A very good indian takeaway, and one of the best of the genre in Havelock North. Meals have always been consistently good and the price is competitive compared to others in the general area.
This was undoubtedly the worst take away curry that I have bought. I had just moved to the Havelock North area and decided to try out this curry house as this is my favourite food. I am sadly disappointed that this seems to be my local takeaway, which I shall never use again.
My wife and I paid over $50 for two take away curries with boiled rice and a Palik Paneer to share with Onion Bhajees and a Peshwari Naan.
The Bhajees were burnt and were difficult to cut. These were probably the best tasting part of the meal though. They came with no salad whatsoever and a small weird tasting liquid that tasted like sweet vinegar.
The Peshwari Naan should have coconut inside but instead had green and red sweet jellies (angelica)with cherry and raw raisins! Bizarre!
However, the worst part of the meal had to be the curries. My wife had a Chicken Korma and the sauce was so watery it needed the boiled rice to soak up the residue. The so called ‘curry’ had no flavour and the chicken was fatty with no decent pieces of meat at all.
I had the lamb madras. The lamb was OK, but the sauce was again very watery and had no taste. The curries were in fact very similar in having little to taste and the same colour (sort of orangey brown). The only difference being that mine had a small amount of heat from the chili powder. There were no signs of added spices or other ingredients such as nice pieces of onion, tomato etc.
The curries didn’t even come close to supermarket jars of curry sauce and this was by no way worth anywhere near $50 and we feel totally ripped off. I will never go here again.
Apparently they have been in business since 2004! Goodness knows how.
You have been warned.
