I came to Indian Pepper after seeing the Indian-Chinese items on the menu here. My curiosity led me to order the Chicken Chilli, which was so juicy and full of flavour. I was very pleasantly surprised at how the Chinese and Indian flavours worked well together. I really could taste both cultures swimming around in the sauce. The dish also came with some of the most beautiful naan bread I’ve had in some time. It was lightly cooked, with butter melting over the pieces of naan. I LOVED that there were no black burnt bits on the bread – it was really soft, and cooked to perfection.

The only thing I didn’t enjoy as much, was the two dressing sauces for the salad. But to be honest, the salad was a healthy bonus that I wasn’t expecting… and I ate it anyway – I just shouldn’t have been so gung-ho about pouring so much salad dressing over the top!

Free poppadums while waiting was a bonus. And I ordered some zingy mango chutney to enjoy with them while I was waiting for my main to cook.

I found the staff here welcoming and helpful, and the restaurant was immaculate in its presentation.

The chicken chilli was a pleasant surprise. I thought it reminded me of the Chinese sweet and sour but it wasn’t sweet or sour, but better. The medium hotness I asked for just had the right touch of spiciness, where you cant taste it but doesn’t overwhelm the dish. it says in the write-up that the resto specialises in Chinese and Indian. A very nice and new combination indeed, and if you are curious how it tastes, try this resto. Staff is friendly and accommodating. Prices are reasonable. Would love to come back.

Me and my boyfriend went here for dinner earlier and we definitely enjoyed our time as we left feeling very satisfied! Firstly, the place is clean and smartly decorated. The staff are very warm and attentive. Engaging without being intrusive. They made us feel comfortable but still available to help with whatever questions we had.

We have tried various Indian restaurants in Auckland and by far, we had the best butter chicken and naan bread (garlic) here. There is just a massive difference in taste and quality. The other dish we ordered was their lamb biryani which was also cooked to perfection, and together with mango lassi to cool down the dish’s heat, it was just a wonderful meal.

All in all, we had a wonderful experience and we could not find any fault with how this place is being managed from the interiors, to the people, to the dishes. Five stars, and we are looking forward to being back again.

I recommend Indian Pepper as one of our top Indian dining places to eat. Me and my partner have eaten at a lot of Indian restaurants and found that this restaurant has been our best experience so far. Food is great and the service is ok. The only downfall is on our first couple of visits the waitress there was quite rude and not very welcoming but the manager/boss was very friendly and helpful and made our first experience very enjoyable. As we live quite a distance from Indian Pepper we don’t mind the drive to go and eat there especially having the lunch deals at $10.. Would highly recommend.

Have dined a few times & always found the staff & food excellent.We both don’t enjoy really hot flavoured food so it was really great to find a restaurant that pointed out the suitable meal for us.As said by many of other diners the Naan bread is tops & I especially like the Spinach soup really yummy.
The only glitch would be the waiting for the lovely meal would suggest you bring the pappadums earlier to help keep the hunger pains at bay.Should mention had no problem taking uneaten food away .So Indian Pepper up have THUMBS UP from us & we will choose your restaurant above others in the area for sure KEEP IT UP & thank you

Moved here from Singapore and have been trying different places around Auckland. Love Indian food and a friend recommended this place. Place is immaculate, service is friendly, even on a busy Sunday night and food is exactly what I would call authentic Indian, and Indian Chinese is amazing (Hakka style cooking). We ordered Khyber Pass Tikka, Kadai Chicken and Chicken Chilli with Keema Naan for 2 of us, and the portions are humungous!! Finally found a place that would be our permanent place for an Indian night, even though, we live in North Shore, it is worth it. Keep up the good work.

I was quite excited to try the Chicken Chilli dish – unfortunately, it was rather bland – just tasted of chilly and onions. I didn’t feel that ‘zing’. Also, I’d term it as a full-fledged Chinese dish as I didn’t taste much Indian spices in it (unless you categorise ‘chilli’ and ‘cloves’ as exclusive Indian spices. Mind you, chillies and cloves are commonly used in Chinese dishes too.. so you be the judge.)

Having said that – from my two visits to Pepper (I had an Indian curry the first time) – I would fairly say the food is slightly above average … However, I think the curry portions are significantly small, as compared to curry portions served at Raviz (as an example).

Service is impeccable (there usually aren’t that many people anyway). Hint: Go for lunch – they have $10 specials.

Awesome food. Every single dish we ordered has authentic Indian taste. We live close to city but don’t mind to travel all the way to Panmure just only for that tasty food from Indian Pepper. We tasted almost every single dish from them and all are superb. Economical too, they don’t add the same creamy gravy to all the curries like some of the restaurants we visited. If anybody want a taste of Indian food, have to go to Indian Pepper and taste their food. Even staff are very friendly and patient including the Manager.

Happened to discover this place as the French-Italian restaurant on the next street was closed for some reason. Was very impressed with the lunch at Indian Pepper. The prices were very reasonable and the portion sizes were massive – the leftovers got me through the next 2 meals. My friend who is not a huge fan of Indian food thorougly enjoyed the curries too. The food was delicious and cooked to perfection. The service was prompt and the waitress was friendly and plesant to interact with. Definitely a better option for a nice quiet lunch as compared to the crowded eateries at Sylvia Park or Lunn Ave.

Indian Pepper is one of our locals and frequently visited by ourselves. We had never heard of soup at an Indian restaurant until we had been to Indian Pepper, and we would never have tried it until we used our deal voucher – and the soup has been a favourite dish ever since! The tomato and lentil is my favourite!
The staff are very friendly and helpful – the chef often going out of his way for us (last night we arrived late but he still had no problems cooking lentils for us, even though these can take a while).
The makeover has been a good improvement – although thank goodness for the cushions on the ‘lounge’ seats as these are a bit low.
It is especially nice to see a different cuisine in Panmure (where there are too many Asian cafes and restaurants – sometimes one’s palate craves something a little different), hopefully more restaurants will follow and turn this into the cafe/restaurant strip it should be.

We were in Auckland over the weekend and heard about this restaurant so thought we should try it out. Went on Friday evening and place was fully booked. We were told by the Waitress to wait for 20 minutes and were given a table for 6. Portions were good for tandoori dishes and curries were a good size as well. Service was excellent. The whole set up is modern. Very good overall. I recommend the Khyber Pass Tikka.

We went to Indian Pepper with a Deal Voucher. But were very disappointed with the overall experience. It was extremely hard to book a table. If they had an issue of staggering the vouchers, they should have only sold 100 and then stopped. You cannot sell 500 and then say sorry bookings are full.
When we got there were just 4 tables occupied, and that is by no means a full seating, that disgusted me to start with. We were not explained all dishes were served as mains. The order took one hour to come which was very poor. The servings were abnormally large and done so that you just cannot order another dish. What is worse is they do not allow you to take it away. Logically, they are supposed to dispose off left overs, we are actually doing them a favour by taking it away, some restaurants charge for the take away container, that is fine. If you have paid for the coupon, it means you have paid for your first round of dishes, so you are not ordering to just take away, and are entitled to take it away. The only thing I can think of is a very mean strategy to dump as much food in a serving restrict the ordering to one dish, not allow the customer to take it away and just reuse the left overs. Why else would you stop a customer from taking the left overs and have to throw the food away it does not make sense!! Not a good practice.

The seats were very uncomfortable and having children that cannot sit still just compounded the problem. It was a disaster evening. The food tasted quite good hence two stars or I would give it no stars. We are never going back.

The food is divine!! We had fish masala, lamb vindaloo & mango lassi…it was the best I’ve ever had The ambience & decor is modern & lovely. The service was good & the staff are polite & friendly!! The pricing is so reasonable….great value for money. I’m Indian & finally found a great Indian restaurant in Auckland!!

We went because of a voucher, I agree with other comments, it’s hard to book a table, we had to book 2 weeks in advance. The food was amazing, portions were big and the staff was helpful. Unfortunately the leather chairs were not comfortable at all. Will go back again.

We went because we had a deal voucher, which we bought a while ago, and then realised was about to expire. We couldn’t get a reservation over the phone (fully booked), so we chanced it and just turned up. After a small delay, the manager suggested we ordered a drink and wait, and within 10 minutes we were seated.

The food was great; spicy and flavoursome, very generous portions. You could taste rather than be burned by the spices. Really good service after a patchy start. Will go back again, definitely worth a try. Great value and good food.

Note they also sell Cobra (a great beer, and heaps better than Kingfisher (which they also sell) in normal and 660ml sizes.

We bought a voucher and it was not easy to book a table. Took us a few weeks to get one for four people. Lots of tables were empty, when we stayed.

However, the food was great!
The staff was welcoming and helpful.
The restaurant was even too immaculate in its presentation, could show more Indian culture. The seats are terrible, modern but uncomfortable.

We will come back and order takeaways as the food is amazing and good value for money. Much better than other places.

We had a dinner for 8 people in there with a voucher. As other suggested, the naan bread was probably the best naan bread we ever tried and the size was massive. The chicken chilli and chicken pepper is a must to try for everyone, they are awesomely delicious. I ordered hot & sour chicken soup and I enjoyed that.

The staff were very polite and friendly, even the manager was very approachable and informative when we asked about the foods. The place is clean and modern and very welcoming.

Unfortunately there are some let downs:
- we had to try to book for 3 times until we finally managed to get a table on the fourth time (this was 1 week in advance). May be it is because of the size of our group or may be too close to the day we want ?
- the waiting time, it was an hour until our main came out. it seem that people who arrived and ordered after us got their foods first. There was 3 tables came after us and their foods were out first way before ours. When we came in they were not particularly busy, so I have no idea with the excessive waiting time.
- the spicyness. I particularly ordered ‘very hot’ and repeated it again ‘Indian hot’ so they know we like it very hot and spicy, but all those ordered very hot came out very mild instead.
- the poppadums entree, the chicken tikka and fish tikka, they tasted like PURE salt. there was no other flavour that we can taste apart from very salty. It’s a shame because I can see the chicken and the fish seem to be very fresh.
- last, we couldn’t take away the left overs. We probably have a dish and a half left overs. It was a shame that they had to throw away those left overs. It wasn’t the last food (fish tikka) either as we finished it already, event hough they’re super salty. It was actually one of the first main we ordered in the very beginning for our little niece who couldn’t eat anything spicy – so it’s not like we purposely ordered the last food so weMore could take it away.

We also ordered our favourite dish, which is the butter chicken and vindaloo beef. It is good but nothing special compare to the one we normally bought from out local Indian restaurant.

At the end we were happy-ish. It was a very good saving by using the voucher. Would we come back with no voucher ? probably not – because our local Indian restaurant is as good as they are. With voucher ? we might come back, only if they can reduce the salt by heaps and can do a ‘real hot/spicy’ as ordered.

I would rate it 3.5 of out 5 but unfortunately MenuMania only allows either 3 or 4.

This place was an unsuspecting gem! The food was great, and the pricing was splendid, especially compared to what other places charge!

The decor is new and clean, and the environment was enjoyable. Staff were friendly. Will definitely return! I highly recommend the butter naan bread!

Great food! All the meat dishes we had were moist and full of flavour. And their soup is amazing! Especially the spinach one, it was so creamy and delicious. My brother in law is very sensitive to chilli and when we asked to have the curries mild they did this but still kept the dish flavourful. Service was also fantastic!

We went there with deal voucher and we find the deal was excellent and service was bit slow but the person in charge make up for it. We will be back.

Superb and I can’t recommend it any higher.
The choices were great, and every single dish that we ordered came out really well. Presentation was fantastic. We had a deal voucher for eight but looks like we’ll be coming back, voucher or no voucher. The naan bread were probably one of the nicest tasting ones that we’ve ever had.

We used the deal voucher. We all enjoyed the food. I don’t like soup but I enjoyed the spinach soup. Fish tikka, seekh kebab…everything was delicious. The service was great too.

Delicious food and friendly service. We ate prawn Tikka and fish Tikka which were just right with great presentation and flavour. Also tried the Paneer Chilli from the indian chinese menu which was delicious.
Staff were busy but made sure every table in the restaurant was well looked after without being overbearing.
They allow BYO and were very reasonable with corkage.
Overall a great place to go for a curry.
We will be back soon.

We were given the rules,
You must eat soup, a portion of the limited menu was out of bounds for this offer
We had to finish the soup before we could order our mains.
I must confess the Naans were good,
The food was OK but not the best.
The tea is bad news, its made with oily condensed milk
The service was slow.

Very nice Indian food I never had before! I am not a Indian favour but this restaurant change my view. They offer good price for the good and professional service. Tonight I went there with my partner, we using the voucher deal. We only spend $29 to had a very nice taste soup which I recommend spinach soup and chicken korma. The food is much enough.I only can finish the soup and a little bit of the ck korma with rice! But the staff is very nice there he help us to take away of the leave over.
Even without the vouch the food price is very valuable.
I love it and I will come back with my friends again!

I came to Indian Pepper after seeing the deal offer. My curiosity led me to first have lunch and then go for the coupon. I was very impressed with both the mains, Fish masala and Chicken Kadai cooked to perfection. The meal also came with some naan bread. It was lightly cooked, with butter melting over the pieces of naan.– it was really cooked to perfection. The Mango Lassi was thick and delicious with Almond flakes – Five Star style

Had a takeaway the first time..enjoyed the food and came back to dine in for Father’s Day. It was an awesome experience. Dishes were priced reasonably, the food was delicious and the service excellent. Especially enjoyed the paneer kulcha and the chicken entree recommended by the waitress. Dad loves his indian food and is very fussy. Having eaten in many many Indian restaurants in Brisbane, Fiji and Auckland, he knows exactly what he likes and he gave Indian pepper a thumbs up. For the first time he tried and finished the “green sauce”
Fussy eight year old also liked the lamb korma and loved the paneeer kulcha which disappeared very quickly. As for myself, I even enjoyed the bed of cabbage on which the sizzling chicken entree arrived. However we didn’t like the mango lassi which was too sweet for all of us.

Mostly have only had takeaways here but really want to go for Sunday lunch with all my friends. Better than any restaurant in Panmure and surrounding areas. The staff is knowledgeable and super welcoming – even though she was the only one there who’s doing the money and taking care of all the customers…awesme service by her. Mainly i like that they offered dishes apart from the menu like we had chicken saagwala and moreover the soups were amazing.
The best and more impressive than their food is the service and also the memory of the girl was wearing a black shirt with short hairs, who on our second visit offered us drinks and remembered the exact wine and beer we had ordered on our visit 1 weeks previously! Very friendly and highly recommend them to anyone…..we will be back soon …cheers.

Had my fathers 50th birthday, party of 10. All our entrees were very nice, ranging from the half tandori chicken, prawn tika, chicken tika and lamb kebabs. Accompanied by a awesome green sauce (wasn’t sure of the ingredients lol)

Our mains were butter chicken, chicken korma (both beautifully creamy), beef vindaloo, fish tika masala and chicken kadir. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals, a couple were put in take away dishes (eyes bigger than our tummies) by the friendly staff.

A nice environment good service and knowledge of the menu and the food will make you want to return. Took a while for our entrees to arrive, put it down to such a large group, and refilling the carafe’s of water when they are empty, just little things for feedback. Thank you for a lovely night, no doubt we will be returning.

I had my son’s birthday dinner at Indian Pepper, the staff and manager were very helpful.Food was excellent all my guests loved it especially the Tandoori Chicken.

An extremely palate pleasing experience with the take away dinner we ordered from Indian Pepper we ordered the Lamb Saagwala med/hot along with naan bread both were to perfection.

The service was friendly & helpful when I phoned thru to order. There has been a name change an new owners but i was reassured by Preet with whom I spoke to that they had retained the same chef.

Having dined there previously when it was the Maharajah the quality an standard of food is still the same, delicious. Thank you Indian Pepper I look forward to my next visit.
