Bento style is our speciality at Japanese Kitchen.
Bento is a very popular style of meal in Japan, it comes in a square box with different compartments for the different pieces of food.
Bento boxes from the Japanese takeaway shop in Hataitai have become the regular takeaway option for hundreds of local customers since the owners launched in December.
The Kaburaki couple who started the Japanese Kitchen on Waitoa Road before Xmas 2009, ran a successful Japanese restaurant in Invercargill, but chose to move up to this spot in Wellington so they could enjoy more interaction with their customers. They love interacting with the locals Wellingtonians, saying “People are so friendly. We like to meet people, have a conversation and share their experience.” Some customers just get off the bus in Hataitai and get Bento boxes on their way home.
Top tip: The most popular Bento includes chicken.

There is something on the menu for everyone, and nothings beats eating Japanese kitchen overlooking the Wellington harbour from Mt. Vic so go on….make a healthy take out decision, your heart will love you for it!!!
