If this is what the “Belgian Experience” is like, then they can keep it.

We came for lunch on Thursday 19 August.

We ordered the Lobster Bisque mussel pot, mixed platter grilled mussels, spicy pork ribs, the steak meal and a child’s fish and chips.

The grilled mussel platter was at best “bland” at worst bloody horrible, small bits of chewy, tasteless rubber.

The “spicy” pork ribs tasted of nothing – even with the addition of salt and pepper it was difficult to determine whether or not they had flavor. And believe me, this was ordered by my grand-daughter who loves ribs but doesn’t like things too spicy, so for her to complain that they tasted of nothing…..hmmmm say no more

The mussel pot was very disappointing – the mussels were once again tasteless and unappetizing with no mussel flavor coming thru at all.

For $140 I certainly expected a hell of a lot more than we got. I have had better food at Valentines (now that must be telling you something)

I enjoy this restaurant but when I tried the lamb shanks they were awful, they were very red inside and tasted more cheap corn beef, when I advised the waiter he just took my meal away and turned his nose up at me, Im not in the habit of being rude all i said was that I could not eat the meal as it was awful, he never came back, no discussion nothing, I had my b day last month and 20 of us went out to diner, I refused to go to your restaurant, I was not valued as a customer, I was treated appalling

Very good experience. Four of us had the metre long sausage, which was delicious, try and beat finishing it in 7minutes. Our waiter was extremely helpful and the whole night was a complete success, would definitely go back.

Well this place has been getting poor reviews for a while now and sadly it hasn’t improved.

We ate here last night and it was not in the least bit enjoyable :(

Service was just okay.

Food was very disappointing. I judge a restaurant by how well they cook a steak and out of 4 steaks ordered medium-rare 4 steaks arrived cooked well-done, although still claiming to be medium-rare they were dry and tough, I have never had to send a steak back before but to their credit they cooked the replacement a little better.

Finally, if a Belgian restaurant is not able to cook a Belgian waffle properly then they really should change the name, it tasted terrible, like burnt vegetable oil and the texture was chewy. So desert was no saving grace.

Mission Bay is a great place to go out for dinner any time of the year but please don’t waste your time eating here.

I used to like to go to the Belgian Beer Cafe because of its selection of beer and food, and very cost effective.

But the lack of good service and long waiting times are making it less preferable as a dining destination.

One of the Better Belgain bars in Auckland. Staff are mostly friendly. Food is generally good. The mussel pot is definately the way to go as it is great value for money, some of the other meals are smallish in size. Service can be slow at times, but can be understood because it is quite a busy place.

This use to be the best place to go for great service / food / and a cherry beer or few. I have been going there over 4 years – originally service was great either day or night managers were brilliant and so were the staff. But lately the staff have been terrible bad food bad service (if you get served at all)a certain manager there couldn’t give a toss if a complaint was layed about a certain waitress who needs anger managerment classes after slamming my drink down the 2nd time on the table because I told her it was warm I mean come on “warm rum and coke”. Now I go to Glengarry’s for my Cherry Beer

I enjoy Belgian beer a lot. The Belgian beer chain in central Auckland serves some pretty good mussels and fine Belgian beer. It is nice that they are open for breakfast, however I don’t think that European breakfast is De Fontein’s specialty. My first visit was bad service from the kitchen where it took 40 minutes to receive a croissant with boiled eggs. The croissant was not warm. The second visit, also for breakfast, was a Belgian waffle with bacon and grilled banana. It looked great, but the waffle was surprisingly dry and stale. When I mentioned this to the waitress she asked if I wanted more syrup. Pretty interesting resolution to a stale gauffre! I had to chuckle at the sound of it. Nice staff, but poor quality breakfast food. Stick to the mussels and beer I say.
