We have been to this restaurant a couple of times now, the last occasion was just last night. We thought the restaurant wasn’t bad before the recent change of ownership, and thought we would try it again.

The food is better than it was, and still very reasonably priced! A dinner for two including drinks came to just over $50 for very authentic Japanese food, this coming from someone who has lived in Japan. The service was great, the food was great, and it was quite a shame to see the restaurant so empty on a Saturday night, it seems the previous owners have tainted Kaede’s reputation a bit.

I highly recommend going, my partner doesn’t eat fish and she still found many things on the menu that she enjoyed. The waterfront setting and newly renovated interior make for a very romantic evening!

My family ate at Kaede restaurant yesterday, using our Grab one voucher. The food was excellent and the service friendly – and we had no issues at all with using our voucher.

We tried the tempura prawn, Japanese seafood pancake, the vegetarian mixed platter and rice. All were very nice and perfectly cooked.

Agree with David C’s review. We had a hard time using our vouchers too. If they are going to treat you differently/make it harder for you if you use the voucher, then my advice to them is to not bother selling vouchers. I think their plan to increase their profile with the vouchers has backfired anyway given all the bad reviews.

Would not recommend to anyone.

Chinese owned Japanese restaurant. Totally agree with the comments below-BAD SERVICE. The wait staff are non-Japanese and definitely not trained to serve customers. Very disorganised organization. However, the fried crab is rather nice here.

I bought the deal from GrabOne $30 voucher cost $15. This is my story…

We four people (my parents, my 2 year old baby and myself) went to Kaede on Friday last week. When we arrived about 6.15pm, the restaurant was only having 3 tables’ customers in there. I asked if they have table for us and also mentioned I have two Grabone vouchers. They told me only one voucher per table allowed. Well I not happy because I have small kid with me but we were still requested to sit in two different tables for to use two vouchers. So we picked two tables which were close together. There was another staff come to us and request us to choose those two tables near the door entrance. It was windy day that day, again I was not happy because I don’t want my baby get sick to sit near the door entrance. But anyway we sit down. one minute later the chief come to us and told us we can’t sit these two tables, you can sit the two sits table only, there is another two sits table at the other side which is far away between them. This guy was pretty rude. He talked straight to us. I was expecting he at least say excuse me before starting request us to change table. He just said loud to us and told us if you not change the table you can only use one voucher.

We have to sit separately even we are unhappy because we have already paid for the vouchers! The whole night my baby just walked between the two tables…what a job for him!

While I was having my dinner, I noticed that other two customers can sit on a four sits table and also served with hot towels! Why are so different? Are we just not the same? If they told me we will treat badly if use voucher I wouldn’t buy! I just want to enjoy my dinner, how hard is that?! I asked the staff for water three times and took nearly half hour for bring the water to us.

Looks, I just feel sick when I see this restaurant’s name again! I have one more voucher hasn’t been used. Better to gift someone I hate huh?

I really enjoyed a date night here – found it just by a chance walk along the waterfront.

The sake was excellent, as was our mains – the only disappointment was the crab roll as I wasn’t expecting it to be in batter.

There was a large screen which had a japanese cooking show playing at the time – I think it ruined the ambience a little bit! Otherwise we had a really good meal – also noticed the generous portions, which is a first for some of the Japanese I have had!

very dissapointing we ordered a selection of dishes to share amongst the 3 of us.the wait staff were totally uninformative and couldnt really converse with us. We ordered amongst other dishes a vegetable dish that turned out to be grated cabbage and carrot and was repeated with the only main we ordered. we have enjoyed much better japanese elsewhere the restaurant was almost empty yet we had no attention despite wondering what dessert was to offer the music playing was mtv modern no japanese ambience at all the temupara batter was thicker than it should have been and the veges underneath overcooked.think again before patronising

Found this place out of the blue while wandering around looking for lunch and was extremely happy with the find.

Menu was diverse without being ridiculously huge, prices were good and food was great. Will definitely be back to explore it further, so good to finally have something decent and well priced in the Herd St spot.
