My friend and I went to Hazel on spec last week. There were a handful of people in, but it wasn’t busy. The staff were very polite and suitably attentive without being fussy.
We ordered the same meal – sirloin steak.
It arrived in good time and was very nicely prepared and served. The potatoes and salad were delicious and the steak itself was perfectly fine.
For desert I had the mascarpone cheesecake, it was an unexpected almost liquid consistency – I guess that ‘s the mascarpone – but it tasted great.
Overall we had a really good meal there; I expect we’ll be back.

I had a wonderful, romantic birthday night out here. The service was great as was the food. Wait staff very attentive. The cocktails were yummy and the atmosphere was great. Would go back.

Dined at Hazel for the first time on Tue 11 Oct with my friend. It was quite busy, but the service was great with very attentive staff. We skipped starters and went straight to entrees. For entrees we had the salmon gravlax, avocado tomato salsa & wasabi mayonnaise to share which tasted so fresh and delicious. We thought it was very creative to have the avocado tomato salsa and wasabi mayonnaise mixed with the salmon, as it complemented the salmon and tasted absolutely delicious together. After 20 mins or so, our mains arrived. My friend ordered the char-grilled sirloin steak with garlic gourmet potatoes, green salad & bearnaise sauce. He said it was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. And he especially enjoyed the bearnaise sauce. I ordered the tender-oven roasted duck with green beans, roasted kumara & gooseberry sauce. Amazing. The duck was cooked to perfection, very tender and tasted great. Everything was to a high standard as well as great portions which was worth the price. After the fantastic mains we had to try the desserts, and were not disappointed at all. We shared the dark chocolate mousse torte with blackcurrant jelly & rich chocolate ice cream, which was very nice and topped the evening. Overall, the evening was a great experience and I will definitely be dining at Hazel again. Definitely did not have a similar experience to Jess & Fiona. Highly recommended.

I think I had a similar experience to Fiona. I also had a voucher and was really excited about going. Upon arrival we had to wait 15 minutes before odering and then were given the smallest glasses of wine. Half an hour later we were given entres and and hour later mains. Food was seriously lacking thought and care. I would not go back at all.

I’ve been to Hazel quite a few times. The most recent time I went was on Sat 3rd Sept. It was a very busy night, me and my sister ordered the entree – chicken skewers with satay paste and salmon gravlax and for the mains – beef and venison and for the desserts – raspberry mousse and chocolate mousse. Everything was to a very high standard. The portion of the meal and price was very reasonable, in my opinion. For a busy night, the service was still great, staff kept attending to us and of course the environment was not quiet but overall we still had an excellent night! We will definitely go back to dine at Hazel again – highly recommended!

Well I am uncertain what Fiona below has got her panties in a scrunch about-we went there on Friday 02 September 2011 after having read the feedback and had one of the groupie vouchers for $49.
The two entrees were absolutely delectable and when the mains came out the food was to die for.
The service from the staff was great, the ambiance excellent and as we dine out weekly on average would DEFINITELY dine at HAZEL again without hesitation.

A couple of years ago I would be giving this place 5 stars but unfortunately they have gone down hill since then. We purchased a voucher on line that gave us 2 starters, 2 mains and 2 glasses of wine for $49. The food was not restaurant quality and the service was terrible. To begin with we were seated next to a large noisy table, when we asked to move they said they were too busy despite there being several other tables for 2 free. We placed our orders and after waiting for half an hour we finally got our starter. We got garlic bread and I normally like it buttery but this was over buttery leaving the bread extremely limp and soggy. Half an hour to an hour after finishing this we got our entree. I got the pumpkin, beetroot and feta salad and my bf got the calamari. The salad was OK, however my bf’s calamari resembled and tasted like something u would buy from a fish and chip shop rather then a restaurant. Well over an hour after finishing the en tree’s we received our mains. I got the cannelloni in tomato fondue and my partner got the prime Angus beef. For the cannelloni they used whole lasagna sheets rolled up however the filling was more then lacking and the dish resembled more of a tomato and pasta soup then anything else (They must have thought the same thing as someone dropped off a spoon to me halfway through my meal). My bf asked for his steak medium however his steak was rare, the potato rosti was undercooked and the zucchini crisps were not crispy but soggy. We had intended to stay for dessert but from the combination of terrible service, look waits and mediocre food we decided to leave without spending any more money. The staff ignored us all night, didn’t take any additional drink orders, didn’t top up our waters, seemed confused as to what they were doing and never asked us how our meals were. Would def not recommend unless you have hours to kill and want to waste your money.

The folks shouted me there last night for helping them work out how to use their cell-phone :)

The room was warm and the food was divine, as it always is. We had some garlic bread to start which was just right for the three of us. There were 5 diverse vegetarian options which you could have in entree or main size, so I ended up ordering two entree sizes for my main because I just could not decide. I had a pumpkin, feta, spinach risotto and the corn fritters with Jerusalem artichokes. And its BYO.

Mum and Dad both had the Steak, which was cooked to perfection. Dad usually has the duck which they always cook very well.

I cannot understand why more people aren’t eating here.

This a cute little restaurant with a homely feel and friendly staff. The desserts are lovely which is why I mainly come. Dreamy Caramelised banana tartlet
with vanilla ice cream & butterscotch sauce is my favourite after the movies treat. Hazel is one of the few Wellington Restaurants that have a decent selection of Vegetarian options which makes it so easy to please a group that you dont see to often, there is something for everyone at good prices too.

We arrived early for our booking but it wasn’t a problem. The staff were great! smiles at all times.Prompt service, our drinks and starters arrived in a flash.
We had the char-grilled steak, rare, it was cooked perfectly, and the cannelloni which was cooked really well, was bursting with flavor.
The dessert was a tough choice, they all sounded delish! We had the blackberry and apple crumble with ice cream and the caramelized banana tartlet with butterscotch sauce, recommended by the waitress.
over all we loved it and will be back!

We went on a Saturday evening and were very pleased to be able to take our own wine. The welcome was professional and the table service attentive and prepared to accept minor changes to the standard menu ( a half sized main as entree… no salad dressings ). The Bruschetta, risotto entree, steak and chicken mains were great. Nicely presented, excellent flavours. Very good night overall. We will be back !
