordered within 5 minutes and waited until 7:30pm for the first food, which was nibbles, not entrees.

We asked repeatedly for each course as we were waiting too long.

We finally were given 1 desert at 8:50pm, another at 8:53pm and it was the wrong one!

We asked for a doggy bag and were told you cannot take food away as it’s a Fine Dinning restaurant!

I think they should google the definition of fine dinning and look more closely at their restaurant. Ceiling tiles not aligned, the door doesn’t work, their toilet doesn’t lock, get the picture?

The food was good if you can put up with everything else.

Oh and the correct desert came at 9:01pm.

Oh dear…

Visited this place with my friends hoping to have a good meal but we were completely disappointed and will be never returning to this place ever again even if we get Free Vouchers…

To start with the waiting staff is terrible.. there were 2 of them at the bar but only the girl kept on doing all the work. the guy was just standing looking at his computer screen.

We ordered few drinks and starters, but it took more than half an hour for our drinks to come to the table.

When we ordered a simple chapati, we were told restaurant is very busy and chef cannot make it. there were only 3 tables occupied including ours and we had ordered only 2 chapatis… what kind of restaurant cannot handle 3 tables…

The food that came tasted nothing near to maharashtrian food… people come to this place thinking they will get a good maharashtrian food but we were disappointed…

Do not waste your time and money going to this place.

My husband & I went to Curry Mantra this evening with a Treat Me voucher. We had been here a few times over the past 3 years and once again were not let down. The servings may be small but this ain’t your regular suburban Indian restaurant, it is all about flavour not the bulk. Will definitely go again as have no come across an Indian restaurant like this in Auckland before.

Total failure in quality, quantity and service. Some items are no way near what they should actually taste. I think they need to visit other Indian restaurants to understand the market. Mains without rice is quite surprising. Second visit is impossible.

Oh, as a matter of fact, after having read the other reviews about this Restaurant am simply stunned as to what do I write, as in What else can I write to talk about the quality as well as the quantity of food served. It was a terrible night and a very bad experience. I’ve visited a few Restaurants in Auckland as well as Wellington but to be honest, this place was no good. Firstly we ended up paying 49 bucks for 4 people as we had the voucher . We thought that it would be a good one. Because we have purchased such vouchers for other Restaurants as well and they’ve really turned to be the best and value for money. But this place was like a nightmare. The portions were really small rather insufficient even for a single person, and highly priced. The manager on duty himself didn’t know what all ingredients would be there in the dish, he looked so confused and misguided us. I called for a tawa paneer, which he initially said it would be a curry, I confirmed it and asked him again whether it would be in a tomato base. He acknowledged and said yes. Later he comes, that’s like after half an hour or so and says that its not a curry but a starter. Isn’t that ridiculous . I kept my cool and asked him to check with the chef if he could make it in a curry and if it would taste good. He said yes. But it was a complete disaster. Then we also had asked him to make the curries hot, but all in vain. The curries were tasteless and the naan too was not good. Unlike the other restaurants, it neva tasted like a garlic nan.
All I would like to say, that this place is not worth going to. The portions are small, insufficient, tasteless, ignorant staff and lastly not worth the money that one spends. I came home hungry, and warned my husband that henceforth he’s not going to buy any such coupons and not atleast for this restaurant.

We went to this restaurant as a result of a voucher deal that my father-in-law bought, which was $29 for 2x curries, 2x naan, 2x dessert and 2 glasses of wine. Seemed an okay deal at the time but…

Decor is okay but the tiled floor makes it cold and hard looking – carpet is much nicer!

The restaurant is not BYO, which is a mistake for a curry house as it is normal practice and works well.

The first disappointment was that rice was not included with the curries, so we had to pay $3 extra each for rice.

We also decided to order a mixed entree platter for 2 as we normally do. This was another $16. They could not offer us any specific wine, only “white” or “red.”

There were no poppadoms on the table to nibble on while we waited for the food, which took an inordinate amount of time to arrive. They did eventually serve a very small number of potato croquettes but by this time we were expecting our entrees so we were very hungry and these did not help!

As I alluded to above, the entrees took forever to arrive (around an hour)! When they finally arrived they were small (like 1 samosa between two people), and what’s worse is they were lukewarm at best! I like my food to be steaming hot (as in temperature, not spice necessarily) but this had obviously been either served onto a cold plate or left sitting around for a long time.

After we finished the entree, the mains took probably another half hour to arrive, and like the entrees they were small, and cold! We sent them back to get heated up but they were still only lukewarm when we got them back.

The rice was average and the curries were probably two stars out of 5, and half the size that you would normally expect from a curry house (we go out to various Indian restaurants at least once a month plus do takeaway often so we know what we’re on about). The naan was fine.

Once we had finished our mains we then had to wait ages to have our desseMorert order taken, and then probably another 20 minutes for it to arrive.

The deal said “dessert platter for two” but what we ended up with was one tiny chocolate samosa (which for the record was nice) and one scoop of ice cream – hardly enough for one person, let alone two.

By the time we finished I was in a very bad mood and our three year old daughter was very unsettled. The whole process had taken over two hours, and I was left hungry and very dissatisfied at the end!

These people should not be in the restaurant business, the staff were very nice but obviously between the kitchen and the floor staff they had no idea how to run a restaurant. Gordon Ramsay would have had a field day!!

Great tasting food at reasonable prices, presented nicely. Staff were all very friendly and chatty without being intrusive, and smiled a lot. Parking is easy, decor is modern; everything looked clean and tidy. It was our first time here and we will definitely come back, as well as recommending to family and friends.

Good tasty food. But arrogant and unfriendly owner. Restaurant was empty still very slow service. It took 40 minutes for them to bring food to our table. It was extremely frosty inside restaurant. Food quantity was less and one dish was extremely cold. We will not visit again.

The decor is nice, its a fresh clean family setting with alot of space. The food ruins it and the cook needs to take some classes. I dont know if it was just a bad night but we had a chicken dish which was supposed to be made of mint. It smelled and tasted like raw ginger garlic. I took it home and recooked it because it costed too much to just throw away. The prawn salsa with coconut tasted like nothing but salt, and the roti was thick and under cooked. The vege Palau which was supposed to be “not spicy” for my 1yo daughter was hot, spicy and overkill on the coriander powder. The chicken lollipops however were lovely. The waiter was friendly and helpful. I hope the food improves because it has the potential to be a lovely restaurant.

I would like to praise this simple yet wonderful restaurant for its delicious dishes. It has excellent food served with a nice decor for family and friends to enjoy. Every item on the menu is cooked so well that no customer would be disappointed once they have eaten.

One of the authentic taste of Mumbai with wide range of menu. Excellent food. Their gulkand and meetha paan ice cream is so yum; so is their kulfi. Now I don’t miss Mumbai. Thank you guys!

Hi all foodies

Possibly the most original & ‘true to its origin’ menu I have come across out side of India.

Apart from the internationally over rated Chicken Butter Masala and Paneer Butter Masala, each and every item they have on the menu is a testimony to their quest to bring authentic West Indian dishes.

We are regulars, have also got them to cater for ou daughtrer’s birthday.

For the Indian Chinese lovers, ask the Chef to dish out his favourites. THey aren’t on the menu.

For the ladies who like to feast on eye candy, Suyog the chef will not disappoint.

Keep it up Curry Mantra.

Hi there,

I’m from East Auckland (Half Moon Bay) and started to curse myself for driving so long to try-out this new place….even after reaching there started to wonder why would someone want to open a restaurant in such a remote place so far away from prime locations!! but trust me it was all worth it in the end! Ambience was good, service was great and food was just too good!!After a long long time I got a chance to eat something so different and good. Would definitely recommend the Sol Curry and the Mutton Thali – especially the sukha mutton and the Zunkha bhakhar – Am craving to vist the place once again very soon!! 4 stars from me! Good work Curry Mantra team!!

All the very best!
