As someone highly involved in the hospitality industry I was very upset to find a lady so disrespectful towards her customers, it really is a shame the previous owner of this cafe have been wonderful throughout my time visiting there on my way to timaru. Although the food is good the customer service is way below acceptable. Sadly I will not be recommending this shop to anyone anymore.

This is our local chip shop and is, as can be seen by the other reviews, blessed with the rudest, most miserable owner that you are ever likely to meet. We have until now put up with the appalling customer service and had a bit of a laugh about it with others in the area but today she has stooped to new depths, a not inconsiderable achievement considering past performance. Whilst with me in the shop making a purchase, my daughter was expelled like a naughty child and told to stand outside because she was still consuming the remnants of an ice cream cone purchased elsewhere! Astounding. How anyone with a modicum of business sense could possibly think that this kind of attitude and rudeness is conducive to encouraging return custom is totally beyond me. She clearly does not have a clue and it is time to hang up the apron.
The food is below average but it would not even be worth tolerating such rudeness for top class food.
Avoid at all costs!!!

What can I say, we were travelling back from holiday and called in at the cafe for lunch. The lady who came to serve us was the rudest person I have ever come across in the hospitality industry. We took a few crackers in for my 8 month old baby to eat while we had our lunch and were told we could not bring those in. We did explain they were for the baby, and she did tell us just this once we could bring them in. The way in which it was said was plain nasty as was the glare she was giving us. We ended up telling her we would go somewhere else. We would have spent 40-50 dollars there too, had we received good service. I will never go there again. I cannot comment on the food but based on our experience the gobble cafe does not even deserve a 1 star rating. (Since I have to give a rating, it will have to be a 1 star)

The gobble cafe! Where do i start! My local fish and chip shop. The food is very nice and not badly priced too, but the new lady owner is the rudest person i have ever come across! when she is being polite you can clearly see it’s fake and if you muck her around at all she doesn’t hold back.$5 min limit for eftpos, 50c charge for anything under. last night my daughters card declined (after waiting 20mins for a called in order)and because it was after closing time she wouldn’t let her go outside to the car to get some more change. just plain rude! have witnessed run in’s with a few other locals too. i will only go there now if i have too.
