Gothenburg Restaurant is a European style tapas restaurant. It has won an award two years running at the Waikato food challenge.
Gothenburg has a small but excellent selection of wines and a large (80+) selection of beers, mostly Belgian but with some German and New Zealand boutique beers.
Gothenburg has an excellent cheese board with most cheeses coming from France and a few coming from Italy or Spain.

The food was very well cooked and well presented, the quantity of food on the plate was just right. So it did not you leave bloated or hungry after three courses.
Their beer list is impressive at nearly 20 pages and many I have not seen before and some of the fruit beers were quite tasty.
The Restaurant is more in the Cafe stile than restaurant so bit noisy with wooden floors but is very well appointed.
Service is one place that lets them down, it is very disjointed with you being served by just about every waitress/waiter with varying levels of service quantity. Some very exceptional, other not so much.
From a drinks perspective the wine list was very limited with less than one page covering White, Red and Sparkling. But saying that most of the wines listed are/were gold medal winners..

We had 2 tapas, the seared scallops and the duck with mandarin pancakes. The sauce and scallops just went SO well together, so did the herbs and duck. We had a spiced beef pizza which tasted really good, even for someone like me who usually aren’t keen on strong spices. The taste merges well and it was very enjoyable. The restaurant has a huge selection on beer too.
Gothenburg alone makes me want to go to Hamilton again and again and again…

Plus it’s nice to have such a great range of Belgian beer somewhere that also does amazing food. I’ll be back. Weekly!
