We live in Akl, so whenever we can, we go to Killer Prawn for a meal. Very disappointed this time and probably won’t go back. When I eat out I live for the dessert but this time it was simply “Awful”. I had the Chocolate meringue, they were way too big, hard and thick on the outside and empty in the middle. I have to stab them as hard as I could with my fork several time to cracked them, only to be disappointed with the “nothing” inside. Meringue should be ever so slightly crispy outside, chewy in the middle and easy to crack and light. These looked like faded cow patties. They were filled with pistachio mascarpone, the mascarpone was fine but it had way too many whole pistachio’s in it. Personally I think they should have been slightly ground, crushed or roughly chopped, then mixed with the mascarpone but again, not so many. The orange syrup that it came was was very nice. You get the picture – BIG let down!!!

Unbeliveable!! Where to start with the review??? The food was as equal as the awesome service.With switched on staff, who not only serve you but somehow “instantly know you”..Reading people like people reading menus!!My glass was never empty!!It seems my meal was speacial..it was..they cooked it for ME!!-my way..they had it down to the exact liking for me, only after walking in then orderering 40 minutes later!!These people “know” you!They feed you , but best of all..they look after you!

I have recently dined at this restaurant (in the New Year) with my partner and daughter. We are not from the Whangarei area and Killer Prawns was recommended to us. What a joke to say the least.
The waiting staff were absolutely rude especially a young lass who served us throughout the horrendous ordeal. I am pregnant so naturally aware of how i like my food prepared. I ordered the scotch fillet steak and asked for it to be cooked “well done”, the waitress gave me a filthy look and replied with “you do realize it will take 40 minutes then”. I didn’t realize she was actually going out to catch the cow. Meals kept stacking up on the counter, and there were not enough wait staff for the restaurant. It seemed to be very unorganized. To get a drink the waitress had to be approached. When we finally got our meals – yes 45 mins later, my steak was still dripping with blood. The way we were treated was absolutely disgusting and i felt like i was a hindrance rather than a customer. We will never eat here again and i will tell anyone and everyone about this restaurant. For a scotch fillet steak still mooing on mashed potatoes with broccoli at the cost of $36 i could have provided a better meal at home – that was cooked to my liking. A word of advice to the Owner – and waiting staff – Remember who pay your wages!

Attended a Christmas end of year dinner the other night, despite being a large crowd the food was fantastic well presented and hot. The waitresses were also on the ball, dirty plates cleared away promptly and drinks replenished quickly. Well done

We recently had our end of year dinner upstairs in the Garden Bar. We had a set menu for 40 people. Steph and Kim efficiently arranged the dinner details and wine list and even made a special menu that was in line with our business. All our team enjoyed the food, wait people and bar service and atmosphere. Well done KP.

I’ve come here several times over the years… I was even fooled by the fact that they changed management once, but somethings never change.
For the portion sizes, the prices are ridiculous. The staff are rude and don’t know how to make drinks.

For contrast, KP is on my list of “musts” when in Whangarei. The food has never disappointed, the prices are good and the service quite acceptable. If you like Chilli Mussels, KP is for you. Their steaks are not the greatest, but not the worst, either.
