I have dined at Etrusco twice and both times I have left disappointed. The first time I had a pasta which was of a low standard, I probably could have done a better job at home. The second time I decided to try the pizza. Firstly there was a lack of variety among the pizza. They were all rather similar, give or take a few ingredients. I thus decided on a pizza that had mushroom, pepperoni and basil. It was the medium size, although it was 20 dollars. It was not nearly filling enough and I felt slightly ripped off. I have definitely eaten better pizzas for a cheaper price in Dunedin. Both times the service was slow, although the wait staff were still pleasant.

My Fiancee and I dined here recently. I have read the earlier reviews and have to say we received very good service and the wait time for the food was very minimal despite us being walk in customers on a busy Friday night. The food was amazing, I am still craving their pasta!! There was no room for dessert unfortunately. The only down side was the drinks did take a while to arrive after being ordered. Will definitely return

A huge thanks to Etrusco for a superb meal, including going out of their way to deal with our young boy with food allergies.
The service from Rion was excellent and when I asked about a particular wine not on the list they found one in the cellar for us – just wonderful! If ever undecided on what to choose, we recommend their gnocchi…
Our first visit to this restaurant, it clearly will not be our last.

Ignore all the service issues, from what I can see most of the whingers were in large groups and do not alter their perspective for the numbers involved and the timing issues of getting 10 plus meals to you simultaneously. Simple but tasty menu, service with a smile from an international cast. Friday night, no booking, walk up customer, in at 6.30 out at 7.45, leisurely two course meal. Great taste, shame no cheese available but otherwise all good.
I love this place! As a regular I ALWAYS have a great time, eat consistently delicious classic Italian food and sample some tasty Italian wines. The atmosphere is vibrant and happening. In winter the (real) open fire is the best in town. I don’t need anywhere else!
The previous reviews below are all over the place and maybe rightfully so. Service may be slow at times but it is a big place and if you get there at prime time on Friday you are going to wait. BYO and relax.
But the food is NOT the problem. This is as close to real (Calabrese) Italian as I have found in NZ. Thin crust pizza (could be even thinner), robust tomato sauce on the pizza, spicy Italian sausage and pancetta. Ask for your pizza “crispy” and the crust will really stand out as it should.
Pasta is served “al dente” and the sauces I have had are authentic Tuscan and southern Italian. Prices are about as they should be and the wine list is adequate.
Highly recommended.

Every time we visit Dunedin we make a point of dining at Etrusco. The food is great and very reasonably priced, (a must have is the Hot Fudge Sundae). They have an extensive wine list with lots of my favourite Italian and Central Otago reds. The atmosphere is very welcoming, with a friendly greeting at the door and a lovely open fire with couches to lounge on until a table becomes available.
What a terrible night, one night in Dunedin and we ended up here, the rude guy at the door started the night, seated we had the worst bread I have ever had and then the mains which were very basic about 3 pieces of pancetta we then sat there for an hour and waited for dessert that we had ordered which never came, the service was terrible and I would never go back, the food tasted like it could have been from the supermarket, the building is FANTASTIC went at 7pm left at 10.30pm hungry and miserable. Worst night I have had in years, I travel all the time and I have never written a review before.

We are regular visitors to Dunedin and always look forward to dining out at Etrusco. The restaurant decor and atmosphere is always fantastic, as is the broad range of pasta and pizza dishes we can choose from. The BEST pizza bases and pasta sauces anywhere!! These are complemented by an excellent wine list which is reasonably priced. Friendly and welcoming staff make dining out here a pleasure

Dined here 11 Dec 2010. What a shambles. This was a graduation dinner at table 12. There were so many tables jammed into the place you could barely move. The food was very sparse and at $30 a head was an embarrassment for invited guests. In at 6 out asap to allow the next group in. Even getting out was a nightmare. My recommendation. Don’t be greedy. These young people are graduating, their parents are proud and want to do them proud. You let an awful lot of people down.
On a positive note the staff were fantastic and how you still have any working for you I do not know.

My husband and I have eaten here frequently over the past four years and continue to be impressed with both the food and the service (which has always been great for us). The wine selection is amazing and the staff and even owners are happy to help you pick something out to match your food.
The only negative is the set menu for groups of over ten people as the food is chosen by the chef – meaning you end up paying more for a meal you would not have necessarily chosen yourself.
I especially recommend the Penne al Verde and the Carbonara!

I love it here. I’ve been at least half a dozen times in the past 18 months and each time it has been superb. The atmosphere and ambiance is second to none, the whole place is warm and filled with delicious smells and we are always taken care of very well. The service is good. The wait staff are not over pretentious and on numerous occasions the host has been there wishing us a good evening and ensuring our meals were aright.
I would not hesitate to go back!

I regularly eat at Etruscos for birthdays or special occasions. My review is a mixed one as i also agree about the wait time. we often wait for hours but as we know the food is very good, especially the vegetarian food, we wait patiently and enjoy the atmosphere. Pricing is good and there is a great range of items. but yes please if the manager is reading this you do need to work on wait time!!

I have dined here many times for birthdays, graduations etc. The interior is absolutely beautiful, lovely atmosphere (sometimes it can be very noisy especially around graduation.)
I recommend trying a flatbread/garlic bread-the various flatbreads are really well seasoned and delicious. The pizza is good and the dessert drinks are a treat too.
The last few times I have been I have noticed a longer wait time when waiting for menus or drinks etc. I think this is a real shame and I hope management sorts it out soon

Food was nice, but cold. Service was also a tad cold.
I have been to Etrusco 3 times and unfortunately they were all unsatisfactory for the price that the dishes were charged. The food always took a long time to be served and was tasteless. There wasnt enough sauce and tasted like packet pasta that i could have bought from the supermarket.
And there was a hair in the pasta on the third visit
Very disappointing in general. The positive things about the restaurant is the atmosphere and interior.

The food and the surroundings from a time past are the redeeming features of this place,as the service is just not up to scratch. PLEASE: get the food out in a reasonable time, PLEASE come and take the wine order: PLEASE drop your attitude at the front door….PLEASE don’t treat the customers as if they are a nuisance rather than being your reason for being employed……

It has been a little from column a and a little from column b for me and my wife. We have been there on several occasions because the food has always been very good with very healthy servings, however the service IS NOT to be desired. Every time we go in we are normally seated straight away…good however, it often takes 20 mins for a menu to arrive and then we have to flag someone down because we have been forgotten about. Food arrives late but is good. Service has been bad 80-90% of the times we have been. However if you have patience the food is almost worth the wait.

On our anniversary we went to order a drink, was told to sit down and someone will come over. We waited and waited, went back to the bar and was told the same thing. It took about 40 mins to get a drink. We waited for 1 1/2 hours and no one served us for food. People arrived after us had been served. We leaft in digust. This place had terrible service.

My family meal here was ruined by lousy service. Our main meal took 1 hour 36minutes to come. The staff were poorly trained and, while we got an apology personally from our waitress, the service and communication were poor. The duty manager gave us a discount, but seemed uninterested in us and the service his clients were provided.
The food was tasty rather than anything special. Wine recommendation was excellent.

I have dined at Etrusco many times and have found both the service and the food to be excellent every time. The pasta comes in generous serving sizes and the pizza is absolutely delicious. Would recommend to all

Me and a friend arrived about 6pm on a Tuesday night and were seat pretty quickly, 15 MINUTES LATER someone came and took the extra cutlery and glasses off the table and left us with one glass only to share between the two of us!! We waited another 15 minutes for our menus (which never came) all whilst other people were walking in off the street just like we had and being seated right away and menus being handed straight to them!! Appalling service and shall never ever willingly try and eat there again!!!!!

We waited 15 minutes until someone came to our table. The waitress took the glasses off the table, leaving us one glass to share between the two of us. We waited for another 15 minutes, without menus, while other people came in and got served. First time I ever walked out of a restaurant.

I’ve been to this restaurant about 4 or 5 times now and love it every time. The food is great and very reasonably priced, doesn’t break the bank, always a terrific atmosphere here, staff are always very friendly and efficient and decor-wise, it’s quite possibly the most beautiful restaurant in Dunedin. Always highly recommended for a relaxing, fun night out

I love it here, the staff are so friendly and professional the food is delicous and they will adapt the pizza’s to how you would like it if you want to add extra! Great place

We waited a LONG time to get any type of service after being seated, and it took around 2 hours for our meals to arrive. For pizza and pasta I thought this was shocking. Food ended up being average. Would never go back.
I enjoyed dining at Etrusco. The food was excellent and there was a wide range of pasta and pizza to choose from. With a set drinks menu or BYO, Etrusco cater to the individual diner’s wants. The atmosphere was also lovely and I particularly enjoyed the live pianist.

Food was good. Staff was lacking – it took 30 min.to take drink orders and 2 hours to get our food.
