We spent an enjoyable evening with lovely food. Nice to have something different and upmarket in this small town. It is even more important since Christchurch has lost all its fine dining restaurants due to the earthquake for now. Service is a tiny bit slow but friendly, lighting could be a bit better so. The food was good and cooked to our liking. The portions were quite generous with complementary salad AND fresh vegetables.
Nice touch were also the 2! different amuse-gueules, at the beginning and between entree and main course. Great value for good quality food.

Nice views and a well cooked meal make up for the fact that the lighting is so low you can’t always see what you’re eating. The menu is interesting with good clean flavours and the service although a little fussy for this millennium, is nice for a change when the staff are actually out on the floor.

Have dined here on afew occasions, had the vegetarian lasagna – think it was a special, was really good. The staff are not so friendly but the food & views make up for any downfalls.
One point to note is they are often booked out, good to call ahead & save you walking the stairs only to be disappointed, would probably be better if they just had something at the bottom of the stairs stating this

My partner and I dine at Ginger and Garlic reasonably regularly. The food is superb and the service is fantastic, and has been so every time we’ve been over the last several years.
We’ve tried most everywhere else in town for a change but persistently come back to Ginger and Garlic as nothing else compares.
I can’t recommend it highly enough, by far the best restaurant in Timaru.

If you are looking for pretentious service presented in a 1990 European style but with sadly lacking quality then this is the place for you. It is the only place I have had the privilege of being served mouldy food, but worse still when I complained they removed the rotten food from my plate and then replaced it on the same plate, and still charged full price. I only gave this a star because thats the lowest rating available. This is possible the worst restaurant in Timaru and there is some stiff competition for this accolade

Ginger & Garlic is a great restaurant, awesome views over Caroline Bay and looking north. Relaxed dining with superb food, I totally recommend the steak!!!
