We came here with a deal voucher. We ordered a duck stirfry and curry, both were really delicious. The decor makes you feel you are in Thailand.
The service was good, although not sure what it would be like when iti s busy, as there were only 4 tables full when we went.
Dishes are beautifully presented and quite big!
I would like to try the red duck curry next time.
And would recommend everyone to try this place.

Authentic setting with friendly staff. Had dinner 1st time here and although I was disappointed with my sizzling beef (more like stew) hubby enjoyed his duck. However went for lunch yesterday and stuck to my usual choice of prawns and it was just delightful. I love the fresh coconut in the dish, something really different and the kaffir lime leaves make it soooo fragrant. A highlight for me was how it was presented. In a long dish with the most beautifully crafted carrot that I asked to take home with me. You guys are so talented I am in awe. I have enough trouble cutting them into straight strips
:) Hubby true to form, had the duck of which he enjoyed again. Thank you.

Went with friends to New Chang Thai for the first time. I have a soy allergy and the waiter said it was no problem to adjust meals for me. I had vegetables, duck & cashew nuts and the meal was delicious – lots of tender duck and plenty of cashew nuts. Decor very special and a great reminder of Thailand. We will return!

The best Thai I have ever had.
My wife and I called in for a surprise Friday lunch. The restaurant was full (always a good sign). The service was quick and waiters and waitresses came to see if they could do anything. The food was superb, the best I have had and I love Thai. I will definitely be reccommending this to my friends and will be back soon.

It was the worst Thai food that I ever had . We have been ordered pork stir fry and received carrot stir fry instead. The sause was blend and did not taste Thai at all. Also, we had to wait 15 min before we got the table despite on prior booking ( restaurant was semi- empty ) .
Complete waist of time and money

The worst experience I have ever had in my life at any restaurant… We had been to house of Chang Thai many times in the past but since the new management I cannot express how disappointing our experience was. It was nothing but a ruined night which was planned to be a good night initially. We booked for 8pm the day before and were told that If we were not on time we wouldn’t get a table so got there 10mins early but still had to wait half an hour before we were given a table. We then had to request the attention of a waiter to take drink orders at least 4-5times before we finally managed to do so. It was about an hour after we got a table that we finally got a waiter to actually take our food order which didn’t arrive until after 45mins… By then my kids were tired and cranky. Not only did we get a plate at a time with 10min intervals in between but got told half through some of the meals arriving that they had no lamb or prawns so we had to book order something else. I had initially ordered pad Thai for my kids but because of the delay in the food arriving about 2 hrs after we got there I had to ask for a takeaway and settled my kids with fries… It was disgusting and extremely disappointing… My friends son did not enjoy his meal at all and wasted the whole lot as he ordered a chicken curry which hardly had any chicken but was full of cauliflower and carrots. When complaints were made to the waiters they didn’t even apologise once but were very defensive, rude and abrupt! I don’t believe that is professional or appropriate and will never recommend this restaurant to anyone or will never return there again. This new management needs to jack their ideas if they want their new venture to be successful!!! Furthermore on the night we found that we were not the only customers full of complaints… Funny that!

New Chang Thai always provides quality food for a good price. Their lunch specials are very good. The place is also quite interesting given they have spent a lot of time decorating the restaurant with traditional Thai ornaments etc.
Great food.
Great food.
This is definitely the best thai restaurant on the shore. Absolutely divine my wife and I regularly dine thai, and bar “the secret thai garden” in otahuhu of all places it is in our view the best thai restaurant in auckland. The peek kinaree is my choice of entree. Whenever we choose mains here we always choose different than the previous visit and we are never let down, house of chang thai is our favourite thai restaurant on the shore. The decor is excellent. The toilets also.
You wont be dissappointed at the price either!

Excellent Place to dine out.
We went here accidently. It was mom’s birthday (Oct 2011), we booked a thai restarant (quiet near to new chang)… while my sister was parking, mom and i decided to walk around the block…. we found New chang!!
Fantastic Deco, excellent service, friendly staff, good food, reasonably priced.
I would strongly recommend for family or staff functions.

I read the previous reviews and was a little worried as I had booked the staff Christmas dinner at the New Chang Thai. But we were so pleasantly surprised. The setting is wonderful and the food is fantastic. Served looking beautiful and tasting absolutely divine!!!! We have been back twice already.

I went and had dinner with my family a few days ago and the food was great!
I’ve visited here often and recently with the change in management, I have realised that the service is much better. All of the waiters greet you with a smile on their faces and the food tastes even better!
I have seen no other place like Chang Thai Albany that has decoration like this. It really feels like I am in Thailand!

This is the worst service that I’ve got!!!!!Me and my gf r thai food lovers, stopped by at the restaurant because my gf just simply wanted to hav a pad thai for lunch. We reached the restaurant at abt 2.15pm, walked in, without knowing where to sit because no one was there to direct us. That little thai waitress saw us but still continue speaking to the chefs using thai language. And then only she saw us and said if v wanted to eat here, v have to order fast as the kitchen is going to close at 2.30pm. We were thinking we could use that 15 mins since my gf already know what she wants. We were brought to a not-properly-set table n given our menus. Not even 30 seconds after opening our menus, the guy waiter asked to take our orders. Or course we were undecided yet as we wanted to try both entrees n mains!!!!!!!!!…and so i asked to give us a few more minutes…POLITELY….n den shockingly!!!!!, the waiter LOOKED AND POINTED AT HIS WATCH, n told us off by saying that u have to hurry up and the kitchen is closing…TWO MORE MINUTES DEN!!…IN A RUDE MANNER!!!…..his poor n disgusting service n attitude just pissed n ruined our mood off n so v decided to walk out….even worse, that waiter said OK BYE BYE! to us when v were making our way out!!!!!….even the little thai waitress rushingly said sorry but not the waiter!!!!!…this is very very very very disappointing as v visited their restaurant only because the other thai restaurant that v love, the orchid thai does not open for lunch…n v also thought v shud try n compare if this is beta or not….n there they r giving us the poooooorest service ever that v have gotten!!!…i can cope with bad food, but definitely not bad service!!!!….n for sure i will make sure all my family and friends know about it…this is just…disgusting!!…the service did not match with the decor..wat a shame!!!!!

Great Thai decor , one of the best Thai duck curries I have had, definitely the best one in Auckland. I will be back.

The decor and fitout in this restaurant is a sight to behold. No expense has been spared to detail creating a wonderful, authentic Thai ambience.
There are 4 or 5 different dining areas including booths, private rooms and an elevated wing.
What a shame the food doesnt even come close to matching what could have been one of the best Thai restaurants in Auckland.
The main problem was the bland food bathed in a very weak sauce. We ordered Pad Kra Prow Pork and Pad Khing Chicken. Both simple Thai stir fries. Unfortunately we couldn’t tell them apart, largely due to the fact both were brimming with the same vegetables, and the Thai Basil was hardly nowhere to be seen (there were at most 4 or 5 leaves in the dish).
Regrettably, neither of the meals were eaten simply because they were so uninteresting I couldnt be bothered.
It would be very sad to see such a beautiful restaurant and obviously enthusiastic management not get the basics right in the food dept.

The food quality was variable. Most was reasonable and equal to any good mid-priced Thai restaurant. One of our dishes was very poor to the point of being revolting. One item we ordered never arrived.
The service was very terrible; perhaps even the worst I’ve ever experienced. Our initial waiter and later waitress did not understand English well enough to take our orders and to then deliver our food correctly. This would have been comical had we been watching Fawlty Towers but of course we weren’t – instead we were paying customers.
One of our meals was delivered late and upon the fourth request and 15 minutes after all other dishes had been delivered the manager / owner decided to argue with us rather than to resolve the problem.
In terms of price this restaurant is a little bit more expensive than the good ones found in more popular eating areas. Something like $3 to $5 a dish more expensive than a good CBD restaurant. Presumably this higher price reflects the lack of local competition.
Really this is a poor choice for eating out. The food is no better than you’ll get elsewhere, the prices are a little bit expensive, and the service is terrible.

This is a review for the new Chang Thai in Whangaparaoa. The decor is lovely, really special and we felt like we were somewhere in Thailand. The service was very friendly, and the food was the best thai we have ever had at affordable prices. This is the best restaurant in Whangaparaoa we are really excited about it!

We have had several meals at Chang Thai, including last night 13 Feb 2010. The food quality has been uniformly excellent and the service superb – warm, friendly and efficient. Their wine prices are great. The owner Robbie is passionate but that’s one of the main reasons why the restaurant is so good! We love the overall experience.
I have eaten here a few times with friends and food has always been delicious. Service is warm and friendly. The waitresses do not always fully understand you as some of them are not that fluent in English but there is always someone nearby the pops over if this arises.
I have also eaten lunch here with friends and the special is incredible value for money and the food is just as good. I have heard some disappointed comments about Chang Thai but as I have never been disappointed myself or had friends dining with me disappointed, I can only presume it was just an unfortunate night or meal at the time. Maybe a different chef on that occasion. We all have bad days!
The decor is unique and makes the ambience womderful and authentic. Highly recommend you try this place.

We have been there on a few occasions. Most times food maybe high average. Certainly not as good as the beautiful decor (or advertising) would lead you to believe. Last night (Sunday) food was mediocre, sizzling beef almost inedible and tasteless and one dish didn’t turn up. We had to remind them and wait for it to be cooked. Ladies restroom left bit to be desired, not dirty, but not pristine. Finally, they had large sliding door open. Most smokers left their tables and went outside to smoke. We may as well have joined them, as the smoke filled the restaurant. Not something we enjoy. If they want to encourage nonsmokers also, perhaps they should give the smokers a table outside away from the open sliding doors. I noticed the considerate smokers went out the front door and presumably smoked in the car park. Not sure what legislation says about allowing second hand smoke back into the restaurant? So, all in all, not a good evening.

Food was good bordering on very good – but not better than any other Thai restaurant as the manager claimed. Prices for food and wine are reasonable. If I was in Albany and needed a meal, I would go back – but I wouldnt drive across town to go again.
The decor is interesting but slightly glitzy.
The manager on the night we were there was more interested in telling us how good his restaurant was than in listening to our opinions. New take on hospitality.

I love the food in changthai especially the chicken red curry, pork panag curry and stifies. Everything was perfect until the manager-looking-like old man made some offensive comments to us. He was absolutely RUDE!! Overall nice place to have lunch which is less then 10 dollars

Sensational food in very stylish and authentic surroundings. Not only the best restaurant in Albany but certainly one of the best in Auckland!

On my first visit, I noticed the complete attention to detail, “Thai Opulence”!!! The fit-out is simply stunning, often Thai restaurants can come across as some what tacky and cheap, this place is the exception.
The service was very friendly and welcoming, we were attentively sat and made instantly comfortable by Robbie, the owner, and his team.
Then for the food! Words do not do it justice! You must try the Crispy Pork Salad, and ask for the prawns that look like a bird!
The wine list is above average for this type of restaurant and as a refreshing change the mark ups are more than reasonable.
House of Chang Thai is simply a must, prepare for an evening of glorious authentic Thai food and an extremely well humored host.
Can’t say I will be back, as I’m already a regular.
