The Honeypot Cafe shifted from its pre quake central city site on Lichfield Street to new premises on Colombo Street in Sydenham.

This cafe has been part of the Christchurch cafe scene for such a long time, it’s great to have them back in action! They provide a thoughtful children’s menu plus helpful info on hand about the arts and community activities/events going on. Honeypot has helpful staff and a range of comfortable seating options.

There’s a casual, fun atmosphere about the place.
Bookings are recommended so you don’t have trouble landing a table.

In this new location, there is outdoor seating right next to the new community outdoor Chess Set.

The second time I visited here was for a family dinner and while the food was delicious the service was terrible. This was a busy Wednesday night just before Christmas but early in the evening when we arrived the booked tables had not yet arrived and our group observed 2 groups come in and look around uncertainly for a few moments and walk out again while the staff ignored them. The male server was very friendly and helpful but the 2 women were sulky and rude (when we asked for desert menus and sweetener for the coffees) and the service over all was very slow. I will return but was very dissapointed in this instance.

I had the best eggs Benedict ever at Honeypot! Eggs were perfectly poached, heaps of crispy bacon plus avocado, on a fresh bagel – and cost only $8.50 instead of the standard $15-17 as in other restaurants. I’m looking forward to returning to Honeypot when it reopens.

This is the second time I’ve eaten here.
The first time I went they messed up my friends coffee order.
The second time they served meant BURNT toast with my ‘works’ open sandwich. This was so burnt that it tasted like charcoal, if Gordon Ramsay saw you serve this, he would throw the whole plate against the wall. I asked her to remake it, which she did but she forgot the relish/grilled cheese on the toast.

Also ordered the seafood chowder, do not recommend unless you like a 4mm layer of oily butter on top of your chowder

Thought we’d see what people were on about , so decided on brunch here today. Had the pancakes with bacon and maple syrup. Yummy!! A huge stack of 3 pancakes, i just couldn’t finish them all. The place was quite busy but got great service and a fantastic flat white. Will definitely be coming back again.
