Gumdiggers Restaurant, exudes an historic ambience, awash with oiled Kauri panels set-off by dark green walls lined with photographs of old gum digging days in Birkenhead.
Your Chef and host, James Archibald, founded the restaurant back in 1977.
Gumdiggers’ popularity has persisted over the decades due to the team’s down to earth attitude and commitment to offering value for money. Gumdiggers has a style that engenders a strong following of repeat customers.
The historic premises (originally a 19th century drapers’ shop) are maintained in meticulous condition.
Gumdiggers caters for a la carte dining and is also host to many weddings and special functions. For private functions such as this, the team at Gumdiggers will illuminate the restaurant for you with their traditional oil lanterns.

We didn’t know what to expect but were welcomed with big smiles and menu filled with many classics – I enjoyed the chicken followed by soft, rich chocolate mousse which came in a glass with a cherry on top – talk about blast from the past.
We were laughing so much – They didn’t mind us having so much fun in the least. A great night out – highly recommended
