Im torn how to rate burrito brothers, the staff and the margaritas are fabulous so after a terrible meal the first time around i just figured we had ordered the wrong this so returned again. This time i had been recommended from a friend for the two of us to share the $45 platter so i asked the waitress about it and she agreed it was big enough for two mains easy. It came out very quickly and we both looked at each other and said ‘is that the whole thing?’ it felt like we had just eaten an entree and not a filling one and it was tasteless. I’m gutted we made toasties when we got home. I told my friend the next day how terrible my platter was and after comparing what she got to what i got it was completely different she had hot dishes, wraps, burritos, fried chicken, all the trimmings. I got corn chips, chopped tomato, grated cheese, tub of mince, half an avocado, 5 olives, 2 squid rings, sour cream!!!??????? not sure whats going on.

I would tell anyone to stay for a margarita (not the pitcher) but defiantly book somewhere else for dinner

Not a bad meal, although we ordered a couple of things that we expected better from.
First we got some gaucamole and chips however there were very little gaucamole and the chips actually ran out before we finished our gauc!
Nice gauc however.
I also ordered nachos, and to be honest I thought id been given the wrong dish until the waitress said they were nachos!

it was nothing more than some corn chips on the side (minimal amount) and some mince with cheese on it in a bowl!!
I have had better nachos from my 14 years old daughter!!
Expensive for what you get, good atmosphere though.

I doubt we will go back unless we had to.

We went to the Flying Burrito Brothers with high expectations, but we were sadly let down!
Whilst the atmosphere was good, and lively the service and food and prices were very average to say the least.
We had our orders (6 people dinning) taken and they messed them up, understandable though I wont harp on to much about that as these things happen. we then recieve the food and 2 of the 6 meals are cold. One meal had half a small container of bland rice and half a container of beans that were hard!
We decided to push ahead and eat the meals as there was zero guareentee we would get hot food anyway!
we decided to order a pitcher of margaritas as we had been recommended them. well a small (approx 500ml) pitcher comes out, tasted ok but very little alcohol and we were charged $30 for it! After that we left and told the waitress about our evening and she seemed interested but it was out of her hands and she would get the manager. After a few minutes of waiting for him he didnt show we paid and then left. A poor experience indeed! I wouldnt recommend this place, maybe it was just a bad night to go on, but still its not acceptable for a big restaurant. Might just stick with the Mexican cafe next time.

Went here in May 2010, was really good. Loved the food and the drinks, thought it was reasonably prices, and would definitely go back. The wait staff could improve a little. Rung up previously and told you could not book tables, arrived to be told we would have to wait an hour or so as we had not booked a table. Was worth the wait though.

Went to Burrito Brothers for dinner with a friend on a Monday night. For a Monday night the place was reasonably busy. The food was excellent and we had very helpful and friendly service. My friend had the enchiladas and i had the tacos. Both of us thought each of our dishes were very tasty and fulfilling. All in all we had a great night out and i highly recommend The Flying Burrito Brothers.

I recently dined at this restaurant for my girlfriends birthday. A group booking for eight of us on a Wednesday night. Our total bill, dinner & drinks came to approximately $300 and attempts were made to charge a ‘cakeage fee’! A $10 fee for bringing in a birthday cake. After a lengthy debate with rather rude member of staff and agreeing that dessert would be ordered this was finally wiped. Margarita’s ordered from the bar were fine but beware the pitchers of margarita on the drinks menu, these are $23, small (approx 500mls) and taste like they contain virtually no alcohol.

Being Mexican (born and bred) and now living here, I was really excited to find a Mexican restaurant in Christchurch that actually serves Mexican food and not Tex-Mex wannabe food. It is the most authentic restaurant I’ve been to here, the decor is almost like being back home and the atmosphere is great. Granted, it is a bit noisy, but then again, us Mexicans are noisy people!:0)

Flying Burrito caught my attention first because of its name. While I was visiting Christchurch me and my host family decided to have a dinner there one friday night. The place was busy. Ambience grat and food was really fun and enjoyable. The table was a little small for us but we did well, and loved every bit. Will be back when I am Christchurch next.

Went to Burrito Bros with a few friends on a Saturday night. What a great atmosphere. We were looked after from the moment we walked in the door until the moment we left. The place was full of people but not so much that it was uncomfortable. The food was excellent and great value for money. You have got to try the Fajitas! The service was fast and friendly. I highly recommend the classic Margaretta’s, easily the best in town. I cant wait to go back again.

Very lively place with pleasant staff, but the food was very disappointing. Sizzling platters at the next table caused our eyes to water (not our mouths). Mexican food is simple and easy to make, so why didn’t it taste good. Prices are too high.

What an amazing night we had for my daughters 16th birthday. Lauren was made feel extremely special – the two waitresses we had were just great – very knowledgeable about the food and truly made Lauren feel she was the most important person in Christchurch. The food, service, atmosphere was ten out of ten. Thanks heaps.
PS – it was so good I bought both waitresses a drink (something I very rarely do).

We have been here twice hoping the first time was a fluke. Unfortunately it wasn’t. This is a very loud, I repeat VERY loud environment to eat in, and the food quality is just lacking horribly. We will not return here again. To their defense, I find many restaurants in chch to be in the same boat. Coyote is the only Mexican restaurant I will return to after having eaten there. Havent tried Headless in Sumner. I know good mexican food. U.S. citizen now a kiwi.

Inedible – I ordered a chicken burrito which was literally chicken from a can put on a tortilla and heated up – it was dry and tasted like cat food so I didn’t make it past my second bite. Not one person asked us how our meal was or I would have been honest with them. This place has great ambiance and horrible food

We approached the Restaurant with enthusiasm as we were hungry after a long trip into Christchurch. A little concerned that we were forgotten at the bar when the staff were obviously not busy. Our waitress was lovely and very helpful and knew the menu well, thank goodness. Why make it so much hard work to order food with a hard to read and confusing menu? Why does a menu have to have a glossary when the food is only pretending to be authentic Mexican!!! Junk food processed corn chips and tortillas. A waste of time and although the food we were recommended to order was nice I did feel as if we had been ripped off. I’m sure all the other good reviewers had fun after a few Margaritas, they should sober up for the reality check.

I have to say anyone who put Curry or Sesame seed in any type of Mexican food does not know what they are doing. Service was really slow and the food below average.

We’re originally from So Cal, so we are tough Mex food critics! The meal was definitely not authentic Mexican, although it was tasty nonetheless. The staff was friendly, albeit slow, slow service was a drawback. The margaritas were better than elsewhere we’ve had in Chch. Overall good, just not great.

We were visiting from the U.S. in April and happened by this restaurant while walking in downtown Christchurch. We were very happy to find a Mexican restaurant in NZ as there didn’t seem to be many of them (at least not what we could find during our visit) and we love Mexican/Central American food. We are used to a good variety of excellent Mexican restaurants in our hometown and looked forward to a nice meal. What we didn’t expect was to have one of the best meals both of us agreed we had ever had. We wanted to lick the plate!! And fantastic tequila drinks too! This was truly an amazing meal. Is there a better Mexican restaurant in NZ? Because if there is we want to go there on our next visit. My only disappointment is that there isn’t one in Auckland ;)

Hi, I went to the flying burrito brothers last Friday night,it was the first time i have been there, all i can say is wow!.What a restaurant,it was so busy,me and my friend waited at the bar for half an hour, and we had one of those margarita’s,it was one of the best Ive ever had. When we got to our table we order the cheese dip, this stuff is to die for, Then i order a chicken sizzling thing, its was a bit to big for me, the presentation was fantastic.my only complaint is that we had to much to eat.great restaurant.

I went there for my 21st dinner with my family it was the first and last time I’m going to the burrito bothers. The lighting was so poor that many couldn’t read their menus or properly inspect their meals, the staff admitted this was bad but couldn’t do any thing to help. The atmosphere just wasn’t there, it didn’t feel like a Mexican restaurant and the menu was overcomplicated (I used my phone to read it). I gave it a really low star because I informed some friends afterward about it and they said it’s always that bad.

we ate here for my Daughters 11th Birthday
The food was excellent the service was great and the margarittas were amazing
The only complaint I have is the tables were to small to hold the generous servings we were given.
Olivia received a free T Shirt which has ensured we will be back for my sons birthday in December

Down from Akld for work I came across The Flying Burrito Brothers while I was walking through town and thought it looked like my kind of place. I went for dinner that night and I loved it! The food is the best Mexican I’ve ever had, the tequila range is amazing and the friendly service made it even better. So good I went back for dinner two nights running. I’ll definitely be back again. Thanks guys!

I had my birthday dinner with 14 of my friends at FBB’s and we had the best of nights. All my friends have contacted me saying they had the best of time and that they loved the food and service. Ruby looked after us and she was awesome!! We were totally looked after and I definitely recommend this restaurant for get togethers with your mates and family. I will definitely be back. Thanks to the FBB team for making my night one that I will always remember with great memories. Cheers to you all!!

We (4 of us) dined here tonight from 4.30-7.00pm and had a wonderful time. The service was friendly and fantastic. The food came out nice and quickly (we asked for that as one had to leave) and we were left to finish our drinks and food.
Fabulous and I will be back for sure. Thanks

I’m addicted to the Quesadilla de Pollo : ] … I do wish they took a wee bit longer to make the meals, when we go for girl nights, it doesn’t give us much of a chit chat, then we feel rude when we’re just sitting around talking afterwards. But great service, great drinks : ]

The food is terrific, but the service is bad. If you are dining too long the serving people will say you aren’t allowed to order a next drink or some ice cream to finish your dinner. But you have to pay. Bummer.

Excellent meal. I thoroughly recommend the Ceviche Yucatain. My husband would not usually have touched raw fish but this was one of the most enjoyable meals we have had in a long time. There were options for diners who like it very hot and also for the meeker of us who prefer our taste buds remaining intact. The service was attentive and friendly and we will be returning with friends to try the marguerita’s suggested to us.
