7 Reviews for Flax Cafe
My daughter and I visited Flax cafe for lunch and I wanted a light gluten-free snack. The manager offered to make me a toasted gluten-free sandwich. It was delicious (ham and cheese) and served with a small dish of tomato relish. Service was friendly, polite and fast. I will definitely call again.
I liked the old leather couches and coffee table where we sat – the only problem was it was by the door and so go cold legs from the draughts under the door.

Saw the reviews, we went just after lunch, food was great and happy to accomodate for childs menu. Like any cafe you would expect it to be busy at lunch time. Go and try it for yourself.

Really interesting reading the other reviews: I completely agree with them. A couple years back Flax Cafe was really nice (great food, service and coffee), but it must have changed hands somewhere along the line.
We used to go quite frequently but now the service is terrible: they come across as unhelpful and uninterested. The food takes too long to come out and isn’t consistent. The coffee’s still ok, but that’s not enough to keep us as loyal customers. There’s plenty of other, better cafe’s in Petone.

Pretty average experience.
After we had moved the tables ourselves so we could sit together, we sat. I was a little annoyed considering there was one person at a table for five. I don’t mind there being one person at a table for five, I just get really p****d when I then have to set up my own table. There were three tables for two, I would’ve thought they could’ve asked the person to move or set up a table for us.
The staff gathered around out the back talking while we waited. This was ok (the table setting up business excepted), we’d already ordered and were waiting for our food. Obviously they were all busy working on our plates making them perfect while chatting. No, we were wrong.
There were three of us. One ordered pasta, two the schnitzel. The pasta rated an ok, not great, but you didn’t want to vomit either, very much in the middle. Now the schnitzel was a different story, very nice. However, it was like Mission Impossible trying to find it on the plate. It made me feel like George W. Bush looking for nuclear weapons in Iraq. Where, where, WHERE?! I’m sure the other customers could feel my desperation in the air. Half a plate of salad, a few wedges and then the smallest piece of meat I’ve seen in a very long time. We were insulted to have been charged $17.50 for these token “meals”. We left hungry, very hungry.
We would never go here again. Value for money is non-existant. Customer service – they’ve never heard the phrase.
PS: At least we know why they gathered out the back, they were looking for the meat too!

Shocking – the food was tasteless and cold – again! We used to enjoy this cafe however twice now it has let us down with cold food – never again!

Yummy food and delicious smoothies with interesting taste combinations. Love the range of freshly squeezed juices available.
