Local Miramar resident Jacob Brown (ex Boulcott Bistro and Tabou in Sydney) is the chef and co-owner of local eatery The Larder. The vision of The Larder is to service the community with fine, honest food in a relaxed neighbourhood surrounding. We aim to provide warm and friendly service that is at the same time both professional and knowledgeable.
At The Larder we work passionately to establish and maintain close personal relationships with our growers and suppliers. We endeavour to source food locally and directly from the farmer. We believe that as well as supporting small local business, it also results in produce that has wonderful flavour and and integrity. Our menu therefore is produce-driven and directly reflective of the seasons.
We also believe strongly in the philosophy of ‘nose to tail eating’, where all the parts of the animal are utilised and honoured.
As residents of Miramar, we are excited about giving back to our community, our neighbours, and our friends.

Our first impression was fantastic I have never been greeted at a restaurant like the lovely welcome we received at The Larder.
The ambience was great with a lovely fire on a chilly Wellington evening.
The food is superb and you can tell the love and passion for cooking that has gone into the food and presentation. The accompanying wine was also a perfect match for the food.
We will definitely go back.

The food is very good. We loved everything we had. You can see and taste the care that goes into this food. Outstanding.
We’ll return. The coffee was great, the service was great and the place feels great. We felt welcome. It’s such a pleasure eating here.

Jacob’s head to tail policy includes some animal parts I would try nowhere else but in his expert hands. We also love his and Sarah’s commitment to local farmers, and the photographs included tastefully on the walls.

It was perfect.
Warm, relaxed environment with lovely staff.
We were given excellent advice for the wine to compliment our food, as well as a wee cup of luke warm soup (I’m guessing that was on purpose – still yum anyway…) and bread to start. Myself and one other ordered the duck confit, which was superb, while number three chose the beef wagyu – she mentioned that it was the best steak she’s ever had. Broccoli and roasted pumpkin on the side to share.
Dessert was the Spanish creme brulee all round. Delicious.
Will definitely be back!

Both coffee lovers we ordered flat whites which were strong enough to meet our high standards. I ordered Crepes with yoghurt, rhubarb and citrus poached pears, my friend a Croque Monsieur. Both were reasonably priced and well presented but not large portions.
All in all very nice and a lovely local cafe for those in Miramar, but perhaps not worth the trip we made across the city from Karori to try.
