Went to The Deck last night (16 March 2013) with my partner. We had the Scallops as a main course and were extremely disappointed to find that, for $26.00 per main, we got 8 over cooked rubbery fried scallops (with that burnt taste of oil re-used too often for frying), a small rice cake and a large lettuce leaf dumped on top to make it look substantial. I’m still hungry as I write this. There was no Eftpos working and the staff should have told us this before serving our drinks and then assuming that we would be happy to trot off to a distant bank to get some cash. Not recommended at all.

We frequent the deck on a regular basis and every meal we have had there is a winner. Friendly service is the cherry on top. Reasonably priced and a great view!

The Garlic Bread had no garlic, more like curry on it.
The mains were very average.
When we went to order dessert, out of about 5 desserts, only one was available, which we didn’t like but when we asked about the Creme Bulee, the waitress told us that they were too busy to make any.
So we won’t be going back there again!

Very disappointed… My partner, myself and teenage son went for dinner tonight. Was greeted by a rather unfriendly lady, who sternly asked if we had a booking. The restaurant was half full! We had to ask for water which was “plonked” on our table, wait for quite a while for our drinks which did not have ice and my partners whiskey was accompanied by an unopened bottle of ginger ale. My Vodka lime & lemonade had minimal lime if any! Our meals took over 30 minutes. We were not advised there was a wait! My lamb ragout was gluggy, with alot of rice and not alot of lamb! The service was far from friendly and welcoming. We were not asked how our meals were or if we wanted any more drinks or desserts. As we are locals will not be recommending The Deck to anyone else!
Dined at The Deck last night (January 5th) with three lady friends. The service was excellent and the food ‘yummy’.
Would certainly recommend dining at The Deck to my friends.
The staff were excellent. Can certainly recommend dining at The Deck if you are in Orewa.

‘The Deck’ is a hidden gem in Orewa and the only restaurant where you can actually gaze at the sea whilst eating.
My main course of scallops and Thai cake was extremely tasty and perfectly cooked. The service was impeccable, the interesting background music is worth a mention and the prices are very affordable. I recommend ‘The Deck’ restaurant for a relaxing and enjoyable place to enjoy excellent food.

We went to The Deck a couple of months back now and had a wonderful dining experience. The food was absolutely beautiful and delicious (try the lamb it melts in the mouth) and the service from the Irish waitress was warm, friendly and wonderful. The tables and restaurant were clean. My only niggle is they had run out of a few meals or parts of meals, and the restaurant wasn’t that busy when we were there, but the meals we had were beautiful. Worth pointing out is that they account for gluten intolerance and were more than happy and accommodating of our various dietary requirements. I’d recommend this restaurant to others.

Went there for Mothers Day dinner. Setting and decor were very nice however on Mothers Day the restaurant was three quarters empty! We were very disappointed as service was near non-existent. Due to this and the disappointing quality of our main courses we didn’t stay for dessert. Wouldn’t recommend.

Lunch at The Deck, first timers, awesome food, service was spot on and the coffee was so good. Reasonably priced to boot.
My partner and I wanted to take my elderly stepmother out for lunch and wanted to try The Deck restaurant after reading the good reviews on Menu Mania. We were not disappointed. The food was tasty and well priced and the waitress attentive. Combined with a lovey sunny day we thoroughly enjoyed our lunch here.

Decided late in the day to book and found the staff helpful in getting us the seats we wanted. 6 adults were dining so had a fair range of the menu, food was good, tasty and looked good on the plate. There were no complaints from any of the diners, prices were very reasonable and the food was plentiful. We will be adding this restaurant to our list of places to go on a regular basis.

Went to The Deck for lunch on Sunday with husband and our two little kids. Never been there before so thought to give it a try as their big blackboard said ‘stunning vies’ and ‘award winning chef’… Sounded good to me… Went in and we were welcomed by two very nice waitresses. We were the only people there so the first thought in our mind was ‘ yay, we’ll get our food nice and quick’. Well, that was not the case. Food was ordered at 12 sharp. At 12.20 we got the scrambled eggs I asked them to make for my baby. At 12.35 breakfast arrived for my toddler. When I asked when are we going to get our meals, the answer was ‘ he just started on the steak’… As soon as we heard we have decided that we no longer wish to stay there. As we were quite frustrated by that time the waitress did explain that it is not the normal chef that they usually have on, but seriously, even I can make some bacon & eggs or cook some steak… I offered to pay for the scrambled eggs but the waitress said that it’s ok and that they are very sorry for everything. I appreciate the good manners of both waitresses and might come back, but only if their normal chef is on. Will make sure to phone and ask next time.

i was taken to the deck for my birthday with 7 others we had checked the write ups so we were a little worried this soon disappeared as the service was superb and the meals which ranged from scollops pork, steak, burger, chicken and salmon all arrived in about 30 minutes of ordering and were superbly presented and tasted as good as it looked. We like to thank July our waitress for makeing a good night great Many thanks

I have heard a lot of good things about this restaurant and yesterday for my partners birthday I decided to spoil her at this restaurant . To be honest to me this is the best restaurant in Orewa ,i have been to many restaurant in Orewa and i never seem to enjoy the food like i did at The Deck. I had squid and prawn as my entre and my partner had scallops . Both our entres were full of flavour and I liked the sauce on my squid and prawn oh…..yum. On mains I order Eastern Chicken and my partner order pork , we had to share both the dishes and believe me I have never ate something like that in my life. Hands up for the chefs. The service was good and I am definately going to come back and preach the word to all my friends
We have 3 kids under 8 years old. They were away for the holidays at their Grandparents so since we never get the opportunity to go out for dinner I was quick to book The Deck for what was intented to be a romantic dinner out. After reading the new Orewa Beach Visitor Guide that came in the mail the ad for The Deck looked lovely. I booked for 7pm on a Friday night. Unfortunately it went from bad to worse from the moment we ordered. The waitress didn’t know what the soup of the day was, the lamb that I ordered they’d run out of, we waited 50min for our entree, a group of 4 people that arrived 20mins after we did were served their entree before us, our mains arrived immediately after we’d eaten our last mouthful of our entree, my husbands beer bottles were never once cleared from the table, my ‘alternative’ lamb that I ordered was bland (but presented nice I’ll give them that). My husbands sirloin steak was nice but certainly nothing special, the dessert I ordered they’d also run out of and the ones we did order were ‘ok’. Then to top it off we paid cash for our meal but the waitress didn’t have any $10 notes in the till for our change. Very disappointing for a couple that was looking so forward to having a much needed romantic dinner out

took my family there last night. waiteress took our order, all seemed fine at this point. kids food arrived and then took probably the better part of 45min for our mains to arrive. by this point kids were bored as they had finished their food ages ago. this caused a very stressful meal for the adults. after our mains were completed ordered dessert for the kids, yet again dessert took ages to arrive. only reason we were finally given dessert is because we went to the front to complain. plates were not cleared from the table until i had to ask waiteress to please clear the table. very disappointed and will most certainly not be going back.

I took a group of ladies for lunch last week to The Deck.
Now this group are very discerning and believe me if there is any little thing wrong I hear about it. However everyone of the 15 ladies enjoyed their meals . I heard that the fish, chicken, steak, and salad dishes were all excellent. Now I know how hard it is to please everyone . and also how hard it is to get all the meals out together .
Lovemore has done a fantastic job and it would be one of the best eateries in Orewa.
Just needs more signage on the street so people can find it.

The food is quite adequate – nothing extremely special….but, we were in this restaurant tonight – wanted a nice cosy table for two, were shown to a table with no views of the beach (the place is nearly empty) – we asked if we could possibly sit at the table with the window – told ‘NO’ This table was not occupied the entire time we were at this restaurant – what ever happened to customer service?
This place needs to improve on customer service, for the prices they are charging I wouljd have expected to have not only the lovely food, but also first class service.
Could do a lot better – will not be going back here!

Amazing Food ! Really enjoyed our experience at The Deck !
Entrees – Salt and Pepper Squid and Prawns with a passionfruit and chilli dipping sauce was AMAZING!
– Scallop entree again Amazing, however the three scallops didnt seem to satisfy my partner although those three he did get were cooked to perfection , the best we have ever had!
Mains – Eastern Chicken – Perfect ! Enjoyed every bit of it !
and my Partners Pork Belly again cooked to perfection!
We will DEFINATELY be coming back again!

Hi…my husband and I had read the reviews at this restaurant and decided even through it had mixed ones we would give it a go. We had booked for a big number of people and arrived was seated, so far good, as the evening went on and everyone was seated we had several waitresses that did not know what they were doing in regards to ordering drinks we were only able to deal with one person!! which is not great for a big table. Then the entrees arrive we had 2 little ones at this stage nothing had been brought out for them, so they were getting abit cranky finally after two complaints from our table and 1.half hours after we were all seated and orders taken, the children’s meals arrived, yes yum….it then took another half hour for the adults meals to come, abit slack really!!! The food was fantastic, cannot fault that at all, the service was terrible, at one point my husband was going to leave…so because of that we will not be returning to this restaurant again.

My wife and I brought 2 overseas visitors to The Deck on Thursday, February 16th and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.I had previously booked for two on Valentines Day and received an email confirmation but had to cancel due to my feeling unwell. When my wife telephoned to cancel,no trace of our reservation could be found !! Not a promising start.
However we did dine on the 16th and it proved to be what was,for me at least, the nicest restaurant meal I have had for a very long time.I had scallops and bacon as a main, our visitors chose the fish of the day and my wife went for sirloin steak. The high quality meals and wine contributed to a very pleasant evening with our visitors.Dave King, Orewa

Very surprised at the 1st review regarding the St. Valentine’s dinner!
Although we didn’t dine at The Deck that night, we have actually dined there many times since it opened, and have NEVER been disappointed with the service or the food. We live locally, and for the first time in years, this restaurant has been consistently busy and we now have to book in order to get a table
I understand there is a new chef on board now to help cope with the demand. I think when any new restaurant opens there is always a settling in period but from our perspective the food has always been excellent, and the waiting staff extremely pleasant and attentive.

Booked for Valentines night, on arrival we were told it was a set menu, which we were not told of prior. $60.00 per head, no drinks included, Ouch that’s Auckland prices however what choice did we have at that hour on Valentines however optimistic as the chef was chosen as a beef and lamb ambassador in 2010 and apparently has top awards, should be good, NOT
Menu: Amuse Bouche, the chefs intro to the Valentines menu. We didn’t receive anything yet were charged for it as part of the set menu
Entree: choice of 3 we had the chicken ravioli and the scallops, the waitress (I use that term loosely) got our dishes mixed up, we started and then realised we had the wrong ones, we couldn’t tell the difference as they both looked the same topped with salad greens and grated carrot with balsamic and pesto drizzle on the side of the plate, the food though not offencive was not anything fabulous to excite the taste buds.
Mains choice of 4, we chose the Eastern chicken, authentic flavours of Africa and the Prime scotch fillet with award winning beef jus. The chicken breast was absolutely cooked to death and nasty and I was extremely disappointed with the flavourings it was just boring and not the exotic dish I expected. The steak was cooked well and the jus was lovely however the accompaniments to both dishes were bad and both again had the balsamic and pesto drizzle with bad presentation, I was wondering at this stage if the dessert also would have the drizzle.
Dessert: choice of 3, we had Cream brule and the Cheesecake, the cream brule was pure liquid, not set at all and the cheesecake, ho hum, just a disaster.
It was shabby, no ambiance, the young waitstaff were hopeless, dessert plates were left on a table by us when we arrived and were cleared just as we left, they forgot our cutlery twice, mixed up our dishes our water wasn’t topped up our chilled white wine left to warm, I had to ask for an ice bucket, we werenMore‘t asked if we needed anything and the chef?owner ripped us off, we weren’t the only ones that felt this way as we heard others complaining bitterly, they also weren’t informed of the set menu and were disappointed with the food, one man saying his lamb was overcooked, dry and not nice his partner also complaining about her choices
Our review: It may be ok for a lunch however for a high priced romantic dinner Absolutely appalling.

My wife & I went for lunch last Saturday. There is a good selection of wines (I had a house NZ Pinot Noir) and non-alcoholic bevvies. The menu prices are reasonable, particularly considering the food is excellent. Lovemore is a highly trained chef, and prepares beautifully cooked & presented meals. We had Calamari and Scallops which were both cooked to perfection, with really fresh salad and yummy. Followed by the gluten-free chocolate surprise which was full of chocolate and not too sweet. We will be back again soon. Not to mention the great view over Orewa Beach.
I went for lunch yesterday and had the Tuscan chicken salad and a trim latte. The whole lot was amazing, and at a very reasonable price, oh and a seat with a view too. Fantastic! I will be back soon
