I dined alone at Fusion this evening at 7-30. There were two waiting staff, a female (whom I shall refer to as the waitress), and a male (the waiter). I was seated by the waitress, who gave me the menu and I accepted her thoughtful offer of some reading material. The waiter arrived soon after and asked if he could take my order (which I gave to him) and if I would like to order a drink. I ordered a non-alcoholic drink. A perfectly acceptable 20-25 minutes later, the waitress delivered my food and asked if I would like to order a drink. When I told her I had already ordered one at the time I had ordered my meal, she went off and returned with the drink which I really had wanted before, rather than with, my meal. To her credit, she did say “Sorry about that”. The cajun chicken dish was exceptionally good – tender and tasty, served with salsa and a Caesar-type salad. However, to my surprise, when I was part way through eating it, a new group of diners arrived at a nearby table and the waiter (yes, the same one who had taken my order, and who had failed to deliver my drink), proceeded to describe the specials to them, something he had completely neglected to do for me. No problem with this young man’s manner – he was very pleasant, but one major mistake is foregiveable while two is not. The wait staff weren’t exactly rushed off their feet, as there were only three tables occupied when I arrived. In summary, the food couldn’t be faulted, but one half of the wait staff was incompetent, albeit pleasant in manner.
Would I return? Well, there are billboards around Timaru just now boasting that there are 40 cafes to choose from, so not anytime soon, I’m afraid.

it is about time that timaru was blessed with a consistantly delicious place to eat.in the past we have taken hours to decide where to eat,now we know the answer without question is Fusion Restaurant.Great service, fabulous food.I highly recommend the cajun chicken & the pork belly is divine.i have told anyone & everyone & will definately be coming back.don’t go changing & thank u for making our normally frustrating dining experiences one that is without question-top notch

Unfortunately our dining experience was not great – my lamb was rare and raw/cold -not medium rare when pointed out they did offer to take it away and cook if further.
The service from the staff was not good – from the time we walked in the door. This is a shame as we have enjoyed great meals here in the past.

Amazing food! Good quality and very nicely presented. This place is a bit more “upscale/gourmet” with lots of interesting and creative dishes and flavors. Therefore, I don’t recommend it to picky eaters who prefer very plain food or people who are into greasy average “pub grub”. This place is definitely above average! Cook is obviously skilled and artistic. Waitresses are tidy, friendly and seem well versed in the wine menu.
Interior is cozy, intimate and very nice, with some tables overlooking the bay. Also has nice outdoor seating overlooking the bay.
Fusion is not your plain and typical restaurant….. It would be a great place to go on a special occasion and feel spoiled by the nice atmosphere and fantastic food.

Wow what amazing food!! I had the Lamb Kofta dish, the spices and flavours were absolutley stunning everything worked together perfectly definitely on par with top restaurants in Wellington.
Anyone who would not enjoy the food there is obviously after pub grub! Perhaps Mike would be better off at MacD’s.

Perhaps the full name for this place could be CONfusion. I had the steak which comes with so many different flavours on the plate it is very much a taste confusion. The meat was overcooked and to add insult to injury having refused a twist of the ridiculously over-sized pepper grinder the waitress went ahead anyway. When I pointed out I said no thanks she giggled an apology and then loudly told the only other person in the place- the other waitress what she’d -done still giggling! No replacement offered and full price charged. My companion had a vegetarian option but didn’t enjoy it either. It seemed again to be a mishmash of unbalanced flavours. Fortunately there is a restaurant next door with a better view of the bay and we adjourned there for desserts and coffee.Sorry to say nothing award winning in my experience at Fusion.
