I went because they do have vegan options and we wanted to try their vegan breakfast ($17.50). It is not on the menu but if you ask for it they will do it. The breakfast was a mashed potato cake, grilled tomato, spinach, fried onions and mushrooms. The portion was large and very tasty. But there was no toast and although it was nice, $17.50 is just too much to pay for a plate of veges when for the same price the non vegan breakfast had things like eggs, sausages, bacon etc. There was no protein at all in the vegan breakfast and despite it being a large portion, I was hungry later. A big slab of grilled tofu or some veg sosies would have done the trick. I would have been happy to pay $10-12 for it but at that price there should have been protein and toast!

Fabulous atmosphere, great historic building, wonderful service and superb food.
We were visiting Christchurch on a deserved break from Auckland. We popped in for coffee, a muffin and a roasted vegetable salad.
It was hard deciding which food to choose as it ALL looked so good! Fabulous to see a place offering such a range of vegetarian food. My muffin was delicious, of a generous size and served with a good helping of butter. The coffee was lovely. My travelling companion opted for roasted vegetable salad which was great.
We were even given a mini bar of organic chocolate. A lovely touch and it was so delicious too.
While we were here I noted they sell muesli in bags so you can take it away. Meant to visit the next day to buy some to take back to Auckland to eat, however ran out of time.
A fabulous place to visit – definitely recommend. Auckland cafes – please take note – this place serves generous, tasty food. Something incredibly hard to find in Auckland.
