There is nothing too flashy about the Day’s Bay Pavilion, except for the pizza. And that is simply divine.
I have terrible memories of the old Pavilion cafe from a few years’ ago, shocking service and even worse greasy food. I am not really sure what has changed in terms of the venue itself, but in its current incarnation it feels much more welcoming. Perhaps that was just the lovely sunset and the blazing fire though.
The service wasn’t flash, the staff were young and disorganised (two different waitresses tried to take our order), but very polite despite an obvious rush of other customers.
The kitchen offered a range of mains, but we went straight for the pizzas. All were made with thin bases and excellent ingredients – and were excellent value. After chatting to the waiter (our third) we ended the meal with an off-menu secret – the Nutella Calzone. This is a sweet pizza base smeared with Nutella, folded in half and popped into the pizza oven until the outside is crisp and the inside is melty. It doesn’t sound much, but it was absolutely yum – and a complete bargain at a few cheap dollars.
I enjoyed my visit so much that I returned a day later to try brunch. Again it wasn’t flashy, but the coffee was good and the food was simple, but expertly made with truly excellent ingredients.
Highly recommended.

Thought that it would be nice to head to Days Bay last Sunday and grab a pizza to have on the beach. Having just moved from their old premises to the Pavillion I was impressed by the look of the new place and that they now offered more than Pizza for dining in.
My initial impression was quickly dashed however by the rude owner who seemed to be in some kind of rush to take our order – dispite their only being 6-7 other diners in the place. We placed our order once we had selected our Pizzas, once they were ready we decided that we would grab a couple of drinks to go as well. After standing at the counter being ignored for some 2-3 minutes whilst the staff chattered the owner then came over and said in a very annoyed way ‘what else do you want?’ at which point I asked for 2 drinks had my eftpos card taken out of my hand and then the receipt put on the bench – without a word.
As for the pizzas, we asked for extras to be added which we got charged for but were not on the pizza and they lacked any real flavor. Very disappointing.
Seems that the Days Bay Pavilion has turned into an eatery resting on the location and providing sub-standard service and food. Will not be returning.
