If shark fin soup was not on the menu at Daphne’s I would be able to return and enjoy another great meal. However, I was horrified to find this fantastic restaurant supports the inhumane method of slicing off a shark’s fin. The fish is still living when this happens. When it is thrown back into the sea it is still alive. It will either drown , bleed to death or get eaten alive. 100 million sharks die this way every year. They may just starve to death but however their miserable deaths occur their lives will be worth a $100 bowl of soup.
No reputable restaurant could possibly support an unsustainable and cruel industry like this. We will return to Dapne’s when shark fin soup is taken off the menu.

The staff are very friendly and obliging and the setting is plush. Unfortunately the food is below par. I found it quite tasteless and bland. Also, the prices are quite high. You do pay a premium for dining here. I have tried Daphne’s out a few times due to the location (I live in Avonhead) but I don’t think I’ll be going back soon (I’m always willing to give a restaurant another chance!).

Food was not up to the standard and the one price in the menu card and charged more for the food When I asked the staff they said price has increased and ask me to pay higher price .Very disappointed and hope not to go and eat from their.

What can I say but that this often busy bus-tour patronised restaurant has completely disappointed me more than once? For the price I would wish for something approaching the Emperor level cuisine I have greatly enjoyed elsewhere; or at the very least that it should at least approximate such heights. But none of these dishes are to be found at Daphne’s, nor any of the finesse required to approach their ilk. Instead, Daphne’s is the same o same o Chinese available at several other places nearby, but worse and significantly more expensive. I have only found overly oily, unrefined and imbalanced food with cheap vegetables entirely unworthy of the price asked. I shall not return.

This is probably the best Chinese currently open in Christchurch, and yes I have been to most of them!
I had the Peking duck, which I have had in Beijing, and it compared well!
The fried dumplings were also delicious, as was the turnip cake. I had been going off Sui Mai and wasn’t going to order it as the last few places I have been they were not exciting… here I really enjoyed them again. Congee excellent. The only dish to disappoint were the combination fried noodles, they were only average.
I will be coming again (and again)

Food was great and prices were very reasonable.. gotta go again….. service was excellent, staff spoke English, one of the finer chinese restaurants in Christchurch
What an amazing place. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The meals are superb. Thank you very much for catering for 80 guests in one block booking and putting on a wonderful banquet. Thanks also for catering for my food allergies and being very understanding. Was in Christchurch for 7 nights and eat here 4 as it was so wonderful.
