The husband and I ventured into Little India on Anzac Ave (Auckland City) on the opening night of The Wall at Vector Arena. We came equipped with a tight timeframe (had an hour before we had to be at Vector), big appetites, and low expectations based on Indian restaurants we have been to in the past. We left Little India more than pleasantly surprised. Selected the Mahuraja Banquet for 2 ($35 each) which included a generous selection of entrees and curry mains, and washed these down with 2 Kingfisher beers each. The banquet was excellent value both in quantity and quality. I frequently commented to my husband throughout the meal that this was the best Indian meal I had ever had (yes, this sounds corny, but I am serious!). Spiciness level we asked for was Medium which was spot on if you don’t want the hot factor to compromise the flavor. Curry mains were the old faves Butter Chicken and Lamb Vindaloo, and a very good vege dish that actually outdid the meat options. Came with truly good naan and loads of rice. Service was pleasant and efficient without being intrusive, and waiter and kitchen did their utmost to meet our timeframes. We’re in St. Heliers, but will pass the others on Tamaki Drive and return here every time for our Indian dining. What more can I say? Excellent.
