8 Reviews for East Pier
I have had an on off relationship with East Pier for years.
A while ago I wrote to the manager after a very disappointing experience dining and shocking customer service following the complaint, I didn’t get a response so haven’t been for a while.
I went last night for a quick dinner, my lamb starter was lovely although the promised Harissa was not evident.
My guest had a new item the chicken and pumpkin cakes, whilst these were nice enough they were served on spaghetti rather than noodles, a collision of Italy and Asia on a plate. Wouldn’t be hard to source Vietnamese noodles. With a lot of great dining options in Hawkes Bay we will probably give this a miss in the future.

Husband and I took his mum there for Sunday lunch. We thought it looked nice being on the seaside and very accessible for his disabled mum. Can’t complain about the service as there wasn’t any! Had to seat ourselves and not offered water. We sat outdoors and in the couple of hours we were there everyone had to go and order their own drinks and food, because no staff came. When the food arrived no cutlery came and people had to chase the wait staff back indoors to request the same. Husband had chicken burger, MIL had eggs benedict and I had Thai beef salad. Food was average. Certainly wont go there again and would not recommend.

We took visiting family from Christchurch for lunch. Two of the meals were average the other two were tough very little salad and definately not value for money. The guys beers were expensive $9.50 for a pint of Speights. Rang to complain and was advised they could charge whatever they wanted. I believe $9.50 for a pint of speights gold to be highway robbery. Very disappointed and embarrassed at taking family there. Definately will not return there are many other restaurants overlooking the water at far more reasonable prices. Shop around get prices before you are ripped off.

I wouldn’t normally comment on reviews given but I feel I must in this instance. We sell all our NZ tap beers including Speights at $6.70 each not $9.50. This is priced 100% in line with other bars/restaurants in Ahuriri. The 2 gentlemen didn’t want ordinary sized…

Went to have a dinner with my Grabone voucher. If it wasn’t for Grabone I would’ve cried out loud for my money. Pork Fillet $30 was particularly shocking -some pink juice running from inside, sauce was just some heated up cream with no taste, apple salad was just grilled slices of apple on side of the shabby salad. The main menus are def all OVERPRICED and below average taste-quality. If I wasn’t that hungry I wouldn’t have eaten the dish honestly. Shame… But I think if you wanted to go for b/f grill or simple meal like pizza w a drink in an open seaside-view outdoor setting, this would be quite okay.
We held our wedding at East Pier recently on a lovely winter’s afternoon. We had only booked this lovely seaside venue at short notice and bearing all this in mind found the wedding organizer very attentive and accommodating. The Ocean Suite was set up in a lovely way and it really did look a picture. Both the canapés and main dinner were quite lovely and the staff on duty were very helpful and courteous. A lovely venue to hold a wedding if it is absolute beachfront you are looking for at a well priced venue.

Talk about a change! Succulent tender steak, a wonderful steak and mushroom pie in a Guinness gravy, fast service and coffee to die for.
Love it!

Went for lunch and would not go again. Food was very over priced and the portion sizes was very small. Very dissapointed. Beautiful setting though.
A very good menu with the pizzas certainly a hit. Had a beautiful view from our table and the service was as good as we’ve experienced in Hawke’s Bay.Also had a wonderfully cold Stella Artois from the tap.
