This is the only place in Wellington I have managed to find that does Indian street food. I have been looking for pani puri and bhel puri for a long time. Pani puri makes me happy. There is quite a large snack menu and also a large range of Indian sweets. I think I am going to try and eat my way through the menu over the next few months.

For many years these people traded as Indian Flavours, selling a cheap and reasonably authentic thali. It was one of my favorite restaurants. Then they sold out and moved to Lower Hutt. The new owners ran the business into the ground by serving food which was not fresh! Now the original staff have opened this new ‘Delhi Brasserie’ just a few doors down from where the old shop is still struggling on. Great you might say, but alas no. The standards here too have slipped. I bought a dosai. It should have been served with sambal, coconut and a specific traditional curry. Instead it came with curried left-overs and frozen veges. Yuck! I fear that the entrepreneur who ran the old shop into the ground also has control of the new Delhi Brasserie. Certainly I have seen him eating there rather than enjoying his mother’s cooking a few doors down the street in Indian Flavours.
