I’ve been here quite a few times and really enjoy their fish and chips.

High end fish and chips need to be flaky, crunchy, not-greasy, fresh (with good fish like Tarakihi or Cod or Warehou, which they use). The chips are nice and crisp on the outside and steamy-creamy potato goodness on the inside. Good slap of slaw on the side rounds out the meal.

My friend always gets the steak. It’s well cooked, thick, juicy and they give a lot of attention to the wedge cut spicy potatoes, which she uses to soak up the savory meat juices. Mmmm….meat juices.

I strayed from my usual F&C yesterday and got a roast rack of lamb, which had a lovely middle eastern style crust, but a little too well done for my taste. I like my lamb medium rare. Yet, the bite of salt and pepper lamb’s brain on the side was gorgeous. Crunchy on the outside, creamy on the inside. The jerusalem artichokes and broad beans were perfect accompaniments.

Nice waterfront views. Friendly and knowledgable service.

Have visited the Dockside a number of times over the years but found the standard had deteriorated. Food was good, not exceptional as you would expect for the price. Service was good although restaurant was quiet. Price was high which we were happy to pay but on our arrival found we were to sit on filthy chairs!

My first visit to Dockside and a memorable one at that.
A private group of 40 had a set menu with a choice of 4x4x4.
I really enjoyed the s@p squid, very tender & I could have easily eaten 2 serves.
The main was John Dory and was ok but it should have been served skin on to keep the moisture in.
I finished my dinner with cheese and a glass of port.
The service was exceptional and my glass was never empty, a great evening and would return a sample their a la carte options.

I went to dockside late on a Tuesday afternoon to have a beer and a snack. It was moderately busy. In total, I was there for an hour and a half.

The service was terrible. I was given a menu when I first sat down. The waitress intimated that she would return shortly to take an order. I waited 20 minutes and she did not return. I left my things at the table and went into the restaurant to order. I chose a Heineken and breads. I took the beer and returned. The bread arrived half an hour later. The last time my table was visited was by the waitress to collect my empty glass shortly before I left.

The food was average. The bread turned out to be the pita pockets available at the supermarket. The dips were hummas, dukkah and olive oil. The bread was scarcely warmed. I was not provided any cutlery or a napkin. Total price was $20.

Given this experience and based on reading other reviews about dinner service, I will not be returning.

I have been to Dockside numerous times over the last decade and has always been one of my restaurants of choice. Dinner on the 5/10/12 was the worst experience I have had in a very long time… at any restaurant. It started when we arrived:
1. Due to a number of people paying we were asked to wait on arrival upstairs. After 10 mins I walked through and found someone at the bar and asked to be seated.
2. The staff seemed inexperienced and were not attentive. e.g served wine like you would pour fruit juice,
3. I had to get my own fork for the main course.
4. Main course – lamb rump: one of the worst cuts of lamb I have had. Fatty and very unpleasant.
5. There was no Maitre d and therefore no one looking after the customers
6. We did not stay for dessert but still spent $160.00 for the two of us
7. I have attempted to email Dockside from their website and it bounced back

Overall I found the service very poor, food average and overall not worthy of more than one star.

I have been here on two separate occasions at the beginning of this year. The fist occasion was just my partner and I and the food and service was exceptional! Very tasty and high quality. I returned for a work function and it was the total opposite. Terrible service not enough seats initially and the entrees mains and desserts were all really slow coming out. The mains were small and looked rushed and were lukewarm. Havent been back since.

We had a wonderful experience at dockside – this is really the perfect setting for a family celebration. We had quite a large group including a handful of young kiddies, but the staff were absolute professional in managing us all. We were seated on the deck and treated to beautiful views of the harbour, great live music and fabulous food. Highly recommend.

My partner and I had dinner when we were visiting Wellington on Saturday night and decided to have dinner at your restaurant thinking that it would be a nice meal. What a disappointment it was!

We ordered oysters kilpatrick with garlic bread, market fish of the day and roast lamb. The waitress did not explain the fish of the day and just left. When our oysters arrived, each of our oysters had broken shells in them and we both had broken shells in our mouths which was very unpleasant. Our garlic bread did not arrive. The fish and the lamb were very average.

We had dined in quite a few restaurants in Wellington and we really think that the price you charge for the very average food that was served was too high. It was a disappointing evening for us.

I hadn’t dined at Dockside in several years and was impressed with the decor in the restaurant area which overlooks part of the beautiful Wellington harbour. Our table was over a clear glass panel which meant we could see right down to the water through the dock – very cool! I had the West Coast whitebait fritters to start; although ‘fritters’ were mentioned on the menu, there was in fact just one medium sized fritter served with a small salad. Tasty, but not quite what I expected. My partner’s pan seared garlic prawn were delicious with six large prawns in the salad. For the main course, I had the lamb shank on kumara mash and winter vegetables, which was reasonably tender and subtly flavoured, and my partner enjoyed the prime Angus fillet. The service was excellent; ever present yet inconspicuous. A lovely but very expensive meal.

Had visitors from overseas who wanted seafood meal and when they knew Dockside had whitebait on the menu that’s where we headed. Their whitebait entree was everything and more they wanted with being a good thick patty (and mainly whitebait). The mains were fresh and melt in your mouth (1 fish, 1 chicken, 1 lamb shank). The desserts were divine – I had trio of chocolate and it was out of this world. The service was great – the waitress knew the food, attentive without being “in your face”, pleasant with a sense of humour. My visitors thoroughly enjoyed the evening so thank you Dockside for an all round great dining experience.
