Godley House is a wonderful Historic Building built in 1880. It is set in some of the most beautiful grounds in Christchurch and affords awesome views over Lyttelton Harbour. The very large garden area accommodates many different groups/options. For those cooler days there is plenty of seating inside with open roaring fires. Weddings, functions, corporate events, or just coming to enjoy a tasty meal and glass of wine or beer, Godley House will meet your needs. We also have accommodation for up to 16 people. Catch the 10 min ferry from Lyttelton (courtesy van can meet you) or drive 35 mins from Christchurch around Banks Peninsula. Bookings welcomed. Choose from our main daytime menu or for something quicker select from the daily cabinet.

I can recommend Godley house for any function as I recently booked a group dinner there for my 30th birthday. The service was high quality and the staff were incredibility helpful and saw to any and every request.
For booking I requested availability and more information via the website and received an reply the same day with all the information needed. I booked for 15 and then had to change the time one week prior to match the ferry timetable and was told this was not a problem and that a shuttle could pick us up at the ferry wharf.
The private room was set up perfectly with an open fire that was attended too all night and a well set table. The food was great with a wide selection for everyone and served in good time.
The atmosphere of Godley house made the night a great success! I big thank you to all the staff who made it so.

Well, the previous people were lucky to get a meal and poor service…we waited an hour after coming off the ferry for it to even open at the end of a day and finally got a mediocre drink! Fortunately, the House is beautiful from the outside (despite overgrown gardens and very shabby furniture) and we were able to take photographs and watch other disgruntled punters try the doors! The lease holders let us view the upstairs bedrooms and were naively welcoming thinking that unmade beds after three days, empty bottles, old dated furniture and a shared bathroom constituted a “romantic” night away for $95, let alone the heartbreaking downstairs of an unloved heritage building that lack soul and character nor reflected the historical character of a building of stature in a small community that should be commanding a top tourist trade which could focus on stunning views, top class furnishings, impeccable service and catering to a wide range of clientle….oh, it could have been such a stunning afternoon…but so wasnt!!!! A pity that the building is something that we fell in love with, and the inside decor and service let it down so badly. :(

Beautiful setting, really let down though by the service and food. We got food to take-away over the weekend so sat and waited for it, all we could hear was the chef (cook) out the back swearing every second word was f*** which was really unprofessional. Someone came in to ask where their meals were as they had been waiting a long time and after they went back outside they were bad-mouthed by this same person. Really poor as other staff knew we could hear it all. Our food took a long time and was really over-cooked when we got it. We had another bad experience here about two years ago but thought we would give it another go to see if it had improved, definitely won’t be back.

I waiting well over an hour for my meal to come to the table. When I asked to talk to Richard the Manager to politely mention this to him, he was rude and very intimidating. I do not think this is a very good image for a popular tourist destination and would not advise to dine there. A simple I’m sorry would have been a good start.
