The Honeypot Cafe shifted from its pre quake central city site on Lichfield Street to new premises on Colombo Street in Sydenham.
This cafe has been part of the Christchurch cafe scene for such a long time, it’s great to have them back in action! They provide a thoughtful children’s menu plus helpful info on hand about the arts and community activities/events going on. Honeypot has helpful staff and a range of comfortable seating options.
There’s a casual, fun atmosphere about the place.
Bookings are recommended so you don’t have trouble landing a table.
In this new location, there is outdoor seating right next to the new community outdoor Chess Set.

We arrived and waited to be acknowledged for a while – we decided to grab a table (we had to clear as most of the tables has dirty dishes on them). We then waited for a waitress to come and take an order, we ordered the pancakes with chocolate chips and both chose the bacon as extra. I also ordered a coffee with our meals. Food came out promptly but no bacon and the way it was listed on the menu made it seem like pineapple was an optional extra, I didn’t think it would come including half a pineapple! Pancakes were good and the dish was very nice without the overdose of pineapple. I couldn’t get the waitresses attention and all staff seemed to by busy rushing around late orders and comping food. No sign of my coffee or anyone making my coffee, and the surrounding tables were trying to get attention from the waitress with complaints about wait time which made the whole environment uncomfortable. One table even got up and left without receiving any coffee. Both my partner and I finished our meals before my coffee arrived – nearly 45 minute wait for a mocha! Not on! The waitress’s response to my concern was ‘okay I”ll go check”. We were just about to leave when my coffee arrived. We went to pay and I said I would like to check out bill because our order was wrong and we were not going to pay for the bacon extras, the young man’s response was “Okay cool”. As someone who has worked in the hospo industry for nearly 4 years – please train your staff how to deal with customer complaints and if you want to call yourself a cafe – make sure you have someone behind the coffee machine full time! Such a shame as The Honey Pot used to be great! Won’t be returning!
