Wasn’t very impressed at all. Meals are very small for the price you pay and not a lot of selection to choose from I had a chicken risotto meal was horrible and cost me a fortune obviously a bit of a fancy restaurant, not my cup of tea

Hi Jo, very sorry to hear that. Just wondering when you came in as we have not had a Chicken Risotto on the menu for at least 11 month now. Are you sure you went to The Garlic Press. By the way we have 7 starters and 10 mains to choose from. If that should not be…

Wanted to take my husband out for his birthday, so I looked on line for a restaurant with great reviews and a fantastic menu. THE GARLIC PRESS was amazing, we loved everything and can’t wait to go back, have told all our family and friends about the food and service. Well done Garlic press, we have a new favourite! We can’t wait to come back

had a lovely night out – food was fantastic and the service was excellent – drink prices a little over the top – especially the cocktails ($16 for a small martini!) however we totally enjoyed our night out. will definately be going back again

Had a walk in lunch. Just two and were the only ones. Small table next group of 4 came in and were seated right beside us. Had made a decision on the steak but was told could only have medium rare as this was how it came. Then chose the lamb and was told the same. Could not have my meat to my satisfaction. When i politely said some customers have a preference for the cooking of their meat was told “the chef has his preference too” this did not make me or my friend feel welcome or our custom important. Felt like leaving but opted for vegetarian platter. For the price we could have much better value elsewhere and choice. /won’t be going back.

Garlic bread, fried french goats cheese, antipasto, Duck, Fish, Pork, Rump steak… Creme brulee Cheese board.. Auckland lager, sauvingon, chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Port.
After possibly too much anticipation The Garlic Press failed too impress. Nearly everything stated on the menu appeared on the plate, albeit sometimes in a different manner than read. Firstly after its name sake I did expect a very good garlic bread however ours was disappointingly sans garlic, however a fine bread from one local baker I’m sure. Beetroot salad was a winner with one of our guests but 3 others found a sweet imbalance. Antipasto run of the mill. Duck breast and sauce exceptional, con-fit leg and risotto poor. Fish more than average including the under cooked sauteed vegetables, potatoes good. Rump steak happy and Pork not nearly as tender as local cafes and at home. I learnt too serve cheese at room temperature 14 years ago and that was probably the least annoying thing about the garlic press cheeseboard. One of our local guests was sold on the restaurant and was ready too call out some past advertising however the three local foodies were expecting more. Our particular wait person failed too say goodnight, however those behind the bar seemed more than happy too look after us. Ambiance not applicable.

The food was good, the Wait staff very fast. I felt a little rushed.
We were four people that walked in on a Wed evening. Their tables and chairs for walk ins are very small and uncomfortable. I suggest you book and get the better seating.
I had been told it was the best in town, but I don’t think so. I found the menu limited. I had the seafood risotto, which was very good but not something to make the toes curl.

Decent food, service and ambience, but for the price there are other options in town which live up to the money you are spending better. Was all fine but hardly memorable – apart from the bill.
2010 – After going for a working lunch, Im upgrading Garlic Press to 4 stars. Lunch menu is great and prices much friendlier than dinner. Lunches are huge and all looked delicious. Pity its a bit gloomy in there, could have the lights on and music to add a bit of atomsphere.

Loved it, loved it. Awesome food BUT BUT the price is very large for the protion sizes. Spirit drink prices really over the top. Staff were very pleasent and helpful. For a special occasion it would be awesome.

Food was great but the service staff are forgettable.
Dont enjoy a glass of wine down my back and then handed a tea towel with out an apology. The waitresses language was something to be desired. Paul the bartender was excellent but see that he no longer works there.
