Dined at Galleon a few weeks ago while in Oamaru overnight for work. Ordered the “Roast of the Day”, which was pork. Plate with meat only delivered to table – diner to take vegetables from the buffet. Full range of veg unavailable – run out of some. Pork obviously sliced from cold piece and slices heated in microwave. Disgusting! Surely anyone knows reheated pork tastes ghastly? Roast of the Day was obviously the Roast of Yesterday – or earlier! Queried when paying and lady at checkout confirmed it hadn’t been roasted that day. Knocked $3 off – big deal! Never again. Why am I giving it one star when it doesn’t deserve any? An excellent Christmas lunch. The food was well prepared and the options extensive. The tables were nicely presented with linen tablecloths and lit candles. It was the best function we have attended in recent years – and very good value. Our compliments to the chef and congratulations to all concerned.

Recently had the experience of dining at the Galleon for dinner (something which I haven’t done for a while).
After sitting down at the table and waiting half an hour for our entrees (i only ordered a garlic bread) they brought all the entree’s out at a different times and when I went to wipe my mouth I found a piece of chewing gum stuck in the middle of my napkin, Upon pointing this out to the person who we assumed was the manager we were told “oh you know what people are like, would you like another one” There was no apology and it just seemed to be fobbed off.
Our mains started arriving before all the entrees were finished. I have to admit the mains were very tasty, the only thing wrong was that my main was listed in the menu as “Accompanied by chips” which I did not get any at all, I assumed I was just meant to get them from the buffet which would of been better just to be told that by our waiter, not just get a burger and wonder where the chips are.
The water we were given for the table was not cold at all, it was pretty much straight out of the tap. I understand that it was a busy night and that there was a few people in the restaurant but there is no excuse for the service to be that bad. The waiters were very friendly and I felt sorry for the girl that we complained to in regards to the entrees coming early as she said it was her first day which I can understand but I feel that the service needs to be looked at as it is quite poor. I have previously been here before for a roast lunch and it was really good and a great meal it just seems to be the dinner service that is poor

We went to the Galleon Restaurant 17/07/2011 and found the service to be appalling. They forgot a meal on our table. By the time everyone had finished theirs they bought the WRONG meal out – this is after several requests. They then asked us if we minded if we took the meal in a doggy bag – this was an insult. They then tried to charge us for the wrong meal they bought out upon us leaving. We’ve been there twice before, the first time was fine, the second time they bought out an uncooked chicken schnitzel, we thought that we’d give them another go but after this last episode we unfortunately won’t be back.

Holidaying in Oamaru we decided to have dinner at the Galleon Restaurant. Big Mistake. The service started off well, but when we went to the buffet to get vegetables the were many empty dishes. We waited and waited and were eventually told that vegetables were being cooked which meant the food already on our plates was going to be cold. The Manager didn’t appear to be concerned so we left without eating, at no time did anybody apologise for the lack of food or try to rectify the situation. Never again Sadly the owner of this place is probably not aware of the problems

I was very very impressed on Valentine’s Day with the meal at the Galleon Restaurant. We had this beautiful coconut dish and it tasted better than anything we have ever tasted anywhere before! We almost felt like we were in Fiji!!
Then we had a magnificent Macco dish for desert. Really loved the meal and the service.

Recently my sister and I visited the Galleon. It was the lunchtime buffet and we had a beautiful roast (in fact it is years since I had a proper roast with all the trimmings). It was delicious and very reasonably priced. I came away very impressed and would recommend it to everyone.

Visited the galleon restaurant and had my worse dining experience ever. When we arrived we were told to pick our own table, had to wait for 20min in an empty restaurant to be served at our table. Food was far from satisfactory, I ordered salmon with pea risotto, the salmon was burnt, and they didn’t bother to send the risotto out, until I asked where it was, the staff looked at me blankly then had to refer to menu to discover their mistake. Salad came out with our meal, this must have been a few days or so old, as the tomatoes were all but mush. Risotto was finally bought out 5min after finishing my meal and was barely cooked. Lastly we had to wait for nearly 10min at the bar before we were able to pay our bill. Staff didn’t ask how our meal was, obviously they are sick of being told how bad their restaurant is. I wish I had read the rest of the comments on this site before contemplating going there. -100 star rating.

we took 4 kids and 2 adults to the complex the food was the worst i have experinced in years the service was lacking we had to wait 20min to get a drink and this was on a tuesday afternoon the food was cold and tasteless.when asked if we enjoyed our food i passed comment and felt that i was not taken serious.i have worked in hospatality for 20 years and would be ashamed to have any part of this complex the only good thing was the bowling alley.they should have negative star ratings because i would’nt even give it one more like minus 3

Shocking experience, ate at this restaurant for a week recently while away with work. Travel extensively throughout NZ with work and this was by far the worst experience I have had. The buffet veg had sat in water for far too long, the roast veg served needed to be nuked in the microwave longer as they were rock solid and the stonegrill was appalling. 1 star given as minus stars not available.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The menu was diverse with something for everyone in our group of six. The stonegrill’s are amazing they are a must try for everyone. The buffet vegetables and salad was divine. Prices were reasonable. Will defiantly be stopping in again next time we are passing through Oamaru
