Booked last Sunday night (5th August 12) with some friends as it was the only place open, and to be honest we weren’t expecting much….. the decor lived up to our expectations, tired and a little run down, with an empty feel, but… it was a Sunday, and the restaurant, and hotel, have been through some tough times.
We ordered 5 mains to share between the four of us and there was a rather lengthy wait, but the food, when it finally came, was worth it!
We had the duck, fish of the day (hapuka), pork belly, scallops, spinach gnocchi and a side of fries
The fish of the day, duck and the pork belly, in particular were delicious, and the scallops were beautifully cooked (though the sauce was not to my taste) and were gobbled up by others :)
Only negative comment was the spinach gnochhi was very dry and in desperate need of sauce :( – so THAT was the ONLY plate with food left on it when it returned to the kitchen!
- the staff were friendly, service was good and on finding out there was only ONE very young chef in the kitchen, we were further impressed
Keep it up – times are tough and customers are scarce, but you and your food were great
Not often up there, but the friends we were with are locals and they will be back (as will I :) )
- So go on all you locals everywhere, when you find a little jem like this one, you need to go and support it :) , cos if you don’t, they WILL disappear :(

We were expecting nice things from a restaurant and bar in a hotel.

Again – another disappointing lunch in Tutukaka!
Staff behind the bar seriously need some training!
The toilets desperately needed a good clean! (If i’d been in there before we ordered the food then I wouldn’t have ordered any food!)
It wasn’t even busy so I can find no reason for excuses!

The most unappetising squid ever! (Seagulls enjoyed it though :-) )

We went for the Monday $15 pub menu…there was a small but varied menu, which could offer something for almost everyone…plus a glass of house wine or beer.

We were very pleasantly surprised the wine glass was filled and the meals were generous, we even had a personal visit from the hostess which made us feel very special.

Thanks guys we will be back again and recommend to all.

Could be anywhere really, pretty typical menu offering pretty typical food. Not amazing, never bad so can’t really go wrong if you’re looking for a safe bet.

Edit: Went back again recently and had the eye fillet, really enjoyed it. Had the kids with me and they were satisfied with the food. The staff went out their way to give the kids activity sheets with pens/pencils too. Up-vote from 3 to 4 for the effort put in.
