Very very disappointed. Lots of hype about this place and while we enjoyed the food (my husband tried the muttonbird – it was moist and delicious), my fish was OK but the service was dismal – from start to finish it was appalling. And as no one asked we didn’t say so at the time but did email with our feedback- guess what – no acknowledgement of that either.

We have eaten here and have been greatly disappointed. On one occasion my husband and I went out of our way to visit for a lunchtime meal. We didn’t rate the individual fish dishes we chose. However I did enjoy the sauce on mine but the fish was overcooked and the four clams I received was sparse to say the least. My husband, who is a true gentlemen and does not often complain commented the fish we catch and cook is three fold better than Fleurs Place and that a nice sauce doesn’t make a great fish dish! Prices were top end for what we got and don’t ask for water at the table unless you feel like paying $4 for a small plastic bottle worth $1 at the supermarket. Come on – paying for water at the table in Southern NZ?? I don’t think so! Service was really average too, I had to ask the waitress for my cutlery after the plate was served and she was heading away again. Speaking to many others who have gone for the Fleurs experience I hear many bad reviews. Even the locals when asked have negative reports of their food and service and don’t recommend it there.
The wedding she almost wrecked for the Sydney couple takes some beating though. If they don’t want the business they should say so. Paying customers deserve value for money and a service to make this a place somewhere they wish to return too. Thumbs down Fleur, get it right with your Oamaru venture. I don’t rate this place even though the setting is very cool.

One of those special restaurants in a unique part of the world. Views to die for and a building made from recycled goods. It offers a cosy atmosphere. The food is always the highlight – well presented and priced just right. I have always had a chat with Fleur. Staff have been friendly and knowledgeable and have a great sense of humour. Highly recommended. not to be missed. Something special

I don’t often leave poor reviews and it’s a shame to leave one for Fleur’s as I’ve had 1 fantastic visit there, 1 average visit, and one extremely bad one. Unfortunatley the bad one was an anniversary dinner (Dec, 5 2010). The problem isn’t the food (it is ALWAYS lovely), but the waitress who served us. I cannot give her name because she never introduced herself, nor did she even so much as acknowledge our orders. She simply wasn’t pleasant at all, knew nothing about the questions we had of the menu and basically threw our dessert menus on the table and walked away. I have recommended this place to SEVERAL people in the past, and it was my partner’s first experience here, but I will not be returning

Great place, would and do recommend, well worth the drive. Prices are realistic, food servings are large, have been five times now and will continue to return. Staff are polite and friendly, host is warm and welcoming. Fluers place has its own style which sets it apart from any other restaurant or cafe between Dunedin and Oamaru.

Have had 5 visits now and mixed results with the food and premises. The overcrowded and rustic appeal does fade as the visits mount. Sitting next to drafty doors and windows was more than slightly distracting in the midst of winter. Food on first visit was great, mixed results since then. Last visit in November was too claustrophobic with our group of 10 crammed on to a table for 6, then moved to a larger one when other groups had moved on. We had booked so this should have been avoided. These sorts of events can only be passed off as charmingly rustic once, twice at most, however has happened to us almost every time. Wine list is great and reasonably priced. Would recommend as a drop in on a trip for lunch, and as a destination for a rustic dining experience, but not too often. Is trading heavily on Rick Stein and Gwyneth Paltrows visits, they only ate there once, and so perhaps should other before the novelty wears off.

This is a great restaurant. My husband and I go there pretty much every year for our wedding anniversary.

The food is gorgeous: fresh as fish, the most divine mussels, scrumptious deserts….

If you want the best seafood and atmosphere then this the place to go. Seaside dining at it’s finest with a rustic homely atmosphere. Food is quite simply superb, with freshly caught sea delights cooked and served with the freshest of regional accompanyments. Muttonbirds also available for those who appreciate good natural food!
