So we have been here a couple of times for dinner and I have to say we have had excellent service both times. The meals were lovely, very tasty and a good portion size. My husband ordered the prawns for his entree (which was what I was originally going to get!) and I got the crumbed Camembert. Mine was nice, his was outstanding! I got food envy! The prawns were melt in your mouth delicious. I hardly ever order prawns as they are so often rubbery – not so with these ones. For our mains we both ordered the lamb, mmmm, it was yummo. We both had nice desserts too, bannoffie pie and chocolate eclairs. I always forget how reliable and good this place is. The only things I don’t like about this place are: the name, I think it has a terrible name; the decor is a bit boring, which is a shame since they have the lovely brick wall on one side and the reserve on the other.
Had lunch here, we were nicely greeted and welcomed at the door, offered drinks strait away, and a colouring page and crayons for the little one. Nice full glasses of wine, and super fast service it was a very pleasant experience. Outside area was great with heaters on. Food was simple, not amazing but good enough for price paid. Very impressed with waiter he definitely went the extra mile for us. Will be back
Have had better, went for breakfast. Food was well prepared and presented but was cold when we got it.
Service is ok but a bit slow even though the place was not that busy.
Have to give kudos that when we raised the fact the food was cold they discounted the meal so good on them for that.

Incredible service, great food, lovely staff. Kim and Heidi were just brilliant. We can’t recommend this restaurant enough!

My husband and I dined here for lunch a few weeks ago. Lovely and helpful staff. Nice food…I had the Open Chicken Sandwich which I thoroughly enjoyed. Tables were kept clean, food was well presented and in a timely manner.
We found the outdoor space to the side of the building very pleasant (we dont like the street front dinning area), we fully intend to return along with our daughter and friends.

Almost 5 stars !!!
Dined in April 2009 (3 people) and May 2009 (14 people)!
Service is really good, catered for Celiac (gluten free) not problem, BYO wine with no corkage – an absolute plus, no complaints with any meals and if they’re unsure, they will check twice. Bar service was really good, did not feel or get rushed as they needed the seats.
Will definately return here again.

I have been in charge or organising 2 dinners for 40+ people and both times we have chosen the Horny Bull. They have a set menu when 20 or more are dining. Both times NO ONE has been disappointed which is amazing given the numbers. The set menus are fantastic value, service never fails to please, Mark and his team are accomodating. I have also dined in a small group on numerous occassions and have never had a bad experience. Totally recommended.

If you want a decent meal the Horny Bull Cafe & Bar’s a good place to go! Traditional kiwi proportions with your favourite sauce! The steak cuts won’t win a first class prize, but it’s still a good feed! Service is good too!
