My friend and I were travelling through Kaikoura – hungry. We noticed that there were quite a few takeaway food shops. I chose Tornado Potato at Go Pukeko because as I stood outside deciding, the man ran out to me and showed me the menu , pointing out they had fresh fish so I thought I would go in there. My friend went in to have a look at next door even though they were really busy. Well ($%#!)after I waited 25 minutes and no-one else there (?) the fish was smelly and tasted awful. The batter was dark dark brown with black stuff in it, the chips were soggy and wrinkly. The salad (if you can call it that) consisted of 3 soggy leaves of lettuce that were dark jelly like around the edges and brown with a bit of onion and sour carrots….yuk! I asked if they could check out my meal in the box. I was stared at blankly, told to be thankful and not to expect a refund. I had not even asked for one! I was told to put the free sauces over it and not to worry about it then they turned their backs on me and was ignored. After attempting to get their attention by saying excuse me 3 times, I quietly placed my meal in a box on the counter and left shaking my head. I went next door where my friend had gone, Wow…lovely fish, tasty and clean. Batter lovely and crunchy, beautiful color and really drained well. The salad was full of fresh tasty vegetables, I counted about 9-10 different vegetables! the chips were nice and crunchy but soft in the middle, really tasty and clean. My friend shared with me as there was more than enough for both of us. Lots of smiles by the people working there. I know where I am telling my friends and family where to go……not to Tornado Potato at Go Pukeko!! You should be ashamed of yourself. Am I allowed to rave on and rate the shop next door? Well I will anyway cos they deserve it…5 stars. Go to Hine’s Takeaways, good value, good food and high standards, nice people, clean environment, good conversation. No wonder they were way busier than Tornado Potato at Go Pukeko. I should have known better…Tornado Potato at Go Pukeko….you suck!
