Hogs Breath Cafe offer a huge menu to suit all tastes and budgets. Hog’s Breath Cafe is a very family friendly, fun, casual dining restaurant with something for everyone.
Our signature dish is the Prime Rib which is slow cooked for 18 hours and then seared on the char grill. It simply is “the best a steak can get”.
Fun, friendly service with a smile is always on offer.

We arrived at about 6.20pm with 2 very hungry children as we had been driving round for 30 minutes deciding where to go.
The Menus are too busy, far to much going on in the flip through folder… about 10 pages. The music is too loud to allow you to concentrate too. Lots of small print!
We placed our order with the nice staff member, 2 kids meals (they dine free on Tuesdays, and we made that comment to the waiter, saying that’s was what we were going for) and our meals (under $20 each). Drinks arrived within 10 minutes.
They were quite busy, a couple of big groups (about 8 people each). We sat and waited. The kids were mildly entertained for the first 30 minutes, interesting decor, Music video playing, colouring in pictures… but at 7pm they were getting pretty ratty!
At 7.20pm I said “If the foods not here by 7.30 we’ll walk.”
… 7.30 we get up to go and the food arrives. We stay. Kids meals were actually pretty OK, Hubby ordered a ‘pie’ more like a runny casserole with pastry lid, I had Beef wrap, was OK.
Had to ask for the kids desserts, that came with their deals.
When I paid, I commented as to the excessive delay in our food arriving, over 1 hour is not acceptable and said we nearly walked…
the manager commented, there were 2 big groups in,
I said it would have been nice to know that, before we ordered. I was charged for the kids… apparently there is small print that says when adults orders mains over $20. I said I had told the waiter that we were having that deal, but he didn’t advise of the conditions.
The Manager did not deal with my complaint satisfactorily, I left vowing to never return… pity!

I couldn’t fault it, good quality and value for money all round.
I had the Prime Rib Steak – the best steak I have had in a long, long time. Kids were happy and so was Mum with her salad which was huge.
Keep it up Hog’s.

Took 5-10 minutes for someone to show me to my table, there were only about eight people in the restaurant at the time and plenty of staff.
My steak was under cooked and appeared to be presented as very rare when I asked for a medium, the bread came out after main meal, staff were rude and the duty manager, possibly the owner (from Australia) was full of excuses for the steak, the staff were pre occupied by texting on their phoned and talking together. I would never return.

Fish was disgusting and mainly inedible $65 for 2 meals of such poor quality you have to be joking except that we were not laughing…anyone else hate the lack of prices on the drinks list?

My wife’s pork was pink and my medium rare steak was stone cold and uncooked in the middle. We bought this to the attention of our waitress who apologized, but was not willing to do anything about it.
I quite honestly would never go here again, and wish we had just gone to McDonalds (which I hate).

Me and my wife dined just recently, my wife is a head chef by trade so when we asked the waitress what type of beef is used she left to find an answer, her response was “we dont know it just comes in a box labelled prime beef” so you could imagine our reaction! So we ordered something else the rack of lamb, cooked very well and tasted pretty good, i only wish someone in the resturant could’ve told us the beef was angus or hereford etc so we couldve tried that, but as for unknown meat shame on you!

We preordered our meals (a great selection to chose from, catering to everyones likes) and drinks for 17 Cub Scouts and 12 Adults, within minutes of arriving at the nominated time the drinks followed by the meals were being served. The meal was enjoyed by everyone, the Cubs were so excited with their meals especially the curly fries, which disappeared every quickly, for many their first experience of a restaurant. No one walked away with any grumbles just plenty of full stomachs and pleasure.
The staff were very friendly and helpful, and had so much patience dealing with the 17 excitable Cubs who kept them on their toes.
Many Thanks for the great meal and service, would certainly recommend to other groups to use.
Kind regards
Carterton Cub Scouts

The plates were not cleared away and we were not asked for Dessert which we wanted. We were by then fed up and to top it off were charged for the incorrect meal – it was deducted when this was pointed out – all in all a very disappointing experience that I wont do twice!!!!

However, I was Absolutely appalled by the service and food we received. Since the ownership has changed this place has gone down hill. Speaking to other people, the feed back has been much the same.
