Decided to stop for brunch here on the way home from holidays. 2 adults and 3 little girls. $110!! For 5 juices, 2 adult breakfasts and 3 kids meals. That’s one incredible public holiday surcharge.

No common sense from the waitress in terms of kids meal was 1 fried egg and bacon…we asked if it could be scrambled which it was….on the bill however was the full adults price because it wasn’t exactly what the kids menu said. My husband asked for 3 poached eggs (1 extra) and 1 sausage. He was charged $20 for the 2 eggs and bacon, $2.88 for an extra egg and $2.88 for the small kransky making his cooked breakfast nearly $26 when for $20 the full breakfast would have given him more and he could have left it on the plate. Would have been great if the waitress would have pointed out the option there. Food was acceptable but when we got the bill we felt decidedly ripped off and would not venture back but will return to our normal breakfast place en route. Shame.

Toilets were not clean and there was no soap in the ladies. Service however was satisfactory apart from not being reasonable about minor menu changes. When we added up from the menu we thought we were in for about $60 plus surcharge. $110 is extortion. HAte to think what the tourists think of this kind of charge.

We are new to Whangarei, so have been trying a few places out…it was a quiet Sunday evening, there was hardly anyone at the place. The service was good, very accommodating, and helpful. We ordered bread as starter, and then just some nachos’ and the BBQ spare ribs as it all looked quite pricey. The nachos’ weren’t bad, but I wouldn’t want to EVER eat them again. The ribs were pretty bad – the sauce was too sweet and for $28 some fries or salad would have been nice. I spent around $70 and walked out of there vowing to never go back! The food is not worth the money. Also a tip for Dickens Inn staff – its really not a good look to be stuffing your face with food whilst working in the kitchen – GROSS!!!

Food good but small for the price. Customer service poor and attitude of staff after they made a mistake was very disappointing.

Was not impressed with service there was 3 staff members on and had to go up to counter to order drinks also the chef was feeding her face in front of everyone whilst working i hope she was eating my food while cooking it, also the chef had our meals up waiting for someone to bring to us and the 3 staff members were just standing around talking i wont be going back especially having to pay $1 for no ice in my drink!

Very friendly service and an excellent range of menu options for mains and entrees. The dessert options could do with something chocolate! the pizza bread was tasty but just slightly doughy. The main course was delicious, and the hot chocolate was good.

Food took ages to arrive. Some orders didn’t arrive and the waitress had to be reminded. We served ourselves with water as the water jugs were never replenished. The service was extremely poor and we spent most of the time going up to the bar to ask for stuff we hadn’t recieved. It was my birthday and I will never go there again. The service and food use to be good and we ate there regularly. That is not the case anymore.
