When visiting Nelson last year I dined at Fords, only days after they opened. The atmosphere of the restaurant and the exellent food and service on that visit had me returning again this year when I visited Nelson again. On several visits to Ford’s we had wonderful food, fantastic service and great coffee. We’ll be back.
Went here with my partner on our last night in nelson after reading bad reviews of our previous restaurant choice and good ones for Ford’s. So glad to have followed the lead of previous reviewers!
The food was truly delicious – salt and pepper squid / thai mussels for starter, followed by a fish of the day and the parpadelle. All this went very well with a bottle of local Seifreid estate Sauvignon blanc. Lovely balance of flavours and textures. Dessert was a tiramisu (rated by my SO as the best in NZ so far) and pistachio ice cream profiteroles with melted chocolate sauce. A very good coffee (they do decaf!) finished the evening off perfectly.
The service was good without being suffocating and I was even given insect repellent when local bugs started having their dinner!
All in all a memorable experience for all the good reasons.
Will definitely come here again our next time in Nelson.

Came in with family members for dinner. Ordered the eye fillet steak, which was cooked to perfection. The service was attentive. Will definitely be eating there again

Lovely people lovely place. Ended up here with a quite shocking hangover. The ladies that served did a wonderful job. Plenty of strong coffee and sirloin, eggs & hash browns for breakfast. The sirloin was beautifully cooked, bulging and full of juices. I can’t understand why more people don’t offer this combo for breakfast it’s brilliant!!!
Next time I am in Nelson I’ll be going back.
