I have been to GPK over 50 times.
Tonight was the worst meal and worst service at this or any other restaurant we have been to for a long long time.
A complete change. What has gone wrong?
We have been many times when the restraint was full and service and waiting times have been ok. More importantly the food had been excellent.
Tonight it was atrocious. The restaurant was no more than half full yet it took almost an hour to receive our starters.
The GPK selection…. Had it many times..this time pathetic. We were told no oysters left when we ordered so that was ok. One dish had tuna the other none. We pointed that out and the poor waitress who said she would have that corrected. It never happened.
We next saw her 20 minutes later to clear the plates.
The accompanying salad was bland with no dressing…totally unlike the usual we had enjoyed many times before.
Wait and wait and wait. When the fish of the day snapper eventually arrived it was cold, over salty and otherwise lacking in taste.
My daughter had ordered the pork belly which was so over cooked she could not eat it. GPK did not charge for this.
I asked for a pair of scissors at the check out with which I cut up my GPK Restaurant loyalty card, I won’t be needing it again.
Staff turnover over the last year or so has been huge but apart from the odd decline in standards they managed to be ok.
It seems all the changes have caught up with them.
Good bye GPK.

The food is brilliant but the service lately has been very poor.
Reflects poorly on the new owners, Markus was fantastic but i don’t think he works there anymore.

Went to this place on Sunday for lunch. Ordered the Calamari as an entree and this was really nice. For our mains we ordered the Steak with potato gratin and the prawn linguine. Both were amazing. The service however was slack. The indian lady took ages to seat us and she was very rude and couldn’t be bothered taking our orders she went away for 15 minutes then came back and asked if we wanted drinks….so we couldn’t be bothered with her and her rudeness. Also the couple on the table next to us had to go up and order at the bar cos the waitress again couldn’t be bothered asking for there order and she acted all surprised when she asked them what they wanted and they had already placed there order. This place is amazing but service needs to be way better.

Unfortunately made the mistake of taking 7 lovely ladies out to lunch for a birthday celebration yesterday. We love the good old staples of GPK menu and always go back for these, even though parts of the menu have changed for the worst.

4 guests ordered the chicken burger, which is usually a great choice on the menu. It was cold, bun was raw and the chicken was cold. The tomatoes were well past there use by date and the chef had forgotten to toast one of the buns at all. It felt like it had been pulled from the refrigerator and microwaved.

The caesar salad was appalling. Clearly they had run out of cos so used the dreads of what was left and the leaves were wilted and old. (which the manager agreed with)

The guests asked for a few changes to meals, such as …. caesar dressing on the side, (which the chef forgot to do) extra sauces for the burger on the side, which were forgotten anyway and after complaining about the state of the burgers these ‘adaptations’ to the menu were used as the excuse for the terrible food. How would the chef cope with a full house? Because…

We were the only people in the restaurant, a part from a lady eating the fish of the day on her own, and the smell was so putrid throughout the entire dining area. I hope she is ok, that fish was not fresh????

On top of it all, at the start of the dining experience, there were 4-5 pesky flies buzzing around and we asked twice for some fly spray or something, and the second time was told that none is kept on the premises.

Overall, with a table left full of food…we were basically told it was our fault for the poor quality. I have since found out it is changing owners again…and I hope the new owners will get the basics right…customer service with a smile and good quality food. A Wendy’s burger from down the road would have doubled the quality of this burger.

Hence, we paid the bill (a part from the burgers) and wenMoret to a cafe down the road for dessert.

It appears that the restaurant is failing miserably and the reaction from our complaint clearly indicated that this was not the first time, and instead of being apologetic, he was defensive and justifying the poor quality. What a shame…

I am excited to give it another go after new management has it for a time.

We went to GPK yesterday for a company celebration and we could not of been happier with the service we received. We were able to reserve an area for 25 of us and pre order our pizzas and nibbles with no trouble at all. We arrived at 5.30pm and the food was served at 5.45pm exactly when we asked and when we realized we had under ordered (because the pizza was so good) another 7 pizzas and 4 bowls of fries arrived in less than half an hour. Everyone remarked on how good the food was (and we have some very fussy eaters in our crowd) and the service was great with the waitress coming to ask regularly how we all were for drinks. I would recommend GPK to any company looking to do a small event and we will definitely be going back.

Something has changed at GPK went there a year ago was brilliant this time food was terrible. A simple Ceasar Salad and a pizza – salad was dry clumps of cos lettuce with a tiny cold poached egg and country pizza has no taste lacked topping ate 2 pieces only. Side of chips was the only thing good. A glass of GPK Chardonnay while I concede is cheapest glass on menu tasted like water. Soup x1 to start was average, not good enough to say was home-made but the two fingers of bread with soup were a bit of a joke cause they were plain tiny delivered with a big cube of butter No dessert left in haste never to return. Next time I’ll go to a pizza takeaway instead. $90 better spent elsewhere.

Waiters were annoyed at our group as we (kinda) pestered them as to why our food wasn’t arriving.. but I really could not comprehend why it would take (literally) an hour and 10 mins since ordering to dish up. When we asked the head waiter what the hold up was his excuse was the different steak orders but we only ordered one steak and it was medium rare.

Also, I dare anyone to try the fish of the day here because you would get undeniably better taste and quality at ANY local fish and chips shop.

I can guarantee 80% of people will leave this restaurant hungry.

Went to GPK Albany last night for a family birthday celebration and it was great. The food was delicious and very filling. The chef even provided a blue cheese sauce for the steak on request, even though it wasn’t on the menu. The service was excellent, especially our waitress who although very busy, took the time to check on us and confirm we were happy. Altogether a very pleasant evening and we will be returning again soon.

Our meal was very nice. Neither of us could fault it and for our main meal one was gluten free. The service was very good and there was no problem asking what could be cooked gluten free and then cooking a very a nice meal. I have been to GPK Albany ion several occasions and GPK once. I have never been disappointed with the food and the people I have taken there have also enjoyed their meals.
The service is very good and I will continue to eat at GPK and take friends there to eat.

It used to be fantastic when we visited 3-4 times a month, the food and the service, now sadly only the service is.

The menu has been ‘updated’ and to be fair it’s terrible, none of the favourites from the older / regular menu that is reflected on the GPK website.

Hope they change it back and we’ll return!

Friday lunch out with the girls at work, we were all looking forward to eating at GPK, very exciting!!

Got there at 12pm and seated promptly. We ordered drinks and then our mains (one of which had the express lunch special including an entree and main). The entree was served in good time, while the rest of us still waited. Now 1pm and still no food – even others that had come in after us had been served!! We were all starving by now, we asked our waitress where our food was as we were on our lunch break and had waited for an 1hr already her response was “What time do you have to be back?” What type of response is that? She went to the kitchen and came back and said it would be ready in 5 min.

10min later nothing so we asked one of the waiters, he said he would ask. He then came back and said because your entree dish was cleared at precisely 12:51pm the chef’s started cooking the mains at that time. Wtf!! You can’t expect the whole table to wait for 1 person to finish their entree, then wait for the mains to be cooked! If we had known this we wouldn’t have ordered the entree deal.

We were now starving and ended up walking out as it was taking way to long and all the staff were rude and treated you as though you were an annoyance to them. We paid for the wine and left. I will never go there again, after reading the complaints about GPK why don’t they take these into consideration!! Maybe they would have happy customers that recommend them not say how bad their experience was. Word of mouth is the most powerful thing for any business!!

We were now starving and were over time on our lunch break, the new fast food shop on William Pickering filled the spot perfectly, great friendly service and affordable!!

We ate here this week, a group of 3.

The brunette girl taking our drinks seemed really irritated when after a minute of being given the menus we had not decided what we wanted.

As it turns out, we should have ordered more than 1 drink as this was the only time we were asked if we wanted drinks, even though I had finished mine half way through the main.

The plate from our entree was not removed and I had to ask for the fries that came with my meal.

Really disappointing as I have been here a lot but I will go to the Takapuna one in the future.

My boyfriend and I ate here on Friday night, arrived at about eight pm and we were seated straightaway even though they looked quite busy. The staff were very friendly. The waitress was attentive and nice. The entree pizza breads were very yummy, and our meals were very nice. I would definitely recommend and eat there again. I would give five stars if my burger was just a little bit more exciting, but it was a lovely meal. The pasta was nice too.

We went to GPK for my birthday a couple of weeks ago and decided to go for the breakfast menu options. The sides of bacon were burnt, and the hash-browns out of a packet (I know, I buy them for the kids from the supermarket!). We did mention this to the waits-person (burnt bacon) and didn’t get much of a response. They should have taken it off bill. The whole experience was disappointing and we won’t be back.

i went to GPK Albany on the weekend, normally i would go to GPK Takapuna which i think is great!!!
but as this was closer so we went here for lunch with a friend. i ordered a salad which when it came out we both commented no where near as good as Takapuna GPK half the amount of chicken and just an all round average meal ,
but we were not bothered as we were enjoying our lunch out together.

After eating majority of my lunch i looked at the fork full i was about to put in my mouth and there was a dead cockroach !!!!!! on my fork covered in the dressing, i immediately spat the other food out in my mouth and went to get the waiter as i was disgusted, he response to me was, it must have flown in while i was eating lunch and i said no way as it was dead and clearly in the dressing. i was disgusted and they just did not care at all .

The seemed very unhelpfully in making this situation better and we had to tell them to take the food off our bill, we then finished out bottle of wine and during this time the waiter came out to us and said i thought you were hard to deal with, you should see what i am dealing with inside?? i felt this was a stupid thing to say.as why mock other unhappy diners to us who have complained also! just made your service look worse as we realised we wern’t the only people complaining

We finally finished our drinks and went to the bar to pay where i am assuming it was the manager who said to me, are you still here aren’t you the salad girl? and joked about it, We got no sorry for that etc etc just made jokes, i was pissed off that they were clearly mocking me for complaining, then add insult to injury they then over charged me and didn’t even take all the food off our bill.

All in all very disappointing service and clearly some one needs to know how to handle complaints in that restaurant better and know that mocking your unhappy diners is not the way to fix an already baMored situation. Also you clearly need to clean your kitchen a lot better or be more careful when washing your food before serving to dinners.

I would not recomend got to GPK Takapuna instead !!!!!!

Went to GPK on Friday night. The night of the big game at North Harbour. Boy were they busy. Thought we would be there forever as they were run of their feet. However it only took 15 minutes to get table. Menu was great. Had the best Eye Fillet Steak ever served with green beans Potato Gratin and sauce fantastic. Staff were great, friendly and helpful even though the restaurant was over run with people. Would highly recommend. If they are that good with so many people they should be fantastic when less busy. Wouldn,t bother going back. We had two tenagers with us and were poked in a corner away from all other diners. we had a gas heater behind us but they did not have any gas for it, nearlly froze to death. The waitress spoke so quitely we had to ask her to repeat herself several times. The food was average to poor, the rump of lamb couldn’t even be cut with a steak knife.

very stylish decor, easy parking and the food as expected was as per the xcellent Ponsonby GPK.
GPK is our longterm favourite restaruant, the eye fillet main is premium quality steak and very tasty and priced $5 below similar elsewhere. Always good for fast, tasty food that is always consistent in its quality. I am very surprised at some of the comments belwo as it is not our experiance and I have eaten at GPKS probaly 50 times (used to eat out alot)

Went to GPK last week, Not impressed! We could hear swearing and yelling coming from the kitchen. The head Waiter was arrogant and sounded like he was taking the piss every time he spoke, he got two of our orders wrong but refused to admit his mistake and was blatantly rude to a waitress in front of everyone. How embarrassing

I visited GPK Albany last night. It was busy but as we were celebrating a birthday we had booked ahead. We arrived at 7 and could not be seated until 7.30 as they did not have our booking.

Once we were seated we ordered drinks and entrées. Drinks did not come and after 1hr, seeing orders taken out to tables that arrived after us, and a complaint, we got our entrées (none of which required cooking) and our long awaited drinks.
We then waited a further 1hr for our main meal.
Upon complaining, the arrogant manager told us they were really busy, and did not offer an apology.

The food was nice, but the wait and management was appalling. If it wasn’t for one terrific and sympathizing waitress, the night would have been a disaster! Neither I nor the party of 6 I was with will ever be returning.

I for one am relieved someone as reliable as GPK has finally opened locally. What i love is that i can go on a Sunday afternoon and laze around the outside fires, read the paper, and just relax and if i want a fun night out, the bar area on a Thursday night or pre-game is really cool. Mostly i go for the eye fillet and enjoy a good wine with my partner. The service is just as excellent as every other GPK i have ever been to – but the food is the star. Will definitely continue to go! love it!

we are a family of 5 and being in the entertainment book gave them a try. Pizzas were ok . beer quite dear, service is again average. I do hate having to ask for everthing all the time ve it pepper, can we have another drink? can i have my salad at the same time as the meal rather than after i have finished, Can we all have our meals at the same time rather than at 5 minute intervals – so half have already finished by the time you are served.

However what does annoy me is their refusal to take the entertainment card, Sorry it was amistake and we should not be in the book. Well then put a sign up somewhere or tell people before they sit down and not after they have had the card accepted by the waiter. This could have been dealt with better. No problem with the manager – the owner apparently refuses to do so,

Well you will loose some business then.
