Floriditas has become our regular Saturday post-run eggs location for many reasons, including:
1) We always seem to time it right so we don’t have to wait more than 5 minutes for a table
2) The poached eggs with vine tomato salad, on their house-baked grain bread is always perfect
3) The coffee is fast to arrive and good. The one time it wasn’t quite right (a rarity), the waitress noticed we weren’t drinking it and replacements to made
4) Water is refilled without us even blinking – as soon as our glasses are empty, it is refuelled
5) The staff are friendly, efficient, and organised.

It is a relaxing environment, busy but not packed. I’ve also had the roasted baby beetroot, Serrano ham, shaved goats cheese watercress & black olives salad, which is fantastic, and goes well with fries!!

this is my ‘local’ coffee place. I have never dined here, but have been here for brunch and coffee/dessert on several occasions.

Service is very good. Dessert menu changes regularly. They have a good selection of wines and teas if you are not into coffee. Their chocolate truffles and chocolate fruit cake are to die for…

They seem to be open till quite late.

Definitely recommend this place.

A business colleague and I dined midweek after arriving in Wellington on an evening flight and looking for a meal in close proximity to our hotel. In a strange city it’s always a good idea to tap into the local knowledge and look an establishment which is doing a good trade. It worked in this instance. We both chose pasta dishes; in my case the baby clam selection. I really couldn’t fault it as the dish wouldn’t have been out of place in one of the higher class specialist Italian restaurants. Our waitress was pleasant and helpful, too. We both found the small print on the menu a little hard to read, however our waitress quickly complied with my colleague’s half joking request for a magnifying glass. Seems such requests are not uncommon.

Really disappointed by service and treatment in Floriditas this morning. This is my Go To place for business lunch, romantic dinners with hubby and family treat Sunday dinners. A quick look through my accounts and have spent well over $2k there this year. So with cherubs and hubby out of town I headed down for breakfast. Waited patiently to be served while other patrons pushed past and grabbed the free tables. Shown a dark corner table beside what looked like the fire exit….no apology or “we’ll get you a better table when one is free.” Asked to be seated somewhere else, was popped onto the end of a large table “until something else came free” and left perched there. Poached eggs disappointing and plain. Bald Maitre D (who tried to put my in corner) totalled my account. No discussion. No apology. Wouldn’t be recommending anymore.

I wanted to give this a 4 star but it didn’t quite make it because of the service. I came in with my brother for breakfast, both dressed casual and felt as if we shouldn’t be there by particular staff. If the barista can’t put a smile on her face and talk nicely she should stay behind the coffee machine. Food was very nice. LOVED the nice thick 5 grain toast with my scrambled eggs and salmon. Will love to come back for dinner. But will make sure I’m not dressed in jeans and a jersey next time and hope to be treated with a bit more respect.
Food – exceptional.
Service – needs to be tweaked.

Had absolutely amazing service and food here, was very surprised, in a good way! Hadn’t been before but will definitely be back. Better than a lot of the top rated restaurants of Wellington. The waitress was excellent, made great recommendations, and was friendly and attentive. The fish was outstanding. Didn’t have dessert this time (due to time restrictions) but menu looked great. Can’t wait to go back!

I adore this place. I have been here multiple times now for both Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner and I have been enthralled each time. The staff are lovely and the food is as close as Wellington gets to amazing fine dining. Would recommend this place to anyone. Especially in love with the homemade ice-cream!

Food was good, but was completely thrown by the bill.
They charged us a ‘cake-age’, $8 a cake (two birthdays happening on same day, thus two cakes). Don’t know if this is professional standard at restaurants, but it shouldn’t be.
We spent hours of our own time on those cakes. Then we get charged $8 for each (on top of the money we already spent on the blimmin cakes). Ridiculous.

My friend and I went for lunch on a weekday. We were casually dressed as we are both on holiday. Although not busy the front of house staff were unfriendly and distracted.

The food quality was fine but portions extremely small. I know food costs are high but it felt a bit like rations. Coffee was very average. Olive cafe across the way is streets ahead for coffee.

We went to Floriditas over the new year, mostly on the back of reviews posted here. We were extremely disappointed. The building itself is superb, wonderful surroundings for an eating establishment and right in the middle of one of the coolest parts of Wellington. Unfortunately the dining failed to match the decor. It was clearly busy at lunchtime, but we didn’t feel all that welcomed by a slightly miserable looking member of staff. We ordered chorizo, tomato and thyme soup. This seemed to consist mostly of some veg, a tin of chopped tomatoes and some thyme. The chorizo was conspicuous by its absence. The coffee was OK but a glass of lemonade failed to appear, despite a polite enquiry as to its whereabouts.
Overall left being totally underwhelmed by the experience. We are massive fans of Fidels up the road. The surroundings are no match for Floriditas, but this is more than made up for by the excellent food and warm and helpful staff that one invariably finds there.

For years I adored Floriditas. I recommended it to a lot of people etc…

But unfortunately, the last 2 times I visited it was super average.

The first I had the fish of the day. Pretty bland and ordinary. But I thought I possibly ordered wrong.

But I have loved Floriditas for so long I was like “hey, just one bad night ain’t that bad!”.

So my partner and I went again during the world cup. I ordered the chicken with fennel salad, and it was super average. Like seriously, I could have made it. The ends of the breast had totally dried out. My partners meal was also average. He had the pork chop and it was very ‘mehhh’…

I totally love floriditas, the atmosphere, services etc. I love the small seasonal menu concept they have….But I really like good food too!!! And the few times I go out I want a stunning meal! It’s a shame because patrons are pretty fickle and a couple of bad meals and I am sad to give them a 2 star rating…

I am a fan. Fell in love with this place when I had a girls weekend in Wellington recently. What’s not to love about the decor (old style italianate, tiles, high ceilings), and the beautiful big picture windows which let the sun flood in. We went for brunch & enjoyed the hustle & bustle of the place. Service was prompt, food was great, coffee was good, and the naughty but delicious cupcakes with the second round of coffee really were THE BEST! Recommended for brunch. Must try dinner here next time I’m in Welly.

Great service received by multiple wait staff.

Tried the Wellington on a plate set menu and was disappointed with the wine on offer

The wine was a selection of Nga Waka varieties and none of the 3 tasted were very good.

Food was prompt and tasty with the exception of Baked Vanilla ricotta dessert, which was left unfinished.

Overall – recommended, but steer clear of Nga Waka wines!

I had only ever heard good reviews about this restaurant so was anticipating an enjoyable dining experience. However sadly this was not the case. Food is overpriced for what is given.
Menu selection was disappointing.
Meals were not as described on the menu – watercress became pea tendrils.
Service can best be described as brisk. There are better places in Wellington than this, we won’t be returning.

Floriditas gets extremely busy on Saturday nights and we were lucky to grab a table for six. The decor and atmosphere is elegant and inviting at any time of the day (I’ve brunched in the sun at Floriditas many times), although with such a full house the noise levels make it very difficult to carry out a normal conversation. The service throughout our meal was excellent; attentive, efficient (our water glasses were regularly refilled) and very pleasant. Our group started off by sharing a selection of cheddar and parmesan sticks, olives and risotto balls (as good as ever). We were very impressed with our main meals; I had lamb skewers with a radish and fennel salad – a very tasty combination. I can highly recommend the dark chocolate tart with cream and raspberries for dessert – yum!

The first thing that Im going to say is that floriditas is DIVINE. We (my family) go on a regular basis and every time we have been served promptly and been very satisfied with the food, ( yes and even the main critics, the kids!. The poached eggs on ciabatta with bacon are definately a favourite! The bacon is crispy and has a rich, smokey flavour (the way it should be!) and the eggs are always cooked to perfection. This goes perfectly with the crunchy ciabatta toast. Floriditas gets everything right in our book and keeps us coming back.

Great decor to start with! Very classy feel the minute you walk in with little details all over the place. We only had dessert and tea the first time we went there, which were heavenly and not your normal dessert affair! Went there a few more times, service and food remained awesome.

Pleasantly surprised when the waitress could remember me and my order on my second visit about a month apart! Talk about exceptional service!

I always enjoy the food and coffee at Floriditas but I don’t go as often as I would because I find the staff unpleasant. There are a couple of exceptions to this but for the most part I always walk away wondering why I bothered paying money to be treated rudely!

I love Floriditas in Cuba St, have been twice recently and enjoyed the food and style of the place immensely.

Thursday this week was a cold and wet typical Wellington day, with this the big bowl of ham and split pea soup was ordered together with crusty bread and a meat loaf bap for my companion. Simple and perfectly hitting the lunch time pleasure place.

This European style cafe has become an institution for Wellingtonians and now this Aucklander.

I dine at Floriditas on a regular basis and have done since it opened! I find the staff here absolutely amazing! And the food (I have eaten breakfast, brunch, lunch & dinner) is always delicious!
Over the countless times i have visited Floriditas (and i’m talking around 50 times i have been) I have NEVER had a bad experience with the food, drink or staff!
My only disappointment was going there for lunch yesterday & being told they no longer do brunch menu during the week, so i couldn’t get poached eggs on toast that i was craving!
Would highly recommend this restaurant – and will definitely be visiting again soon!

Try the vegetarian risotto with feta….awesome! I hope it’s still there when I go back!
The only thing that was a little annoying was at how close the tables are together…only just enough room to squeeze through to get to your seat, so not much privacy being so close to your neighbours. Also, when this place is busy, it gets very loud! If you can handle that – no worries, tis worth putting up with that to have the risotto!

I went to Floriditas last night for dinner. An hour after ordering I received a bone dry chicken breast with about a tablespoon of polenta hiding beneath it. The chicken was so dry it was barely chewable. It truly was one of the worst meals I have experienced dining out.

My partner and I had dinner here & it was superb. We’re both vegetarian & the mains menu was a bit limited for us, but it was seriously good food. The service was excellent & timely despite being very busy & the food was to die for, expecially the buffalo mozzarella entree. Wait staff were efficient and helpful.

We had been here for breakfast before. We had eggs benny with asparagus which was a good solid eggs benny. So we decided to test their dinner menu out.
We ordered a broth for starters and snapper and grilled herb lamb for mains. The broth was actually terrible, it was like water from boiled veges and then sprinkled some salt/pepper on top. The Snapper was decent but the lamb was very frustrating. The lamb was rolled in parsley, where as, if I don’t cut the meat, I actually can’t see the meat. The meat was also bone dry, so I called the waitress over. I told her my displeasures and she said that that was how the lamb came and it is one of their most popular dishes. She told me she would not refund my money and if I ordered another main I would have to pay for the lamb. I paid for the bad broth and decent snapper and refused to pay for the lamb. I walked out unhappy and hungry. Would not go again.

My wife and I came in for breakfast, I wish I could have reviewed the food but unfortunately I never actually got to eat any.

I have worked and dined at numerous restaurants around the world and this was possibly the worst service I have ever received. We were seated right in front of the waiters station and after 15mins had not been acknowledged in any way or even received a menu. The restaurant was less than 1/4 full so it was not exactly busy and the waiter definitely knew we were there but decided to ignore our table.

There are so many other great restaurants in Wellington this is definitely one I would not recommend any time soon. The sad thing is the food probably is very good but if the front of house staff cant deliver then they are letting the kitchen down badly.

I have been to Floriditas for breakfast and dinner a number of times and absolutely recommend! Breakfast menu is beyond yummy (best scrambled eggs that I have ever had) and coffee perfect! Dinner menu is also delicious and good selection of wine and beer. They even have an Australian beer (Coopers) that I love and which is hard to get in New Zealand. Service brilliant and food excellent. GO NOW!
