HUHU Cafe offers visitors to Waitomo the opportunity to sample great New Zealand cuisine in a beautiful setting.

We offer a delicious lunch and evening menu, perfect for enjoying with a cold one on the sunny deck before or after a hard day’s caving or glow-worm spotting!

You can enjoy delicious treats such as Caramelised Garlic & Goats Cheese Tart, Wild Rabbit Hotpot, Slow-Cooked & Crispy Duck, Organic Sirloin, Dark Chocolate Souffle & Poached Tamarillos to name but a few (please note that our menu changes on a regular basis, depending on what we can source from our suppliers).

Wherever possible, we use local providers – our lamb comes from farms around Te Kuiti, our cheese from Putaruru & our berries (when in season) are from Piopio.

Our wine list consists of a number of great New Zealand wine varieties and our beer list features a selection of boutique beers to whet the whistle!

Cosy up by our woodburner during the winter months or chill out on our deck over summer… Have we tempted your tastebuds? Well then, we look forward to seeing you at HUHU sometime soon!

We are regular patrons at Huhu. It’s a great place to have dinner any night of the week. The standard of the meals is consistently good.
My favourite is the duck—magnificent. Tender, melt in your mouth meat accompained by kumara mash and salad green.
All four of us enjoyed our meals. The bread and dipping oil as a starter and the delicious hot potato wedges are nice with a drink to start the evening
Service is friendly, and the staff are knowledgable about the the food.

We stopped off thinking we’d pick up a quick bite to eat before seeing the glowworm tour and it was a very nice surprise to get stunning food instead of your regular ol cafe food. My guy had what he says is ‘the best lamb burger ever’ ( and he’s a picky man!) and I had a delicious avocado and crab salad. Wonderful flavors, serving staff were a bit slow to tend to us when we first arrived as we almost missed our tour but it was worth the wait and rush to eat this great food!

A food experience you cannot create at home. Visit the HUHU for fabulous service, food & wine. The chefs always go the extra mile. The menu changes regularly to tempt you to try another sensational creation. PLUS they source lots of local food & organic choices too. EVERY course needs to be tried otherwise you’ll miss one of their treats & wistfully covet other tables dishes as they arrive.
HUHU is just such a treat! Thanks HUHU.

What an absolute gem of a restaurant.

We ( 2 adults, and 2 teenagers), had an absolutely fantastic meal there, and reasonably priced as well. Has to be one of my favourite restaurants in NZ, gorgeous food, good service and great menu. Wouldnt hesitate to veer off the beaten track to go there.

We travelled all over NZ in Oct08 and this was in our top 2 meals of the trip.
The food was delicious and creative without being too wanky. It had a good range of Kiwi classics but done differently (a lot of other restaurants have the std 1 fish, 1 chicken, 1 beef, 1 venison)
The wine list too was well thought out and obviously comes from a lot of personal experience and taste. There were some interesting boutique wines that you don’t get on the beaten track.
The staff were very friendly and good at their jobs and the chef/owner even came out and had a chat. He was a great guy and very down-to-earth (like a lot of Kiwis we’ve met!)
It was unexpected to find such a top class restaurant in a small place like Waitomo but if you love your food, definitely drop in. Not too exxy either. As I said, 1 of our top 2 dining experiences in all of NZ.
