El Faro is a Spanish inspired restaurant and tapas bar with an intimate and rather eclectic atmosphere. El Faro is spanish for The Lighthouse.

The owners of El Faro, Mark Ansley and his partner Sarah, have had a love of Spain and it’s people ever since they lived in Europe some years ago, Mark has been a chef for over half his short life and has a passion for getting back to basics with food and a strong belief in sustainable natural farming, local produce and wild meats, he uses the best possible ingredients to put together his ever changing blackboard tapas menu

Whether it is a quick Pre Theatre meal, romantic dinner or letting your hair down, you will love the Mojitos, Caipirinhas, Sangria, Spanish Wines, Beer & funky music.

El Faro consistently receives accolades for its sumptuous green lip mussel pots, tapas, organic beef and vegetarian dishes.

What a great way to experience a little bit of Spain in our own backyard, took my boss there for lunch, we had the most amazing dates with roasted coconut complimented by a recommended traditional Spanish beef stew in a lovely sauce which was tender & great in taste.

Thank you, most impressed with your food & service!

My wife and I decided to break out of our comfort zone and try a different restaurant. I would like to clarify that we like casual ethnic dining that is cheap and cheerful but that is true to it’s origins; we are not food snobs at all but we like good honest flavours prepared with fresh ingredients. El Faro had some good reviews on this website so we thought it was a safe bet. The menu looked appetising but that is where it ended. We ordered stuffed calamari as an entree. It took considerable muscular effort to cut and had some unidentifiable strange tasting stuffing. This was followed by the only main course on offer of a beef stew made with meat that was dry and chewy with a horrible brown gravy that tasted like it came from a packet and we could only manage to eat a small amount each. The ‘patatas’ were simply oily, very salty french fries. When the waitress asked if we liked our meal we expressed our disappointment and she said she would talk to the chef. However we heard nothing more even when I reluctantly went to settle the bill. Avoid.

I am sorry to hear your complaint was not delt with correctly on the night. The Alboraya beef comes with agria potato chips and free range egg mayo on the side when ordered as a main as stated on the menu. I am sorry you believed it would come with either…    More »

We randomly came across El Faro one day in town and as we walked down cobblestone lane my feet herd the beat of some groovy Spanish tunes and we were there…It was like we stepped into Spain itself. Hidden and private. I love it when you can see and feel the love that someone else has for something they have a passion for. Its not only inspiring but comforting that people can create such an atmosphere. The food is amazing the people are real and its not over priced. The second time we decided to book the upstairs for a birthday. We had 25 guests whom were all amazed at the food and atmosphere. =) Very accommodating and overall Fabulous!

I would have tried all the tapas over the past year or two and never had anything greasy. I have never had better chips. If you’re into mussels you will love how they do them. The toppings are magnifico!

The food was fine but uninteresting. On the evening we dined, they’d run out of bread. The dishes were very greasy and a bread or green vegetable would have helped offset this but nothing was available.

There was live music in the courtyard which is a great idea, but it echoed and we struggled to hear each others’ conversation it was so noisy.

I invite you to come back and enjoy a complementary meal, feel free to call me to book 021 778811. On the night you visited it was new years eve and the advertising clearly stated that the kitchen would close at 10pm I was also upset that we ran out of bread at…    More »

On recommendation of a friend of mine I took my date to El Faro on a thursday night, and I got surprised by the out of town experience in the Elliot Stables. With the live music and the authentic spanish tapas accompanied by the homemade Sangria. All this for a very affordable price. Highly recommended.

This is a great spot for a relaxing meal and the staff have that Spanish flamboyance. Flavorsome Tapas and great muscles. Although in the heart of the city, it’s location lends itself to being removed from the hustle the city streets.
