The doors opened quietly at the end of May to a spacious, rustic Ale House with woolpress barleaners, macrocarpa slab furniture and ample seating for diners. Specialising in a range of hand-crafted brews from local New Zealand microbreweries like Crouchers, Mikes Organic, Harringtons and Mata with more to come.
Awesome and affordable menu with an extensive variety and an emphasis on good ole Kiwi cuisine. Great children’s meals and desserts, and a great play area to entertain the little ones.
Open for breakfast, cabinet food, lunches, dinners and private functions. Function Room by arrangement.

Me: What is the fish of the day please?
Waiter: Tarakihi
Me: How is it cooked?
Waiter: In the oven
Interesting start. As the above didn’t give me much information, I ordered the steak, rare, but unfortunately couldn’t eat it as it was still moo’ing (raw).
On the positive, as an apology the waiter gave us a free beer and a free wine.
Perfectly good destination for a beer and chips

Unfortunately there ended the good experience at the not so great kiwi ale house.
One meal for one of the children was completely missed, a pasta dish arrived when a vegetarian pizza was ordered, the roast vegetable salad was not eaten as it was below standard.
The fish bites, chunky fries and grilled ciabatta bread were pleasant and the pizza (when it arrived) was well presented and tasty. The children’s burger was poor quality.
We should have been alerted by the empty restaurant on a Saturday night.
The restaurant was clean and tidy though the bathrooms were not.
Not a venue I will be giving a second chance in future.
