The Internationalist Bistro & Wine Bar is located in the heart of the North Shore’s East Coast Bays; Rothesay Bay. The bistro is warm and cozy, the food is fresh and appealing – the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. We have put all of our experience into designing the next generation of neighbourhood eatery/entertainment venue with an International feel (music and food) and wonderful ocean views that only The Bays can offer.

The Internationalist is setting its sights high – to offer a memorable class experience at great value. Romantic and sexy enough for a date, yet still fun enough for groups. Visit our Events page for all upcoming performances featuring recording artists and meal deals.

Very cosy and homely atmosphere. Nice ambient music. As we walked in I noticed a couple of mothers having a chat on the sofas while their kids played with toys from a box that the restaurant had supplied. I thought this was a nice touch – they are obviously family friendly.

The service was reasonably quick and the staff were very friendly.

The fries were the best I’ve ever had, I definitely recommend! Their pizzas are also good, and the table next to us seemed to really enjoy their burgers. The cheesecake was alright, not the best, and my partner had the cake which was very rich but quite nice.

All in all, a very welcoming restaurant with some good food, and while we went for a traditional dinner I could see the Internationalist being a good place to have drinks with friends on the sofas too. I’ll be coming back – mostly for the fries!

Great place to sit back relax with a glass of wine and catch up with friends. Where else can you go on the shore and sit on couch’s with a glass of wine in the sun!

Amazing views

Have had the pizza and dessert before which was good however I have had better.

Wine and starters were good however mains were a bit disappointing. The Moroccan Lamb was served well done so was too dry for my taste dry which is a shame as was nicely spiced and a generous size. It came with roasted vegetables which didn’t really work with the Moroccan lamb and lacked seasoning. A couscous based accompaniment would have been a better match, maybe also with more of a sauce rather than just the thick date syrup which was the only moisture on the plate. We also had the salmon main which would have been ok apart from being drowned in too much soy sauce making it a bit too salty. Strange that only two tables were occupied on a Saturday night given all the other reviews so far are 5 star, I guess those that were not so keen have been keeping quiet. Service was good.

This is just what Rothesay Bay has been waiting for! Now that the sun has come out and people are venturing out again, this place will take off I’m sure. Therefore I suggest you get down there while you still can!
I’m a bit bummed that I don’t live just around the corner anymore but maybe that’s a good thing for my waistline as I think I’d be there everyday.
My husband and I popped in to grab a quick bite and a drink on Sunday. We ended up having a lovely leisurely lunch and a few drink and even a few extras joining us. Two thumbs up for this place, great balance of atmosphere, quality and hospitality. It feels “local” and a “bit special” all at the same time and the prices are great. When I looked in I thought it was going to be pricier than it was as it looks so lovely, but was pleasantly surprised and that’s why we ended up staying longer. Please give this place a try as I’d love to see it in Rothesay for a long time…. I really love it and so I will tell all! :-) Enjoy!

Went to dinner at The Internationalist on Saturday and I really loved it! The waitress was fantastic and recommended a wine for us as we were struggling to choose from the extensive list. We had the Astrolabe Sauvignon Blanc and really enjoyed it. I ate the Teriyaki Salmon and it was really delicious. I often find cooked salmon hard to stomach due to its oiliness, but its combination with the udon noodle salad and edamame beans was spot on. My partner had the Moroccan Lamb and said it was fantastic.

Overall a fantastic experience: excellent wine, excellent service, excellent food. I will definitely be back!

We popped into this place one Sunday afternoon to listen to a little jazz and have a cheeky glass of wine and ended up staying all afternoon. It was very cosy and the atmosphere was great. Fantastic vibe that the staff create. will be going along again that’s for sure.

not sure if its a theme restaurant or not – however it works for me. the food was fabulous – the artwork on the walls refreshing and the staff attentive. what more can you ask for. it was a bit noisy at times – i think an echo from hard wood floors – they should get an area carpet, I will definitely come back
