30 Reviews for GPK Restaurant
Tonight was the worst meal and worst service at this or any other restaurant we have been to for a long long time.
A complete change. What has gone wrong?
We have been many times when the restraint was full and service and waiting times have been ok. More importantly the food had been excellent.
Tonight it was atrocious. The restaurant was no more than half full yet it took almost an hour to receive our starters.
The GPK selection…. Had it many times..this time pathetic. We were told no oysters left when we ordered so that was ok. One dish had tuna the other none. We pointed that out and the poor waitress who said she would have that corrected. It never happened.
We next saw her 20 minutes later to clear the plates.
The accompanying salad was bland with no dressing…totally unlike the usual we had enjoyed many times before.
Wait and wait and wait. When the fish of the day snapper eventually arrived it was cold, over salty and otherwise lacking in taste.
My daughter had ordered the pork belly which was so over cooked she could not eat it. GPK did not charge for this.
I asked for a pair of scissors at the check out with which I cut up my GPK Restaurant loyalty card, I won’t be needing it again.
Staff turnover over the last year or so has been huge but apart from the odd decline in standards they managed to be ok.
It seems all the changes have caught up with them.
Good bye GPK.
We go there almost every 2,3weeks.
Good service nice atmosphere delicious foods.
Friendly staff always made us felt like home.
I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending this place.
THey NEVER disappointed my family and my friends.

4 guests ordered the chicken burger, which is usually a great choice on the menu. It was cold, bun was raw and the chicken was cold. The tomatoes were well past there use by date and the chef had forgotten to toast one of the buns at all. It felt like it had been pulled from the refrigerator and microwaved.
The caesar salad was appalling. Clearly they had run out of cos so used the dreads of what was left and the leaves were wilted and old. (which the manager agreed with)
The guests asked for a few changes to meals, such as …. caesar dressing on the side, (which the chef forgot to do) extra sauces for the burger on the side, which were forgotten anyway and after complaining about the state of the burgers these ‘adaptations’ to the menu were used as the excuse for the terrible food. How would the chef cope with a full house? Because…
We were the only people in the restaurant, a part from a lady eating the fish of the day on her own, and the smell was so putrid throughout the entire dining area. I hope she is ok, that fish was not fresh????
On top of it all, at the start of the dining experience, there were 4-5 pesky flies buzzing around and we asked twice for some fly spray or something, and the second time was told that none is kept on the premises.
Overall, with a table left full of food…we were basically told it was our fault for the poor quality. I have since found out it is changing owners again…and I hope the new owners will get the basics right…customer service with a smile and good quality food. A Wendy’s burger from down the road would have doubled the quality of this burger.
Hence, we paid the bill (a part from the burgers) and wenMoret to a cafe down the road for dessert.
It appears that the restaurant is failing miserably and the reaction from our complaint clearly indicated that this was not the first time, and instead of being apologetic, he was defensive and justifying the poor quality. What a shame…
I am excited to give it another go after new management has it for a time.
Also, I dare anyone to try the fish of the day here because you would get undeniably better taste and quality at ANY local fish and chips shop.
I can guarantee 80% of people will leave this restaurant hungry.

The service is very good and I will continue to eat at GPK and take friends there to eat.

The menu has been ‘updated’ and to be fair it’s terrible, none of the favourites from the older / regular menu that is reflected on the GPK website.
Hope they change it back and we’ll return!
Got there at 12pm and seated promptly. We ordered drinks and then our mains (one of which had the express lunch special including an entree and main). The entree was served in good time, while the rest of us still waited. Now 1pm and still no food – even others that had come in after us had been served!! We were all starving by now, we asked our waitress where our food was as we were on our lunch break and had waited for an 1hr already her response was “What time do you have to be back?” What type of response is that? She went to the kitchen and came back and said it would be ready in 5 min.
10min later nothing so we asked one of the waiters, he said he would ask. He then came back and said because your entree dish was cleared at precisely 12:51pm the chef’s started cooking the mains at that time. Wtf!! You can’t expect the whole table to wait for 1 person to finish their entree, then wait for the mains to be cooked! If we had known this we wouldn’t have ordered the entree deal.
We were now starving and ended up walking out as it was taking way to long and all the staff were rude and treated you as though you were an annoyance to them. We paid for the wine and left. I will never go there again, after reading the complaints about GPK why don’t they take these into consideration!! Maybe they would have happy customers that recommend them not say how bad their experience was. Word of mouth is the most powerful thing for any business!!
We were now starving and were over time on our lunch break, the new fast food shop on William Pickering filled the spot perfectly, great friendly service and affordable!!
The brunette girl taking our drinks seemed really irritated when after a minute of being given the menus we had not decided what we wanted.
As it turns out, we should have ordered more than 1 drink as this was the only time we were asked if we wanted drinks, even though I had finished mine half way through the main.
The plate from our entree was not removed and I had to ask for the fries that came with my meal.
Really disappointing as I have been here a lot but I will go to the Takapuna one in the future.
but as this was closer so we went here for lunch with a friend. i ordered a salad which when it came out we both commented no where near as good as Takapuna GPK half the amount of chicken and just an all round average meal ,
but we were not bothered as we were enjoying our lunch out together.
After eating majority of my lunch i looked at the fork full i was about to put in my mouth and there was a dead cockroach !!!!!! on my fork covered in the dressing, i immediately spat the other food out in my mouth and went to get the waiter as i was disgusted, he response to me was, it must have flown in while i was eating lunch and i said no way as it was dead and clearly in the dressing. i was disgusted and they just did not care at all .
The seemed very unhelpfully in making this situation better and we had to tell them to take the food off our bill, we then finished out bottle of wine and during this time the waiter came out to us and said i thought you were hard to deal with, you should see what i am dealing with inside?? i felt this was a stupid thing to say.as why mock other unhappy diners to us who have complained also! just made your service look worse as we realised we wern’t the only people complaining
We finally finished our drinks and went to the bar to pay where i am assuming it was the manager who said to me, are you still here aren’t you the salad girl? and joked about it, We got no sorry for that etc etc just made jokes, i was pissed off that they were clearly mocking me for complaining, then add insult to injury they then over charged me and didn’t even take all the food off our bill.
All in all very disappointing service and clearly some one needs to know how to handle complaints in that restaurant better and know that mocking your unhappy diners is not the way to fix an already baMored situation. Also you clearly need to clean your kitchen a lot better or be more careful when washing your food before serving to dinners.
I would not recomend got to GPK Takapuna instead !!!!!!
GPK is our longterm favourite restaruant, the eye fillet main is premium quality steak and very tasty and priced $5 below similar elsewhere. Always good for fast, tasty food that is always consistent in its quality. I am very surprised at some of the comments belwo as it is not our experiance and I have eaten at GPKS probaly 50 times (used to eat out alot)
Once we were seated we ordered drinks and entrées. Drinks did not come and after 1hr, seeing orders taken out to tables that arrived after us, and a complaint, we got our entrées (none of which required cooking) and our long awaited drinks.
We then waited a further 1hr for our main meal.
Upon complaining, the arrogant manager told us they were really busy, and did not offer an apology.
The food was nice, but the wait and management was appalling. If it wasn’t for one terrific and sympathizing waitress, the night would have been a disaster! Neither I nor the party of 6 I was with will ever be returning.
However what does annoy me is their refusal to take the entertainment card, Sorry it was amistake and we should not be in the book. Well then put a sign up somewhere or tell people before they sit down and not after they have had the card accepted by the waiter. This could have been dealt with better. No problem with the manager – the owner apparently refuses to do so,
Well you will loose some business then.
