I visited the Dining Room shortly after its opening in April 2011 and my emigration from the UK. The food was great, a vegetarian ravioli starter was still the best I’ve tasted in Auckland and the whole ambiance quirky and different. Unfortunately though the restaurant appeared to close within a few weeks of opening.
The bar and tapas are still good but it would be nice to see the restaurant make a reappearance even if only for a couple of nights a month.

I dined at The Dining Room with my family a little over a week ago having heard of its recent opening through friends. With no booking we arrived and were seated immediately by a friendly and professional Maitre D’. He was extremely accomodating and made us feel welcome and comfortable.
I started with the tuna and my husband had the pumpkin ravioli. Both entrees were exquisite and arrived quickly.
Meal presentation is great and restaurant vibe and decor is very cool.
The kids were well catered for with lasagne and the ravioli as a main, the waitress was only too happy to provide my 11 year old son with a raspberry lemonade of all things! Would highly recommend the lavender panacotta for dessert as was recommended to us by the waitress.
While in the higher price range, the portions are generous and creative, catering for a variety of different palates.
While service was lacklustre and a bit slow in parts, overall it was a very pleasant dining experience and I foresee The Dining Room only improving over time. 4.5/5

After hearing about this newly opened restaurant by the owner of the Library Bar next door we were intrigued.
While the kitch decor is refreshing, the waitresses were typically bored young women not much interested in the patrons. The food itself sounded much more memorable on the menu than it actually was. The view from our table straight into the fluorescent lit kitchen wasn’t great for ambiance either.
Overall, very overpriced for what is essentially bar food. I would recommend skipping the restaurant and head straight to the Library Bar next door.
