The Riccarton Lone Star opened in October 2007, located in the historic Bush Inn Hotel, Riccarton Road, Christchurch. A Heritage Building, “The Bush” is protected by the Historic Places Trust, and is instantly recognizable- the façade has changed little since it was established in 1865, when it doubled as a hotel and horse training stables.
The Lone Star Riccarton has been something of an overnight sensation- wildly popular with the people of Christchurch.

The interior of the famous old building has been lovingly and extensively refurbished, a feature being the “Johnny Cash Bar”, which as the name suggests, is themed in tribute to the “Man in Black”.

To quote co-founding partner Tim Whelan’s statement in our menu:
“Have fun partaking of all things that have made us famous over the years. Great food, service, music and atmosphere. Twenty years in this business is a long time and none of it would be possible without you and all our guests. We’ve loved every minute of it, sometimes we think it is like being the host of a never ending party at our place”.
Lone Star Riccarton is 2 years old this week and we invite you to join the party and take home some of that staunch Lone Star cowboy spirit with you.

Absolutely love this restaurant! The atmosphere is great, the Johnny Cash Stash and the Dixie Chicken was both delicious and filling! The salad and chips on the side was great and a reasonable price too!

Went here recently for a work do and was rather disapointed and felt it wasnt up to the usual lone star standard. Maybe it was due to the hectic xmas season.

To many people were crammed on a table. The entrees were disapointing, i shared the garlic prawns that were overly covered in garlic and a lot of it was raw. Tasted the calamari that was to heavily seasoned.

As a main i had the cajun chicken, the chicken was great but the potatoes were raw inside.

Seated beside the kitchen, and heard a ridiculous amount of smashed plates.

I will be back. Next time ill get the ribs, you cant go wrong with them.

Would eat here again, the Dixie chips are brilliant, whoever thought of this… kudos to you! The Lone Star loaf is yummy too, crispy crusted bread and soft inside. Hubby had the ribs and enjoyed them. The coleslaw was a bit weird but I ate it all the same. Overall, a brilliant night, only a 15 minute wait for a table too.

I didn’t have a problem with the 1 1/2 hour wait, its always nice to unwind and have a lazy drink at the bar. However, the problems started after we had placed our orders and the waitress came back two minutes later and asked us: ” have you ordered yet ?” It went downhill from there. Entree’s were brought out after mains and some of our meals were cold owing to the waitress spending time flirting in our tables line of sight with chef whilst holding said dishes. The food was ok, but even that was ruined by the waitress returning to the table at intervals as small as every two minutes to ask if we had finished yet. The finial straw was the aforementioned waitress commenting to one of our party: “jeeze you don’t have to be fat and eat everything”. Manager (whom had observed this) ducked us on way out. Comically bad staff and decidedly average but pricey food. I will not be going back and would advise all to stay away.

Went here while in Chch on business – must have picked a bad night because I had a hour long wait for a table. Waitresses were helpful and food was of normal lone star standard. Always a asfe bet – but watch your eyes .. make sure they match your stomach – full meals are large. Would go back .. but would book.
