Galbraith’s food is a cut above any other New Zealand pub’s food.
At Galbraith’s you’ll enjoy reasonably priced food cooked by qualified chefs, not short-order cooks.
It’s restaurant quality food without the “I’m Timmy and I’ll be your waiter for this evening” experience.
Galbraith’s food and beer share the same philosophy.
We employ the best people and source the best ingredients. Then we treat them both with the respect they deserve. The results follow naturally.
The meat and produce is from the best suppliers in the region – and always from reputable farms. We buy our food daily so it’s always fresh. And, as you’d expect, it’s cooked to your order.
The menu at Galbraith’s offers something for everyone. Whether you want a light lunch-time snack, something to graze on with friends, or a full three-course meal, you’ll find it here.
The 1912 building that was once the Grafton Library is now home to Galbraith’s Alehouse, a classic brew-pub with a small “Real Ale” and lager brewery. The modern kitchen serves food all day – enjoy it in the spacious bar and its high vaulted ceilings, or outside in the beer garden. The outdoor fireplace keeps winter cosy and the deck is ideal for summer lounging.
Our Philosophy: Beer is as interesting and varied as wine. The Galbraith’s Alehouse team thinks brewing giants have dumbed down beer – they’ve given it mass-appeal, but stolen the flavour.
Galbraith’s Alehouse wants to bring back flavour to beer …

Great beer and sumptuous food – the Welsh rarebit I had was my favourite meal of the year.
