I have been to GBK in ponsonby more times than I can remember over the past ten years. I love it, great prices, amazing food and service too. Highly recommend this place, can’t fault them!!

We went to GPK Ponsonby to celebrate my grand daughter’s graduation earlier this week.
The waitress was fantastic and our meals were excellent.
There was even a complimentary glass of sparkling for the graduate! Nothing was too much trouble and the wine list is superb.

My friend and I went to GPK with a deal voucher he had purchased and it was great. The staff were really friendly and the food was delicious! We both had the pate as an entree, I had the chicken and he had the pork belly for mains (both very tasty) then dessert to share. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone, great food and friendly service two thumbs up

I would never ever return to this restaurant again!!! I purchased a deal Voucher; pay $50 for $100 worth of food for a 3 course meal for two. My friend and I went to the restaurant and I asked the waiter if I could swap the entrée (entrée prices ranged from $11-$16) for bread ($5) instead as I didn’t like the choices on offer however the manager said no. I thought ok not very flexible but it is a set menu. However my two biggest complaints are that the mains where only 1/2 portions and the dessert was 1 x crème brulee and 1 x chocolate brownie both the size of a $2 coin brought out on the same plate for my friend and I too share. I like my friend very much but A) I do not want to share a dessert with her where you have to double dip spoons from mouth to dessert and B) the portions where ridiculously small. I spoke to the manager about the portion sizes of the meals and he agreed that the owner of the restaurant had told the chefs to take the normal size meals and ½ the portions for the Voucher Deal. So even though the voucher was pay $50 for $100 worth of food you were paying $50 for $50 worth of food due to the portion sizes being reduced. Also the pork belly was one of the worst tasted, very dry.

Went to GPK this week, there was a big group of us.

I’m not sure who he was, the manager/head waiter, guy with glasses, anyway. He was extremely unenthusiastic, and cold in his manner which was a shame because he was the front face for restaurant. He got my drink wrong, and came to our table especially, to tell me it was my fault he got it wrong (very professional). For the price and “sophistication” of the restaurant I thought this was poor.

However our waitress was fantastic, and pleasant, catering to our every need.

We enjoyed our food. We had a range of salads, pizza’s and risotto, and all enjoyed their meals. However no WOW factor from the experience and I have paid the same price for much better food.

The reviews below are all correct. I’d give it a miss if your looking for a great meal, but do go if you would just like a night out.

Went there for dinner other night, I’ve been here a about 3 times now in last couple months, on latest occasion my steak was poorly cooked, Chef obviously didn’t know that medium rare does not mean still moving and has pulsating heart beat, although they did rectify this when requested. Pasta was acceptable, with quite generous serving.

I would still come to this place in future, but the establishment really should do more to be more consistent given the prices it charges and general clientele it attracts. Service is generally quite variable in my experience ranging from poor to excellent, food quality/prep is also sometimes questionable. When I dine here I expect high level of service and excellent quality food, each and every time.

Had a voucher deal and meal and service was top draw. As a local, I always seem to overlook how consistent the quality is at GPK.
Ask for a table near the windows and enjoy Ponsonby on a Saturday night. Snapper is amazing.

I just wanted to write in response to the other incorrect review listed below.
After reading the below review I was a little bit worried but thought I would go and use my voucher anyhow.
And I totally disagree with the below review. It was great food and service.
The menu is what it states on the deal offer and is 99% the same as the photos. So we had a preview of what to expect before we went.
I just want to let people know that it is not Creme Brulee it is creme caramel so definitely no crust. The menu on the deals website and at the restaurant states Creme caramel.
I will be returning as I had an amazing time. Thank you GPK!!

Quite cold and set up really for the people who had bought grab a deal vouchers.
Wine $50 a bottle – expensive
Salt and pepper squid- ok
Steak small well cooked , 2 strands of broccoli , 2 inch flat potato.
Sharing plate desert, packet creme brulee no crispy top and tasted like wall paper paste, chocolate desert, burned my finger on hot bowl, waiter did not say it was hot, ice creme smidging was nice,
This was very small servings for the grab a deal so they made their money back on it, value for money no. Will I go back no, asked at beginning of evening to buy some cheese straws do not have any yet they were serving them free in the bar area and still were when we left.
Service of lady on till taking money, yuck would have walked out if she sat us down, dowdy, and looked un clean to say the least, bad grab a deal

I went to GPK Ponsonby yesterday with clients for a business lunch and had an extremely uncomfortable lunch and dining experience.

We were seated next to the kitchen when the Manager walked passed our table started yelling at the chef and abusing him about a meal he was not happy with for all to hear. We relocated to the bar area to continue our discussions where the Manager continued his bad form and yelled out “am i going to get some service here”.

GPK had an up market reputation an appealed as the right venue to have a lunch / business meeting , however as a result of lack of consideration for this managers towards his lunch cliental, i will never go to this restaurant again.

Have dined here on numerous occasions. Food is always delicious and service has always been very good. Quite pricey however you pay for what you get which makes the experience well worth it.

went for lunch the other day and was super impressed with their express lunch. Highly recommend the prawn entree! great service – friendly and efficient. will be back again shortly!

needed to meet some friends in ponsonby and remembered gpk from years ago, and boy was i not disappointed! on a Friday night the restaurant had a lively atmosphere and the cool booths in the bar were a great place to start. very friendly bar staff that recommended me a great wine of the month and a lovely champagne cocktail for the ladies. decided to stay and eat in the bar and order some pizzas. We decided on the Bombay and country and they were just as good if not better than i remembered! few more drinks then we ordered the chocolate decadence (yummy) and aorangi brie cheeseboard which was very generous! my friends and i had a great night and i would recommend gpk to anyone heading out on the town. thank guys! pete

Fantastic food! Pizza and pasta are really reasonably priced, while the mains are a little more expensive but very impressive. Great service and cool decor!

Crap food. We went expecting this to be a good dinner experience. I ordered the Lemon infused pasta. This was very dry and boring and was meant to have prawns in it – there was about 4 or so dry pink shrimp things, I think were meant to be prawns- GPK rip off at $28 a dish.

The pork belly was bland and the portion size was not even tapa size, a rip off portion at $34 – and left my partner hungry and wishing we had gone to MacDonald’s instead – sad to say but it would have been better.

We enjoyed the friendly service though it did take longer than expected to order drinks at start of dinner. The mains were all very well presented and nicely cooked fresh and tasty, though I felt mine could have been hotter at start. Very impressed with the feta that came with mine.

I ordered the siloin 360gram main lovely cooked perfectly and comes with platter of sauces for the meat, the mustard like was my favourite. Steak knives are large pretty cool

I also asked if I could have a creamy spinach side was of high standard, NOT over cooked at all and had chopped fresh garlic added as well, i was blown away, the spinach was quality baby spinach leaves aswell..

Lost a black silk jacket that time there and couldnt get it back the next day strange enough but ah well I found a replacement jacket.

This was a great dining experience. The food arrived promptly and the service was friendly and attentive, yet the staff didn’t make us feel rushed. The bread we ordered as a starter was fresh and the shared chicken teriyaki pizza was just enough for two!

I normally go here for dinner which is always fantastic, but the other day I went here for lunch and had the most delicious chicken salad. the service was fantastic and great busy atomsphere. Great restaurant for a quick and easy lunch. Recommend to all my friends!

the BEST pizza, and friendliest staff! i would recommend this place to absolutely anyone, the food is delicious, and the place just has a really great feel. oh and the soup is also fantastic! the menu has a wide variety, and everyone would be able to find something they’d love.

Went a few weeks ago, a group of over 12. One of the worst service I’ve had. No one asked if wanted drinks, had to call someone over. I order the duck paste dish, could have bounce the paste down the table, so rubbery. No asking how it was, nor drinks. No offer of dessert. Our waiter paid more attention to a table of two, then ours. I would not recommend this place, in fact it’s the one place I discourage people to go.

The food here is always so delicious, with excellent pizzas and side salads.

The cocktail list is great and the bar environment is nice and relaxed.

I always come here for a meal out as it never disappoints.

Service may be the one thing they need to improve on though.

This restaurant has recently changed the chef. The menu has been updated and there are special menus for weekend dinning. What has always been a good ( safe choice ) place to go is now somewhere that looks to be improving. Service is usually very good, with good flavors and presentation on the dishes. Only low for me is the ever so slight feeling of being spoken down to when I choose “tap water” rather than the expensive mineral water for the table.

Fantastic Fettuccini Carbonara! Perfect portion for me – not too much, ate everything on my plate. Went here for a company Christmas lunch and there was something for everyone on the menu whether it be a salad, pasta or pizza. Definitely go again.

My wife likes the pizzas. Banana on a pizza is a no no though. Mains are always good. Clean tasty food. Nice to go somewhere with table clothes and staff that don’t drag their knuckles too much. Water is damn expensive and specials don’t seem to change much. Normally a safe bet for not having a sore gut or needing to go somewhere else. Good for people watching too.

I had a pizza here and found out afterwards that the letters in the name of the restaurant stand for “Great Pizza Kitchen.” That one actually made me laugh.

I recently visited Auckland and the North Island (from Florida) and had lunch here. It was sooooo good (a great salad), and the service was flawless. So, I went back for dinner one evening, also. Again, it was a hit. Moderately-priced, very good quality, friendly service. I looking forward to returning here on my next visit to N.Z.!

Good Food – always consistent, affordable and usually (usually) quicky delivered. Service can be great, but occassionally snooty. Love the GPK Chicken Burger, adore the country pizza (okay don’t tell my cardiologist). Also worth a mention is the salmon salad.

I had dinner at GPK for the first time on Friday night. The food and service was excellent. The mains were generously portioned and the side dishes were delicious. My only comment would be that the lighting was quite dark (at least on our side of the room). It would improve the atmosphere if there were candles on the table.

I love the consistency of GPK. I can never decide if its the pizzas or eyefillet I love more which are always cooked to perfection! Great desserts too. I have been a regular here for many years and have visited all the outlets. The staff are always friendly and the atmosphere is great. Keep up the good work GPK, I’ll be back!

Food was mostly good. However, the medium rare steak was served bloody and had to be sent back, only to be brought back to the table well done – that was bad. They were also a tad understaffed and it took a while to get some service. To make matters worse, they stuffed up our bill. Seems more like a restaurant that’s on the decline. Definitely worse than the previous time. Do not eat here if you can’t chance a mess up. I expected better, way better.
